Porn and the CIA (Your tax dollars at work)

Posted by Mickey Z on 09/01 at 05:39 AM
  1. Good morning Mickey,

Ah yes, a time when a sex tape wasn’t the equivalent of a blank cheque, I remember.

However I’m not terribly suprised that the plan backfired, there’s a peculiar fundie attitude about such things here in North America that somehow seems not to have the same incarnation in many other parts of the world even where the general population might tend to be more religious....the ever shifting nuances of hypocrisy.

Umm, was that Manuel charging the professor $50 per hour?  I’m a slow right on the short bus with Spanish and that was HIlarious but too fast for me to get it at the first listen.

Seems like it might be a nice morning here, but then the oh so talked about Ernesto is due to rain on us later.
    Happy September!

  2. Hello Empress. It’s getting windy here...Ernesto is looming.

As for the Marxes, that scene is filled with nonsensical double talk. For example, Chico (Emmanual) charges more to practice than to play and if he doesn’t practice, well, Groucho (Capt. Spaulding) couldn’t afford it. Since I don’t understand much Spanish any more (I was once decent with Spanish and Italin but out of practice now), I can’t imagine how this translates but it makes me laugh in any language.

Since this blog has been called “bleak,” “defeatist,” and “dreary” lately, I figured a few laughs were in order.

  3. You’re just telling it the way it is, Mick.  Yes, things are bleak and dreary.  But we are far from defeatists.

I am sure you’ve seen this...I just watched it last night.  If not, you’ll like it as long as you can stomach the few moments of interviews with Bono and Sean Penn:

  4. Love that Buk film, JOS. I saw it at Cinema Village here in NYC a few years back.

  10. 11. Operation GOOD TIMES:
    a. <objective</u>: To disillusion the Cuban population with Castro image by distribution of fake photographic material.

    b. Concept: Prepare a desired photograph, such as an obese Castro with two beauties in any situation desired, ostensibly within a room in the Castro residence, lavishly furnished, and a table brimming over with delectable Cuban food.with an underlying caption (appropriately Cuban) such as “My ration is different.” Make as many print as desired on sterile paper and then distribute over the countryside by air drops or agents. This should put even a Commie dictator in the proper perspective with the underprivilieged masses.

Brig Gen William Craig, “Possible Actions to Provoko, Harass, or Disrupt Cub,” February 2, 1962.

Same time-frame, same methods. One possibly comforting thought - would you really want all those billions going to a competent Agency which actually had a clue how to achieve its objectives?

Hehe, “analysis”. Copying stuff out of a book isn’t analysis, silly!

  11. I’m also not terribly surprised that the plan backfired - lo and behold much of the rest of the planet is not saddled with a sort of lingering Puritanism.

And the Marx Bros clip just goes to show those cats were funny in any language.

  12. Thanks, Mew and James. You know, we have a few regulars named James here. Hmm...we may need a new nickname.

Off-topic: Michele and I just went to P.S. 1 in Long Island City to see a show of John Lurie’s excellent work. Check it out:

  13. “Tanks” for the link Mickey, I like John Lurie’s sensibility.

Michael I have forgotten where’s you’ve gone off to and I think you’re on a second blog aside from tubthumper these days but also don’t know it - refresh my memory?

Mickey one of our local major bookstores had a few publications from dininfo press but none of yours, I gave them a tip that they should carry some.  We’ll see.

Along with the rising wind are some really freaky cloud patterns, the skies should become quite intersting as evening falls and tomorrow approaches.

  14. I had a feeling you might like Lurie, Empress.

Btw, did you hear Newt Gingrich is against attacking Iran? He sez: “I am opposed to a military strike on Iran...” Of course, he goes on to add: “...because I don’t think it accomplishes very much in the long run.” And finally: “I think if this regime (in Iran) is so dangerous that we can’t afford to let them have nuclear weapons, we need a strategy to replace the regime.” Maybe we need another porno flick?

A lttle drizzle starting here. Ernesto nears…

  15. It seems that Newt’s not alone in speaking out against the powers that be.

Watch the movie linked from this page, and/or read the transcript.
While I disagree with his holding up of Winston Churchill as a beacon of righteousness, it still blew me away that this was on the MSM.  Really.

Has a shift in perception “started” to take root among the masses?  I certainly hope so.

  16. Thanks, Empress. The whole “appeasement” thing seems to have observers on both ends of the spectrum confused. Here’s what I say:

  17. Mickey. I had noticed in comments before that there were multiple Jameses, so I’ll provide an alternate handle - basically what I’m known as by my students and around town (Dr. B).

  18. Ah, the mysterious Dr. B. I like it.
