Dubya falls, Ward Churchill speaks, Mickey Z. begs, God roars, plus: CELEBRITY PHOTOS

  1. Mickey...you made my day. I will be printing the Churchill comments and hanging them on every wall in my house. He does have a way with words, doesn’t he. Reminded me of the Malcolm X statement, only even better. How can anyone not be inspired 24/7 after reading something like that. THANKS, Mickey!

Tom Cruise, whose real name I’ve forgotten

Why are cheerleaders female in popular imagination?  They were boys back in the good old days and there are boys among them even yet (though not at NFL games, sadly...I’d even watch football if there were).  And while I’m dreaming, why not have the boys in skimpy little cache-sexe glittery nothings, too?

Mr. Churchill makes an important point.  From the dpeths of oppression and misery, all means of escape look valid.  How can we who benefit from the existing “system”, myself included, sleep at night knowing there are those whose suffering supports our comfort?

    Advice across the millennia:

  3. Mornin’ RMJ, how are you this fine hot summer day?

  4. Hi Mudge...I am freezing up here. People are still wearing coats. Send some of your warmth up here.
I like your Marcus quote. With all of the legal stuff swirling around me these days, here’s a quote from me, “Never participate in your own victimization.” That probably doesn’t make much sense to anyone else but it is something that I have to remind myself every time that I am surrounded by unscrupulous legal types.

  5. You may have 38 degrees from down south with my blessing.  That’d make it 60 here, maybe 80 there?

“Never participate in your own victimization.”

    Engraved.

  6. Hello Expendables.

Mudge: Your early morning cavorting with Ms. RMJ is bound to have the Cat Lady turning green. As for the celeb images, did the hints make it too easy?

RMJ: I love your quote and I had a funny feeling that Ward’s words would light you up.

  7. Mudge is such the player.

The Churchill quote is right on...that is exactly how I feel about everything that needs changing in this country.  His approach has brought a lot of exposure to the causes he is fighting for…

  8. Mudge’ll come back to me. If there’s anyone I can let him have his silly little flings with, it’s Rosemarie. Also, I’m embarrassed enough that so far June is one of my busiest months yet with temp work, and so Writing month’s been stalled. Maybe tonight… agh.

On that note, my friend Chris is in town later this month, and so I’m thinking of having another party. Say, Saturday 6/24? If two weeks isn’t too short notice. Mickey? Any other NYC Expendables, or Expendables-to-be? Or people willing to make a long commute? Details to follow…

  9. Looking at main post now w/limited time here at work-- anyone have a link to what Ward’s talking about? At risk of revealing so much ignorance, is there specific killing of Native American children going on right now that he’s referring to? Also, just saw this, in a similar line of thought, figured he wouldn’t be happy about it:

  10. Good day everyone. I’m liking that Ward quote.

Btw, for those of you living in the tri-state area, you might enjoy an article that I’ve written. Well, maybe not enjoy since the topic is Indian Point.. but sharing with me in frustration and anger.

  11. Here’s a subject for an article, Mick or anyone or myself:

    http://tinyurl.com/qspwf

I am sure you have already written about it, Mick.

11 frickin’ South American dictators have come out of this “school” and it was obviously set up and maintained by the Pentagon and US tax dollars.  How the hell do they get away with this shit?

  12. Nice to see you again, Jeremy. Thanks for sharing your article. Really good stuff. You’ll fit right in around here.  Indian Point is mentioned at the end of this article of mine:
    http://www.counterpunch.org/mickey06202005.html

JOS: I can’t recall at the moment if I have written recently on the School of Assassins, but here’s something on the topic U.S.-sponsored torture:
    http://www.counterpunch.org/mickey06202005.html

Also, check out the image on the NY Daily News site. What a truly civilized people we are: http://www.nydailynews.com

James: I’ll try to comment later about Ward’s words but I think he’s referring to the conditions under which Native Americans live today. As for Hawaiian info, Hanauni (sp?) Kay Trask is a good source.

