Adds nothing of value to the world

  1. Excellent point, Mickey.  Youngfox and I have asked the same questions to vendors many times - they look at you like you’ve sprouted horns or wait for you to put you tin foil cap back on before leaving.

The free advertising logo mentality of pop culture is absolutely flabbergasting.

Oh - and good morning - now I’ll be backtracking to see what I missed over the better part of the week.

  2. Hi Amelopsis and Mickey.
I have never bought a shirt or anything else that has an advertisement on it. I always thought that they should pay you to wear it. For a while some people were being paid to have advertisements on their cars. If the price was right, I could be bought there...but then again no company would want to advertise on my piece of junk.
That “photo” of the big apple is priceless.

    My captcha word is “hell”.

  3. Looks like great expendabe minds think alike ;)

  4. And we all know our minds are certainly expendable…

Hell everyone, I mean...hello everyone. Another sunny fall day in NYC.

Empress: You were sorely missed here this week. Welcome back.

RMJ: Somehow, I just can’t see you driving around Vermont with an ad on your car...unless it was the Fisk photos.

Captcha sez: congress (don’t make me laugh)

  5. Apt. captcha, RMJ, considering that there’s a black line pointing out the equivalent spot on that “map” where my apartment would be, here in… Hell’s Kitchen. That drawing makes me glad I don’t live in Battery Park-- yuck.

I have plenty of TA shirts, various fundraising rides, etc.: http://www.transalt.org, but not Nike…

  6. And hey, the Fisk link says March/April 2003 at the top-- has it not been updated in a long time?

  7. As it’s Remembrance Day here in Canuckistan and Afcanada, AmerIqa, etc....
You can’t help but remember something war related.
I choose to make it a remembrance of all those who died in war.  Those combatants on the ‘other side’ were just fighting a war for their countries, and the nationality of civilian dead do not quantify their innocence.

Today I’ll give a thought to all those who have died and who die today in armed conflict and it’s aftermath.

But I’ll no longer wear my red poppy.

The propaganda machine is in VERY high gear here, and I cannot condone even a modicum of it by wearing it.

    And...I am resentful of that.

  8. Wow - pardon all my spelling errors.  Too many to list.

  9. Hey Cat Lady. Coney Island’s not doing so well in that “map” either.

Empress: Thanks for the “remembrance.” I’ll be posting something veteran-related here on Monday.

For now, Michele and I heading out to enjoy the sun at one of these two places:

    See you later…

  10. Oh! oh!
I vote for the BBG.  Find yourself a big beech purple beech tree to appreciate the smooth bark (or voyeristically enjoy the messages doubtlessly carved there)
And find a sugar maple - there’s got be at least one there and it’s sure to be a bright red by now.

And what is this ‘sun’ you speak of?? It’s cold wet and gray out here.

    Hell, the captcha says “hot”

  11. I’m back Amelopsis, Mickey, and James. It is really nice weather here today. I just opened up all the windows. About driving around with an advertisement on my car...at one point, long ago, things were so bad that for a brief moment I wondered how much I could get for having a company logo tatooed on my forehead. I think that someone actually did that. And someone had a logo shaved into his head hair. I know that it sounds weird but it beats some of the jobs that I have had.
Mickey, I think you got me in trouble. I forwarded your geography/anatomy graphic for the day and now I am not hearing from any of my friends. Maybe they are just busy attending the Socialists meeting which is today.

  12. Oh man this is good-- is this what we have to look forward to with this new congress?

  13. Check this company out.

This is not meant as spam, it fits a few of the above topics.

  14. dj323...Have you seen the adbusters flag? It has company logos in place of the stars. I believe that adbusters is a Canadian group?

  15. Hello again, everyone. We went to the BBG...and the Japanese Garden was excellent:

dj323: Welcome to the site and thanks for the link. Good stuff.

RMJ: Are your friends talking to you yet?

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 11/11  at  06:41 PM
  16. Yeah, Adbusters is Canadian, so is Blackspot. BS considers itself an “Anticorporation.” It’s an interesting idea, sort of a backlash against traditional corporate ideals. They specifically target Nike, and their acquisition of Converse. All of their products are animal-free, etc…

Thanks for letting me drop by!

  17. Thanks, dj323. Come back soon.
