I support the "war on terror"
Afternoon Mickey et al. I’ve been lurking, haven’t had much to say unfortunately.
Getting through Endgame on the train, I’m quite pleased with the fact I’m no longer getting irritated by Jensen’s constantly banging on about salmon. I think I may have got the point...one of them anyway.Posted by Mew on from horriby humid London 07/05 at 08:02 AMCould London possibly be any more humid than NYC is today? Damn it, I have a job from noon til 6 or so today. Then another one from ten pm til 6 a.m. Capitalism is awesome!
Getting lonely w/o Mudge…
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 07/05 at 08:10 AMHello Expendables....
Speaking of terrorism—a terrorist is, according to this, the fifth “most feared but least likely cause of death.”
Go figure....
Posted by Michael Hawkins on from Boulder, CO 07/05 at 08:23 AMHi everyone!
That Huey quote reminds me of what Malcom X stated in his biography, “Concerning nonviolence, it is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself when he is the constant victim of brutal attacks”
peace,
Posted by Luna_C on from The Delta 07/05 at 09:06 AMHello Expendables and a hearty “long time no see” to Hawk and Luna. By odd coincidence, I just used that same Malcolm X quote in an upcoming article. Here’s something even more extreme from Malcolm: “Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery.”
Mew; Looking forward to your thoughts upon finishing Endgame.

I would add to what Malcolm and Huey say about self-defence...It might be acceptable to refrain from defending one’s self but it is never morally acceptable to stand by while others are the victims of aggression. Complacency equals complicity.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 07/05 at 05:06 PMI was wondering when you’d join us, RMJ.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/05 at 05:08 PMHere is an interesting article on guns from the Rense site…

I like the moral of the last paragraph…
Posted by Luna_C on from Workys 07/05 at 05:23 PMThanks for noticing that I was not here, Mickey. I have been working hard doing a chore that you probably don’t have to do...cleaning the basement...an impossible job because when I moved here 21 years ago I was working very long hours and NEVER did get to unpack all of the boxes that were stored there. I now have several carloads ready for the homeless shelter. It has taken me 3 days. What a job!!! Makes me think about Mudge and his move. I hope he’s OK.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 07/05 at 05:24 PMHey Luna, thanks for the link. Any chance you’d be into making another GIF for my blog?
RMJ: I may not have a basement but I have a great fire escape.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/05 at 05:47 PMAre you kidding?!?! I’m almost offended you feel the need to ask. hehe ;)
Send me over a note of what you want and I’ll bang it out for you.
Peace,
Posted by Luna_C on from workies 07/05 at 06:05 PMCool, Luna...I’ll have some images to you by tomorrow.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/05 at 06:11 PMGreat article Mickey!! This paragraph really stands out:
It’s noteworthy that so many Americans reflexively defend their (sic) country’s rampant illegalities because they perceive these actions as falling under the seductive justification of “defending our way of life.” But, if our way of life is so sacred, so ideal, so worthy of being defended by any means necessary...why are millions of us reeling from “intense, overpowering fear”? If the U.S. represents a superior form of society, why do we need so many homeless shelters, alcohol and drug rehab centers, rape crisis hotlines, battered women’s shelters, prisons, law enforcement agents, and soldiers? Why does a sexual assault occur every two and a half minutes? If the United States of America is the world’s shining light, why are its citizens compelled to organize movements to protect human, environmental, and animal rights? Why can’t we drink the water or breathe the air without risking our health? Why do we experience “intense, overpowering fear” about being made ill by corporate-produced toxins and having no health insurance to deal with such an illness? If America is the zenith of human social order, why does its very name evoke “an overwhelming feeling of fear and anxiety” for people both here and abroad? Why does our vaunted “way of life” provoke terror both as a tactic and an emotion?
and maybe this article can explain a few things: http://tinyurl.com/q5uwc
Posted by TM on from 07/05 at 06:21 PMThanks, TM. Hey, it only took 14 comments before someone actually mentioned my article. Oh well…
Thanks for the link, too. That confirmation bias is a killer.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/05 at 06:27 PMI’m sorry, Mickey. I intended to comment on the great article this morning but then was distracted. I like the way that you hit on so many important points...even the water quality. I have to buy all of my drinking and cooking water at the store and carry it in. What a major pain that is! And yes, a fire escape is a lot better than a basement...and a lot more romantic too. Your lady can stand on the fire escape and you can serenade her from below. In the movies you never see people being serenaded in the basement.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 07/05 at 07:11 PMI’m only teasing, RMJ. Most of the the time, the comments here go off in a different—and more interesting—direction than my original post.
As for basements in the movies, in the original Night of the Living Dead, the basement turned out to be the best place to survive. So, that’s always a plus.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/05 at 07:23 PMEvening all,
I’ve been so remiss (still, again...?) but a hearty hello to you all.
Mickey, I hope the rest and relaxation did you good - glad you’re back.
RMJ, don’t remind me of basement boxes...it hasn’t been 21 years yet, but I too have boxes there who’s contents remain a mystery since they were packed up and brought here...I don’t envy you the task but it is nice that some of the contents are at least useful enough to be sent to someone who’ll appreciate them. I fear mine hold all sorts of photos and the like.
Mudge’s move - I feel terribly that I was all in a flutter and haven’t emailed him to wish him well during all the hubub that a move entails! Whammies at you while you’re packing and unpacking!
CatLady - I always find you talking of vegan delicacies that make me wish I could go into the fridge and find your leftovers.
I like this: “Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery.”
I was saying a couple of days ago to Youngfox that idiots and evil-doers of the world would all be sorry if I had super human strength and the powers of kung-fu...(I’d need a suitable super hero outfit, of course) as I’d end up running amok and kicking ass all over the place. (so I was feeling a little bitter and rancourous having just observed a garbage bag full of what should’ve been in the recycling box beside it, and had experienced other idiot overload during the day)It’s late and I’m ill informed (not having read all the links) and a little sleepy.
Wishing you all well and hope to type to you all again soon - I’ll at least be doing some more lurking while I try to think of something more intelligent to contribute than my sorry apologies and well-meaning wishes.
Buenas Noches & schlaf gut!