  13. Oh, it was hard to tell just what he meant… and there’s similar covers on at least the NYPost another I passed by on the street today. Yuck.

Posted by James  on  from still at work 06/09  at  02:40 PM
  14. Yes...civilized.  As long as civilized means a bunch of genocidal, murder-hungry, war-mongers.

Mick, our world is one messed up place and the only question I ever get from those around me is how can you talk about “America” like that...this is the greatest country in the world.  I guess it is...but that doesn’t say much for countries in general.

I am sure this version of Zarqawi was a very bad man...the foreign presence in Iraq may be killing as many Iraqi civilians as the US military (though I doubt it).  But to celebrate death like that is sick...how many innocents were blown to bits in the video our government showed the world after his death?  The whoel thing says a lot about us...and none of it is good.

  15. Whenever someone tells me America is the best country, I wonder what standard they are using.

Also, as you say, it’s not exactly a compliment to call any country the “best.” Imagine a room in which you find Charles Manson, O.J. Simpson, and Dick Cheney. To call O.J. the best human in that room is hardly a compliment.

  16. James...Just a couple of months ago the Legislature of the State of Vermont finally recognized the Abenaki.  “...Just to make sure, though, the state legislation excludes recognition as grounds for any land claims. It limits the benefits to applications for grants and to the labeling of Abenaki craftsmen as Native artists under federal legislation. A number of Abenaki were making a living pursuing traditional crafts but were unable to market their products as Native-made without having at least state recognition....” They are now “allowed” to put their name on their crafts.
I believe that many die early because of poverty and lack of access to health care.

Jeremy, nice article about Indian Point. Same issues up here with Vermont Yankee.

JOS...The School of the Assassins is a hot topic that has been kept out of the media. SOA is proof of US terrorist activities. One of the best speakers I ever heard was, a few years ago when I heard the Catholic priest (whose name escapes me at the moment) who was the founder of the movement to close the SOA. I am usually pretty tough but his talk reduced me to tears....the sobbing kind of tears. I was embarrassed and will never forget it.

James...If I ever get Mudge to come up here, no one else will ever stand a chance with him again.

  17. How I love your site, Mickey - the graphics, the links, the writing.  Simply fabulous!

And ‘hi’ to Rosemary, Mudge, JOS, James and Rosemarie.  Here’s hoping you all have a great weekend ahead of you.

  18. Oh thanks, that does clear that up some, I wasn’t sure how much exaggeration he was prone to… I can appreciate your assistance even if you are a direct competitor/rival!

I was just outside, saw the Post cover. Its worse than the Daily News one. Not even going to give the link to it here.

Posted by James  on  from still at work 06/09  at  03:50 PM
  19. Hi Helga.

James: I wouldn’t say Churchill is prone to exaggeration. Hyperbole, perhaps.

Heading out now. See everyone later.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 06/09  at  04:40 PM
  20. Hi Helga…
James, I’m not so sure about Mickey’s view on this. Churchill never would use hyperbole. He is such a nice, gentle, even tempered sort (well maybe sometimes when he is not having a melt down) that he doesn’t even tell the full impact of the atrocities. You have to look at the Fisk photos and photos from other sources to see the reality of the situation.
My captcha word is “love”. What do you think about that, Mudge?

Posted by RMJ  on  from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 06/09  at  06:32 PM
  21. his name is father roy bourgeois

  22. “Love” is one of your salient qualities, RMJ, much as are stubbornness and talent.  Quite the orange you are, my dear friend, and the juice can never grow stale or cloying.

And lest my beloved CatLady feel shrifted, his best and most endearing qualities are kindness and incandescence...there’s a lad who can and does light up a room just by being in it.

Hi JOS!  Jeremy, how’s Taiwan these days?

Helga!  Saluti amica mia!  You too, Mr. Conner!

    MZ, well, yeah you know.

I had a day of epic badness.  I am only glad it’s over at last.

    xoxo and he “walked”
