Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 06/23 at 07:13 AMOh no no no, RMJ, it was blissfully cool and serene, and with the a/c down as low as it can go plus three fans plus a window-unit a/c blowing directly upon my unclad body, I was able to sleep from 10pm to 6am...two hours longer than normal for me. I am invincibly cheerful just now.

The Ghandi quote I find a little mystifying in ways - surely to behave peacefully (or pretend to yourself you are peaceful) when you have violence inside you is a good thing, right? He’s one of those major figures I know practically nothing about.
BTW, many thanks for the mention in today’s post and the big ups from Mudge & RMJ - cheers folks!
The Thai bathroom thing is superb. Incidentally, a while ago there was a link to that great church signs generator. Anyone have any choice suggestions? I’m afraid all mine were pretty crude so I kept them quiet (he said sniggering).

Attention everyone, the residents of Chicago and I just narrowly missed a horrible terrorist attack. The Sears tower was nearly taken down!
Oh wait...no, these guys were living in some warehouse in Miami. An undercover policeman came to them and said he was Al Qaeda. He then asked if they wanted weapons and money to commit terrorist attacks. They said yes. Headlines today...Sears Tower targeted! Terrorist Attacks as deadly or deadlier than 9/11! We were saved!

In Albany, NY the government used entrapment to “catch” a couple of Muslim men who, it appears, were just living quiet normal lives prior to the “entrapment”. Now they and their families, including young children, are in the clutches of the government. The most disturbing part of this story is that there has been no public support for these people. The problem is us. The government could not use “entrapment” if there was enough opposition to it.

This is usual US government policy, enhanced recently in an obvious campaign to help criminal politicians in the run up to November elections. Most likely we will see some major deadly act as election time draws near...and US citizens will eat it up and ask for more.

Reading that Chomsky quote highlighted, for me, the reality that we so readily relinquish the option of force to those in power. They are “supposed” to use violence (or the threat thereof) to settle their problems. We can’t even talk about it without fearing repercussions (i.e. violence or the threat thereof).

Those who would do violence (or cause others to do it) for profit and personal gain have so terrorized the rest of us that we are afaid to make use of the very real power that we have to prevent all their violence. We fear it would corrupt us. I hear this over and over.
Perhaps the use of force---non-violent or otherwise---becomes easier to contemplate when one begins to think in terms of self defense. However I know from personal experience that I myself cannot be driven to violence in self defense, but only in defense of someone else.
Good stuff these days Mickey---I’m far too preoccupied with something else at the moment to do any writing of my own but I’m lurking and reading. Keep it up.
