Don't fry for me, Argentina
hello
will read the article later and comment later but i just wanted to ask if any of you came across this link before…
i think i am in heaven....
Posted by michael on from exile 07/06 at 07:08 AMWell well, what more can possibly be said about this other than that it portrays Argentinians as pitifully small minded, ill informed and unimaginative?
Are cows indigenous to Argentina? I really don’t know, but my guess is no. The bigger challenge is likely that even if the mindset were different or simply more flexible, the landscape has surely been ravaged to accomodate growing numbers of grazing cattle with indigenous veg crops as a likely casualty.I frankly believe that the carnivorous habit is encouraged not only because of the industry, but because it is counter productive to the proper nourishment of the poor...LENTILS for dog’s sake...as affordable as any other carb staple and would serve to keep far greater numbers well fed.
Thanks for the article, Mickey.
Posted by Amelopsis on from Canada 07/06 at 07:13 AMHi Michael,
Simultyping...I think I’ve come across that once a long time ago...thanks for reminding me. It looks to be quite a treasure trove

When possible many bloggers there are taking advantage of the few hours of electricity to recharge laptops and continue to provide us with an account of their experiences.
OT, but ever relevant as Israeli war crimes continue while the rest of the world’s govt’s fiddle.
“yes”Posted by Amelopsis on from Canada 07/06 at 08:26 AMHey all.
God forbid anyone should reduce consumption of anything.
Possibly another link people have already come across.Posted by Mew on from horriby humid London 07/06 at 08:56 AMHello all...nice to see Amelopsis here.
Wow, just looking through the top 100 books at the site you pointed out has me hooked, Michael.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 07/06 at 09:12 AMHello Expendables from a suddenly un-humid Astoria. Thanks for all the links, etc...but giving away books for free? It’s a struggling author’s nightmare.
Empress: Happy to have you here two days in a row. I’m hoping this is a developing trend.
Captcha sez: “Blue” (which makes me think of Joni)
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/06 at 09:36 AMMZ you must be getting some of the same fresh air I’ve been able to enjoy for the last day and 1/2...which is due to turn back to horribly smoggy humidity in time for the weekend.
It’s really quite sick that it feels strange when the air seems not have texture and weight to it, isn’t it?
It reminds me of childhood and how the climate USED to be once upon a time (but I never walked barefoot through the snow 6 miles to school!)
blue...joni...along my route to work they’re tearing down trees and expanding the highway....they call it progress, I’m told
Posted by Amelopsis on from Canada 07/06 at 01:40 PMmarbled steak? I’m going to vomit. I just picture globs of gelatinous fat. bon apetit!!!

Project Gutenberg only give away the books for free, if the Copyright has been suspended in the U.S. That’s what it says on their website.
Posted by TM on from 07/06 at 01:58 PMGreetings, all. Look at it this way MZ. When inflation gets bad enough, they’ll be begging for lentils. Or anything. Vegetables might be the only option. That’ll teach ‘em.
Not the Washington Post, the folks in Argentina. The Post will never learn.Posted by Cart on from near Warshington DC 07/06 at 03:41 PMHello Empress, TM, and Cart. It’s sunny and cool and somewhat late-May-like now in Astoria. Very welcome indeed.
All this talk about lentils has me hungry. It also has me wondering if Barbra started her own legume service if it wouldn’t be named Yentl’s Lentils.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/06 at 03:55 PMMickey, consider the choir preached to here. Great to hear from the Empress, and thanks for the flattering words about my refigerator. I pride myself on my cooking, but not my housekeeping; there’s still leftovers in here from the party, but at this point, I don’t recommend that you try any of them.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 07/06 at 04:29 PMComrades,
Whenever anyone asks me if I am a vegan when they see me eat only vegan meals, I wince at the question. I think I am about to be lectured along the lines of the WashPost article.
I just think: I don’t bother them about being carnivorves. Why do they worry about me being a vegan?
At other times, people surprise me by saying it is a good idea about being a vegan, amd they ask me about it.
One guy asked me today. He said he was easing into being a vegan. I told him to go cold.
