In the doorway of a rush hour #5 train
hello
i thought it was time to reappear after the events of last friday.
i didnt want to come back immediatley and sound like the penitent drunk.
i have read back what was said and for the record
1. my comment 29 did not answer mickeys comment 30
2. i was very drunkhowever, i really think it was misunderstanding.
i was being vitriolic as mickey suggested, however i was not being vitriolic toward RMJ, mickey or any other expendable.
what i was saying was in the general sense. the “you” part was not meant toward anyone here, really, how long have i been posting here? why would i suddenly turn round and abuse people i like?
rmj - my comments were not meant to pigeon hole what you were doing for the election and i dont believe for a minute that that is what you are all about.
i was drunkenly ranting, not against anyone that posts here but i was furious in general and let it spill out.
i am sorry for any inconvenience caused but i really must stress that i was taking a wild swipe in the dark at things that piss all of us off, not attacking anyone here.
Posted by michael on from exile 10/28 at 07:45 AMmichael...it’s OK. I’m cool. No problem.
Since I am here talking to michael, I’ll tell a little story that I have never written about. About a year ago I was on the phone with an “officer of the court”. We were discussing the civil case...the accident when I was rear-ended by the large, speeding government dump truck. The history of this case had a lot of abuse from the government so nothing should have surprised me but then the voice on the other end said that the government was considering fabricating a felony criminal case against me unless I dropped the law suit. For a brief second, I was momentarily stunned. The thought of going to prison because I had brought a civil suit against the government was chilling. This was new escalation of the tactics used by the government. It was one of those moments when your whole life flashes before you in an instant. My reply to this latest threat was to tell them that they should put it in writing and bring on the Charges because I was ready for them. It was fast thinking, when I said, “Put it in writing”, but it worked. That particular threat was not made again. Now because of the campaign for Attorney General, I am hearing from people all over the State. One of the questions that comes up frequently is how dangerous is this State government. I, and others, have come to conclusion that there is the possibility of even physical harm. The threat is very small...maybe one chance in a million but if any thing happens to me, it would be more likely the result of something done by a State official than anyone else........I considered writing a statement about this threat of the fabricated felony and putting it in a safe deposit box, but I don’t have one, so I am leaving the record here.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 10/28 at 08:43 AMyou wrote about that on this site didnt you?
i have a vague memory of it.
you have posted it here but i think you should put it on paper as well
Posted by michael on from exile 10/28 at 08:58 AMHello Expendables from rainy, windy NYC. It’s something like a Nor’easter here.
Michael: I have thought about e-mailing you but thought it best to let some time pass. Thanks for your comments today and, like RMJ, I’m certainly not harboring any grudge. This fuckin’ society is enough to drive anyone to vitriol (and I am often guilty of succumbing). It’s good to have you back, my friend.
RMJ: Thanks for sharing that chilling tale. Whenever someone posts a comment here, I get an e-mail of it. So, I will save that, too. I might suggest that you e-mail this story to a few trusted friends so many folks have it. As documented in the bottom two links of today’s posts, dissent in any form can be hazardous to one’s health.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/28 at 08:59 AMthanks both, it is nice to be back posting here
Posted by michael on from exile 10/28 at 09:05 AMGood morning Michael, RMJ & Mickey,
Michael it’s nice to see you back. This world sure can display ‘horrid’ in special ways.
‘Don’t let the Fuckers get you down!’...Ineloquent and oversimplified, but a good thought once in a while.RMJ, Mickey’s right about that phone threat...These things cannot be taken too lightly.
Chill drizzle here today, not so nice.

Posted by JOS on from Chicago 10/28 at 09:48 AMHillary Clinton recently said it “was a big mistake” to push “for an election in the Palestinian territories.”
“If we were going to push for an election, we should have made sure we did something to determine who was going to win,” she explained.
Such absolute contempt for democracy never ceases to astonish me.
Thomas Friedman provided another example a little while back. He noted the elections in Iraq, Palestine, and Lebanon and said the outcome of those elections, bringing Islamic parties to power, demonstrated that Arab nations are just not ready for democracy yet.
Well, that’s not a story, but it’s what was on my mind to say. Hola to mi amigos in the Expendable Nation.
Posted by Jeremy on from Taipei 10/28 at 10:21 AMGreetings to everyone on this rainy & miserable Saturday morning.
