Blame it on the comet
this city is crammed with stone carvings of all sorts of gargoyles, dragons and winged scaly things so comet or no comet, somebody here is overly fond of coldblooded creatures.
Posted by owen on from barcelona 08/04 at 05:52 AMGreat posts the last few days man. Yesterdays was awesome!
I hate to turn the topic over to conspiracy topics( again, luna you bastard!) . How many people are familiar with that whole alternative archaeology issue specifically Velikovsky and the descendents of his work?In a teeny tiny little nutshell, Cause I got 9 minute eggs on and need to hit the showers afterwards and Velikovsky is a massive massive topic. Basically he went through the collective legends of the various cultures of antiquity and reworked the understanding of there timelines by studying the global catastrophes that each culture shares collectively. Like the great flood for example and using them as a basis for reworking the timeline of global cultural history. Extrapolating on this he builds a theory that the planet Venus is actually one of the youngest members of our solar system and was a captured comet. It’s Orbit was very hazardous to the Earth until it gradually became stable where it is now. Basically every time it would pass by it would cause massive destruction on our planet giving rise to the periodic tales of destruction we see in our global legends today.
In later books he investigates into how this rise/collapse cycle that originally outside of our control has now given rise to a psychological condition he calls “ collective amnesia” which now lacking an outside destructive force (unless you count global warming) has driven us as a race to create our own biblical style apocalypse.
Interesting stuff. Personally it’s topics like this that give me hope for the future. Violence sucks and I’m hedging my bets that we still might just evolve ourselves out of this whole mess.
Peace and love everyone!!
LCPosted by Luna_C on from The Delta 08/04 at 10:29 AMHello Expendables,
Thanks, Mickey, for the link to my place this morning. I can use all the help (and hope) on what’s written there that I can get.
Luna_C: Speaking of alternative ways to view the concept of Apocalpytic, I’ve always resonated with the work of Rene Guenon. I recently posted on a Guenon interpretation of the Apocalypse that you may find interesting.
Hope everyone’s doing “fine”....

