  2. Thanks for posting from Texas, Mickey!  And I love the Kundera quote.

I hope things are going well in Dubyaland, especially for your Mum.

  3. An interesting article on the “burden of memory”:

I recently heard a quote on the radio to the effect that people are supposed to be politically motivated because they want to create a better world for their grandchildren, but in fact, quite a few are motivated by the urge to avenge the wrongs visited upon their ancestors and by their fixation upon those historic traumas…

  4. Hello Expendables. I’ll be back in NYC tomorrow night and will try to get back to posting by Sunday. Thanks for the comments and links.

As for my Mom, she was supposed to have some tests but it didn’t happen because she came down with some stress-induced shingles. It’s been a loooong year.

  6. Mickey, I am sorry to hear that your Mom’s tests had to be postponed. That means that the stress of “not knowing” will continue. I am sorry. I think I have an idea of what you all are going through.

  9. I’m back in chilly Astoria. Thanks for all the good wishes. We’re hoping my mom can have her test within 2-3 weeks.

I’ll be back with a new post by Sunday. What’s new on Expendable Mountain?

  10. This is going on in Krakow. At least that’s what I’m doing. Seems a lot of others are wandering about, in debt, salivating over new teevees, linguistically regressing to the stone age, warmly embracing the capitalism that is crushing them, and drinking their asses off. At least its not just the Polish. Yesterday, on the main square, I saw a group of 20 or so right English blokes, mid 30’s-40’s, sing some godawful patriotic song and down their full pints, in unison, in a few seconds. Damn budget airlines. I wish those guys would go back where they belong to do their drinking and cultural imperialism---to Amsterdam.
