Blackouts and Urban Cavemen

Posted by Mickey Z on 07/22 at 07:18 AM
  1. Good morning all and hoping for power to the people today.
Mickey #11 from last night...that’s exactly what I have been saying all along. Those who claim that the Bushes are stupid just don’t get it. And along those same lines, a few days ago I again mentioned that the corporations are making out like bandits on the killing in Lebanon. All week the usa seemed very nervous that the killing would stop. This morning it was announced that the usa will be sending a large shipment of weapons to keep the killing right on track. Just follow the money. usa corporations ALWAYS win, and the people always wind up dead. It’s like a new law of the universe.

  2. I know that it is story-telling day. I promise to get with the program someday...but first I am releasing this here at Mickey’s. It has not yet been published anywhere.

    PRESS RELEASE

At the July meeting of Veterans for Peace, Chapter 88, in Manchester, Vermont it was decided by consensus that the veterans would support the immediate release of all of the 400 + prisoners being held at the US prison at Guantanamo. It was also decided that the prisoners should be paid fair compensation for all time that they were imprisoned. It was further resolved that the prison facility, including all land should be returned to the people of Cuba.

  3. Hello Expendables...and g’morning, RMJ. Imagine if all vets were as open-minded as your group?

Obviously, the power is still on here. We had firemen in the building late last night, checking on wires. Also, Con Edison workers were using a jackhammer at about 5 in the morning. Basically, it’s not exactly normal yet...but hey, it’s not Lebanon or Iraq.

I’m not complaining (well, not too much, I hope).

  4. Mickey, did you talk to any of the people you met during the blackout afterwards? I really don’t think, provided people can eat, most people will struggle to fit into a post-crash-of-civilization world. If we can lose stars and birds and rhinos without skipping a beat, why not dvd players?

There was chaos on the Tube last week, as the electronics on the trains were overheating and blowing out. British infrastruture just can’t cope with extremes of anything, even though our extremes are less than other countries experience. Word from the wise - don’t come to the Olympics in 6 years. It’ll be hell.

I saw a story in the paper too that London bus drivers have to wear full uniform (including long trousers) even though their cabs were getting as hot as 52C. You see it’ll hurt the rep of London Transport if the peasants see a driver in shorts, but not if one passes out and plows into a juggernaut.

  5. Great question, Mew. In general, life returned to “normal” after the 2003 blackout but my wife and I did stay friendly with at least one woman who joined us on our stoop for the dark night. Otherwise, well...you know the deal.

As for now, power is still in and out. The streets are filled the horrendous sound of jackhammers as electric company workers bury new cable. I just took a long walk and encountered plenty of folks able to maintain an upbeat spirit about the whole mess. However, the small businesses are really suffering...and I’m fearful what we’ll learn about the homebound elderly.

  6. Hello all…

My cousin is visiting from college this weekend and a bunch of us sat around until late last night telling stories.  At one point, the topic changed to crank calls.  We each had our own experience to relate, but my cousin’s got the biggest laugh.

There is a lady in Brooklyn named Anita Booger.  One summer in high school my cousin and her friends located her name in the phone directory and called her up.

    “Hello?” said Anita.

    “Hello,” replied my cousin…

    “Is Mike Bugger there?”

    “No,” said Anita.

    “I’m sorry,” said my cousin…

“I must have picked the wrong Booger.”

  7. How did that mispelled Bugger get in there and ruin my joke?

Anyway, for those who’ve ever been on the wrong end of a crank call and are now upset, my cousin and her friends cranked Mrs. Booger several times that summer and every time she answered the same way making it a successful crank each time.  At the end of the summer my cousin called her up and thanked her for being such a good sport and making that summer just a little bit more fun.  Later all…

  8. OK, seriously, I don’t know how much more of this I can take. I spent much time in June working very closely with these images for a video I made. It didn’t get easier as time went on.

Then this week I have been dealing with these images here.

And now Mickey’s link to this.

I don’t really know if I can take much more visual evidence of how horrid my species is. Sick, sick, sick!

  9. JOS: We should have a crank phone call day here. I can remember a few classics, myself.

Keir: Not to add to your current state of mind, but I will post an image tomorrow that is horrific, to say the least.

Where is everyone? Has the power outage spread?

  10. I’m here, Mickey. Just stopping by for a minute. I have some minor flooding going on....nothing I can’t handle, just an annoyance. How’s your power? Living up here with power that goes off, always at the most inconvenient time, has made me appreciate the small things. I never get into a shower or bathtub without being grateful for the hot (or cool) water.

  11. So far, so good, RMJ. Like you, I’m gaining some perspective...feeling appreciation that a light goes on when I hit the switch. Happy that I can communicate here with the Expendables.

(We’ve had plenty of rain, so many are flooded here, too...and plenty are still waiting for power.)

  12. Hello RMJ, JOS, Keir, Mickey, Mew…

MZ, glad your power’s back, RMJ the water’s just stopped falling from the sky here and I hope it’s stopped coming into your house.

I’m feeling quite dispirited today in light of ... well, just pick a war.

From Youngfox’s recent post here’s a link to a video that should make the rounds of every MSM consumer/victim living comfortably (or just peacefully) in North America:

    http://tinyurl.com/ke3yv

It’s an hour long and it’s called “Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land”.

  13. Hello Empress. Thanks for the link. I plan to check it out tomorrow (I hope).  Btw, I share your pick-a-war feeling of dread. Captcha sez: “alone” (as in “you are not...")

  14. The More Photos link is not working… seems the account has been suspended.
Looks like someone doesnt want the world to see the Israeli gifts to Lebanon.

    A very good site.

  15. Thanks, javeria. I’ll have to see if I can find those images somewhere else.

Hope you’ll come back soon and join the discussions.