http://tinyurl.com/pkg2uHi Owen, Luna, Mickey, and Hawk. I don’t know much about Venus, conspiracy theories, or the Apocalypse. One of my friends says that the planet will be better off when it rids itself of humans. Sometimes when I see what humans do to each other, I wish that I was a seagull soaring above the ocean, breathing in the salt air and not worrying about how to make the next mortgage payment.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/04 at 10:52 AMHello Expendables. It’s only 88 degrees of so at the moment. Going up to 90-92. Practically winter-like.
I’m so glad Luna has turned up today with his theories...oh, hi Luna. Didn’t see you over there? Just teasing, buddy.
Hello Owen and Hawk.
RMJ: Not even seagulls can escape:
http://tinyurl.com/jumg6Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/04 at 11:15 AMMickey, that is such a sad seagull story, and it happened near where I used to live. Actually seagulls are fairly intelligent. One day on a beach in Maine, my daughter and I watched seagulls as they went to the blankets of swimmers. The seagulls only chose the blankets that were vacant of people. Then the gulls quickly swooped down, did not take the time to separate food from non-food items, and very quickly took what ever they could carry in their bills. Christine and I did the little that we could to spare the people a bad day at the beach BUT, there were a lot of swimmers who were outsmarted by the gulls and missing their lunches, car keys, and wallets that day.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/04 at 11:34 AMI must admit, I sometimes find seagulls annoying at the beach...but no where near as annoying as the guy with the cigarette, the woman on the cell phone, the kids having a sand fight, etc. Regardless, I am always impressed by a seagull’s single-mindedness and cleverness...and they always seem so much bigger than expected up close.
Empress has made a post today that resonates with my “comet” story and Hawk’s post: http://tinyurl.com/hc7dc
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/04 at 11:39 AMI was sitting in a plaza a spring afternoon and saw a seagull eat a pigeon. I´m not inclined to stew in the “people are shit” funk common after twenty minutes of state newscasts, nature can be plenty fascist when it wants.
Posted by owen on from bartcelona 08/04 at 12:15 PMThanks Michael that was an interesting read. I agree with him completely. I would however like to see our species get past this death wish and hopefully not die out entirely.
LOL @ Mickey! Your such a kidder. If I didn’t know better I could almost imagine you feeling a little off balance around subjects your not familiar with. ;) hehe
Now that I’m at work and can take the time to reread what I splashed out over my eggs and coffee. I kinda left that last point disconnected. It’s obvious to me that you can’t trust the “truth” coming from any established source without questioning it for yourself. There’s a lot more going on in this world then we’ve been taught in school and without sounding to “New Ager” I believe we’ve been kept very ignorant about certain realities regarding what’s happening to us as a species right now. There does seem to be a very strong undercurrent of rapid spiritual evolution happening these days. I think to some degree it’s fuelling the Elites apocalyptical war games. A cycle of massive destruction would either kill us all or at least dumb down the race enough to make it easier for the people in power to control. All they want is to maintain there control one way or another.
If we are going through a spiritual biophysical evolution then it’s something we will be seeing during the course of our lifetimes. All the marbles rest on the next 50 years or less. Maybe the revolutions were all looking for isn’t accomplished by violence but simply through an evolutionary step taken by an awakened species.
Peace and love.
LCPosted by Luna_C on from workies 08/04 at 12:30 PMOwen, I just saw a seagull pick a little bird right out of the air and eat it in front of a shocked business plaza last week. Of course it was completely natural...I love it when the wild shows up in the city.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 08/04 at 01:05 PMYeah, when judged by human values, nature can be, at the very least, confusing. I do not pretend to understand. Speaking of which, Luna, I’m not so much “off-balance”...more like overwhelmed. I feel bombarded every day with ideas, facts, and concepts and i sometimes must choose to not pursure some leads (at least for now).
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/04 at 01:09 PMAfternoon every Expendable,
Luna I’m with you about an awakened species being capable of evolving beyond our current constraints. That said, I think it still goes hand in hand with the idea that every disastrous human act is a choice and I believe we should as individuals be made to be aware of this. Hence all the discussion and dithering over ‘actions’ and which ones would be most productive. New Age, Old Age, Age of Knowledge is where I try to be...the more we know, the more empowered we are to make wise choices.
JOS - I’ve never seen a seagull go carnivore on another bird like that, but not long ago I experience the public display of a falcon being harrassed over his lunch ... his lunch being another bird’s young. It’s quite a sight. Those falcons are both terrible and majestic. (There are a lot of them around here so I have to keep an eye out for my cats!)
Posted by Amelopsis on from Canadia 08/04 at 01:24 PMGood one, Mickey! And why so many people still think that ‘homo sapiens’ is a crowning achievement of some God somewhere is beyond me.
Have a good weekend, Owen, Luna_C, Michael Hawking, Rosemarie, Owen, JOS, Amelopsis and - Mickey! Weather forecast for Daylesford, Australia: ‘fine’ with temperatures around 60F.

I was just giving you a hard time Mickey. I know how difficult it is to stay on top of the stuff your interested in let alone the gazillions of other topics that are available out there. Life is certainly a long term study plan. ;)
I’m surprised this seagull hasn’t entered the links yet…

Hope everyone has a long weekend away from work coming up!

LCPosted by Luna_C on from workies 08/04 at 03:12 PMAh yes, Luna, how could I forget that most famous of gulls. I loved that book when I read it a zillion years ago. Thanks.

http://tinyurl.com/m285oPosted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/04 at 04:03 PMYeah, I think the next analysis will say something like, “Iraq: Total Cluster ####.”
Hey, Mick...did you say a three month or three dollar credit from ConEd:

Posted by JOS on from Chicago 08/04 at 06:42 PMThat’s fucked up, JOS. But I did get a check today for my claim of spoiled food.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/04 at 06:53 PMI don’t know about these giant baby seagulls attacking the coastal regions, nor this Jonathan seagull fellow, but I think this one knows all about the comet
Posted by Amelopsis on from CAnadia 08/04 at 07:22 PMHoly shit - I just now had the opportunity to look at the laughing yogi. Mickey you’re hilarious. He actually made me laugh. (you might want to go look at it again yourself after that $3 link from JOS)
Posted by Amelopsis on from CAnadia 08/04 at 07:27 PMThanks, Empress. Sometimes, i sit back and wait for stuff to get noticed. This post not only had a fun comet article, but also a laughing yogi, and a trailer for Black Belt Jones.
As captcha sez, I “expected” all this to be commented on sooner.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/04 at 07:35 PMI sometimes don’t remember to check all those little ‘buried treasures’ later on when it’s possible but I do try. Today was particularly funny. I should check the blackbelt again since I can listen too.
“Issue”? So what, I’ve got plenty.
Posted by Amelopsis on from CAnadia 08/04 at 07:51 PMIssue? I hardly know you…