Your experience with government harassment & threats, Rosemarie, is quite chilling and I agree with the others that you should do everything you can to protect yourself. It is sad to think that this sort of thing is happening in the so-called number one democracy in the world.
Mickey, your Saturday stories are always welcomed and I only wish I had one to contribute but when I give it some thought they all seem so boring compared to what is offered here.
Posted by Canadian Observer on from 10/28 at 10:30 AMhi mark, your on stage in an hour, im thinking of you, i’ve been walking in the country in a misting rain for the last few hours, the bleak pregnant lowhanging clump of cloud covering all sky as far as the eye can see. i walked through an old dilapitated church with trees fallen through its empty windows and open roof, an opening in the moss leaf floor leading into the crypt where the bones of those long dead were visible, scraping the muck out of the engraved grave slabs in the undergrowth surrounding the names of ones put to earth two hundred years ago, one a young man dead at twenty eight., were they his bones i saw? the land surrounding beyond this sacred site stretches hilly and grassed for great distances lone standing oaks proud and great scattered here and there, a grouping of sycamores whisper to each other, sloping through the wet grass to reach the ruins of john eyres mansion trees growing atop the walls enclosing a madness of bush and shrub and fallen brick and forgotten rows and loves and tears and wishes the ghosts wraithlike glimmer at the corner of my eye and wisp to their favoured corners of abandoned grace. walking through the ruins time gapes and invites, the place is left behind as all will be and over the next grassy hillock to find footfalls in a hazelwood gnarled and twisted the trivided trunks glisten in the mist and gleamingly tell of eyres on horseback riding through the beat of hoof fall shaking the berries and sending beads of blessed rain water on a wondrous flight to welcoming earth. down on hunkers the wet grass soaking into the trouser knees a whispering begins inside and the fire subsiding amongst the staunch age and mad burst of red berry old gnarled and twisted they stand with kneeling breath in their midst searching within sounding uncertainty to the light rus rustling breeze in the hazelwood some peace descends and rising from the earth to ghost forward alone and unsure.
Posted by declan on from Galway 10/28 at 12:36 PMHi MZ and all the crew, sorry i don’t get on line much recently so i haven’t been able to keep up but i applaud your tenacity of purpose from afar, hoping to hit the apple when the winter lets up, yours vestigialy dex
Posted by declan on from galway 10/28 at 12:52 PMHello Expendables (of the regularly-commenting as well as prodigal and lurking varieties).
I’m just listening to a pleasant track by Jim O’Rourke. The lyrics:
Women of the world, take over
‘Cause if you don’t the world will come to an end
And it won’t take longI think we can safely assume he didn’t have that bloodthirsty bitch Hillary Clinton in mind when he wrote the song.
Posted by Keir on from The Hague (Jackowski election hdqts) 10/28 at 01:06 PMFuckin’ stupid: killing elephants to save them. Too familiar.
Posted by Keir on from The Hague (Jackowski election hdqts) 10/28 at 01:24 PMkeir, i agree totally that the link you provided is the wrong approach but one of the major problems of conservation strategy is correcting the errors of previous conservation strategy.
the best of intentions have led to serious difficulties in preserving this or that species.
it isn’t a simple issue at all. i am not suggesting you were saying it was but it is a very very complicated picture.
since i have have been away from home i have used my semi self-imposed solitude to study these issues in particular and the basic thing is that what will help to preserve one thing in one place will be totally ineffective in another place for another species.
the strategies for each thing are totally different and have to be.
i am not sticking up for the guy
Posted by michael on from exile 10/28 at 01:57 PMHello again, everyone. Lots to chew on above (as if I’d expect anything less). Good to see Declan here and I agree, the issue of conservation is dodgy when one exists in a destructive culture. It’s enough to make one physically ill.
Which leads me to:
With Michele at a physical therapy course today, I’ve been on my own so I took in a bargain matinee of Flags of Our Fathers. Since my first book was about WWII, I feel almost obligated to see such films when they come out . And, of course, to write something about ‘em. Stay tuned for that.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/28 at 03:13 PMi never got that book yet so i will have to wiat to get the nuances.
whats the physical therapy all about if you don’t mind me asking…
i am also happy cos i made the front page of my favourite site for once.
i am sure some of you know what that is
favourite-favorite
