Rumsfeld's America, our denial

  1. “Count no day lost in which you waited your turn, took only your share and sought advantage over no one.” -Robert Brault

Welcome home, MZ, and CatLady needs to learn some patience...that little hissy at 5:58 this morning, now really dear.

Last day in the old place, and packing the computer up today.  See y’all soon!

  4. Welcome home, Mickey. As you can see, we all behaved during your absence. Thanks for the Churchill quote.

For a while now, I have been exchanging e-mails with a Marine who responded to my latest Churchill article. The Marine says I am all wrong. He says that my world view is deluded and that the USA does NO wrong and has never violated any laws or treaties. Here is part of the last e-mail from him.
“...You cite the Lancet. Again, just because civilians are killed does not mean a war crime has been committed. This is not controversial. It is basic logic.

In the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the US killed about 200,000 Japanese. The atomic bombings averted a ground assault of Honshu and the other islands of mainland Japan, which would have resulted in the killing of several hundred thousand if not a million more Japanese. This estimate is conservative and is based on the vast numbers of Japanese killed in the assaults of Okinawa and other islands.

As regards Fallujah, I was in Fallujah. Before the US Marine assault of Fallujah, the civilian residents were evacuated...”

I believe that this Marine is intelligent and articulate. This gets back to one of Mickey’s recent questions,"Does reading a book change anything?” Opening a book will never change a closed mind.  The brain-washing in the USA is so pervasive that real information just cannot get through the barrier.

  5. Forgot to say GOOD MORNING to James and Mudge. Sorry, I get all discombobulated every time I see a new Churchill quote. You have to admit it. He really does have a way with words.

  6. Morning all...welcome back, Mick.

Funny, seems like we’re all in the midst of email exchanges.  I am currently battling several drunk, rich, older white men right now on Iraq and the “War on Terrorism” in general.  I’ve witnessed some concessions to some of my arguments, but in the end, rich, old (drunk), white men never change.

  8. Hello JOS and RMJ.

RMJ: I guess one thing we all have in common in the need to create justification and rationalizations for our behavior.

  11. I’m more than a few days late here, but as for Jerry dumbell citing Ecclesiastes...who decides what “Time” it is???  Religion being used as an excuse for Man’s activities, rather than an explanation for them is a sure sign of an unjustifiable act.

“color” hrumpf! “coloUr” is more like it! ;)
