All the leaves are brown
Well yeah, the problem doesn’t really seem to be the asphalt under the tree near my place on tenth avenue here, while it’s too bad for the leaves that fall on that, the real trouble is the concrete of the highways that extend out from this steel, glass and concrete jungle of mine up into the wilderness beyond.
I found this through the link that Keir put up yesterday, David Byrne’s thoughts on the elections:
http://journal.davidbyrne.com/I just know that one of these days I’m going to pull up next to him at a red light while bicycling around town. And I really hope that when I do, I don’t say ‘hey, I was just watching Stop Making Sense for the millionth time last night and...”

Bring the deathly torments of winter.
It is actually like an entertainment to see what kind of unseasonable abomination will occur in each year’s cycle.
Winters aren’t what they used to be round these parts.
The old time threat of hypothermia in a snow bank and snowmen or modern erosion.
fun…Posted by Youngfox on from errrrr 11/09 at 09:09 AMI really miss fall. There’s a feeling you get when the weather cools and the trees explode into color that just can’t be put into words. Of course, we don’t really get fall here in Taiwan.
Posted by Jeremy on from Taipei 11/09 at 10:04 AMMorning all...it’s a beautiful fall day here in Chicago.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 11/09 at 10:27 AMHello Expendables.
JOS: New York is also enjoying excellent fall weather today.
Cat Lady: I did see Byrne down near NYU a few years ago and if I had read his inane take on politics back then, I might have scolded him.
Jeremy: What seasons do you have in Taiwan?
Youngfox: Long time, no see. I see you’re in fine form.

Mickey...you did it again (read my mind). Today I had to go to Rutland with some people. One of them is a new transplant to Vermont from Queens. All day long I wanted to ask him if there are any trees in Queens but I knew that that was a dumb question. I had a good opportunity to look at the Green Mountains on the trip. The leaves are all gone but it was a beautiful, warm day...sweater weather.
Last night on a new tv channel (comcast) that I never saw before, the topic was the Rumsfeld “resignation” and how it will change things. I called in and they took my call on the air. I said that the departure of Rumsfeld would not change anything. It is the Congress and usa foreign policy that must be changed. I added that Rumfeld is being scapegoated. Their reply to me made me laugh. They said that they had been waiting for someone to call in and shed a tear from Rummy. Well, I am not shedding any tears but replacing one war lover with another does not make for any change.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 11/09 at 05:04 PMWell, RMJ, “leave” it to me to read your mind.
Anyway, the mere thought of anyone anywhere “shedding a tear” over Rumsfeld’s firing is amazing. None other than Henry Kissinger called Rummy “the most ruthless man I’ve ever met.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/09 at 05:07 PMMickey, that is quite an endorsement coming from Kissinger.
Youngfox...I might have to move north where it’s warmer. I have had some old time winters here...30 below for days, snow so high you couldn’t open the door, wind howling and taking shingles off the roof, 5 foot icicles falling off the roof and bumping your head, ouch !!! hummmm how many days till March 20....
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 11/09 at 05:32 PMRMJ, to me, Vermont falls into the “great place to visit, but...” category.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/09 at 09:57 PMWe’ve got a wet season, a very hot season, a hot season, and a cool season (which can actually be quite cold when your apartment is the same or a lesser temperature than it is outside).
