The evolution will be televised (and maybe podcast, too)

  1. Good morning Mickey,

Our species seems to be making a very bold foray toward the evolution of making our own brains obsolete (with the exception of the few who will rule the rest).

I’m glad you posted the link to email action on the lease of the refuge lands.  This has been gradually seeping away since last year’s budget proposal.  Something is better than nothing.

  2. Hello Empress. It seems summer has returned for one day here in NYC. I’m headed out now to soak up the rays. How are things up north?

  3. Mickey Z., I’m convinced that people are simply too ashamed to admit all the lies.  Everyone knows that politicians read and contribute to all types of blogs.  So they are reading the truth everyday and simply choose to ignore it.  I know YOU know this!  So wouldn’t you agree that people are simply too scared to acknowledge the truth - what they read everyday?  Isn’t that actually a very promising situation since people can be taught how not to be scared in order to better witness the truth?  Isn’t that something the masses can be taught if the truth tellers spearhead a counterculture?  At least the counterculture can form a strong identity and claim back the lost soul that the dominant culture advertises.

  4. Mickey today’s the second day in a row of really nice weather (so far).

dw: I think the truth is very scary indeed, although I think you’ve got the right idea in so much as those who do perceive the truth must help others to see it by simply stating their opinions honestly.

  5. dw I think the counterculture’s there and probably accounts for at least two thirds of the world’s population. They (and not “freedom”, “democracy” or even “terror") are what is under attack. The fact that people in a position to prevent all of the horror (that we witness and comment on) are too cowardly to do shit about it is not very encouraging. Everyone knows what’s going on, and--as Derrick Jensen has written more than once--knows what needs to be done. I’ll call the situation promising when something happens.

    Paul Street sez...

"With all due respect for the undeniably pivotal role of corporate-imperial media mendacity and bias, I think Americans are running out of excuses for narcissistic and infantile indifference to the mass murder being carried out with their tax dollars and by their policy makers and allies. It strikes me that photographs, clips, and stories about the criminal carnage inflicted on Arab people and communities by the blood-soaked-butchers who rule the United States and its client state Israel are readily available to any moderately interested American who knows how to search the Internet, read a newspaper, or watch television."

  6. HI Mickey, Amelopsis, Keir, and dw.
I like that Paul Street quote except things are even worse than he describes. We are not running out of excuses, because we are never held responsible and never have to make up excuses. The rest of the world continues to tolerate the slaughter of innocents and we go merrily on our way.
In my view, people in the usa do not know and do not care. People in the rest of the world know, but do not care enough to take action. Kind of reminds me of that old Hallmark card commercial, “Care enough to send the very best”. No one cares enough to do their very best. Our views here are in the very small minority, if they were not we could change things overnight. All we would have to do is sit down. There would be no need for violence on our part. With the small numbers that we have, a much different strategy is required. None of us are willing to take that risk in order to save the lives of the innocent.

  7. Hello again everyone. DW, I don’t think I can improve on the responses above. As Keir sez: I’ll call the situation promising
    when something happens.

  8. “I’ll call the situation promising
    when something happens.”

Maybe there needs to be stark separation between “us” and the mainstream news/entertainment outlets.  The “something happening” should be those who lead discussion on what a human being ACTUALLY IS without giving mention or attention to those sources who defend the “corporate-imperial media.” The bottom line is that there is no effort to collectively articulate what our humanity actually MEANS to this Country in terms of shared peace and prosperity.  And when I say “sources who defend” that means piercing the comfortable rut most of the Country seems to be stuck in.  It’s hard for many to believe that Chris Mathews is just as complicit of ‘narcissistic and infantile indifference’ as is D. Rumsfeld but we know that this is indeed the case.  The fact is that most of the Country is sucked in one way or another.  The media has a “psycho-emotional” fix on our culture so we’re talking about a huge separation between family and friends.  But the proverbial line in the sand is being drawn tighter and tighter everyday anyway.  This is what I mean by a new counterculture.  A new set of voices that can’t be influenced and diffused by the “truth seekers” on television and elsewhere.  It’s true, whoever controls the media, controls the mind.  So it’s pretty much all or nothing at this point.  It turns out that “Separation” has to be the operative word here, in my view.  This of course is a short version of what I’m talking about.

  10. dw....I am interested in your plan. You say “... It’s hard for many to believe that Chris Mathews is just as complicit...” I agree, but I think that an even bigger problem is that it’s hard for them to believe that the dems are as complicit as the repubs and it is even harder for them to believe that capitalists are complicit. Ward Churchill was right!

  11. Hi JOS, that’s a fantastic article.

    dw: re#8
I don’t think we can possibly hope for any effective counterculture to be bourne of humanity until and unless we fully regain control of our everyday lives in the system which we currently have.

This is no small task and it requires the awareness and involvement of the majority of the population as individuals to take responsibility for the results of their individual actions, both materially and psychologically.

We must relinquish our “Consumer Status” and reclaim our “Status as Citizens”.

I think this becomes a feasible option only after we see and understand the many nuances of manipulation that exist by great effort on the part of those who hold power on our planet.

Until then, I believe it is more ‘narcissistic and infantile indifference’ to think that our current global political, social and economic situation will remain unchanged; or if there existed a sussessful counterculture such as you suggest, it would revert to an equally tenuous situation before more than a couple of decades at most.

    I think JOS’ link from #9 ...

... serves to lift the corner of the veil and aids in the appreciation of the magnitude of effert that is put toward controlling our social conditions.

(my comments are usually “less” lengthy)

  13. Was laughing a bitter sour laugh over the “Observations” of our evolution. I tried to imagine what one of these new creatures would look like...wait! I live in the suburbs (the Gulag Suburbia) and see these creatures everyday.
