Switching gears: “Imagine how our discourse and actions would be different"

Posted by Mickey Z on 11/15 at 05:03 AM
  1. Good morning Mickey. I like the way that you “humanize” our victims. We definately need more of that. One problem though is that for reasons that I don’t understand, some people are not capable of feeling any empathy. I call this trait “emotional detachment disorder”. How else can anyone explain why so many are so silent? I guess that some would say that we are a nation of amoral sociopaths. Thanks for chipping away at our great national psychosis.

  2. Something I came across recently which might help more people in this country confront their psychosis, but perhaps that’s why it’s reached less than 10 theater screens throughout the country…

  3. Morning RMJ, sk, Mick, and everyone else…

EDD, RMJ?  That’s a good way to describe it.

  4. sk...Yes, we are afraid of the truth (that’s one of my favorite Jack Nicholson quotes. It has widespread application.)

JOS...I think we are getting sicker by the minute.

Living in the usa is like dying a death of a thousand little cuts. I know that this is a trivial problem but it is an example of how things work here. I have an Epson printer. Many months ago a class action suit was settled. I just checked to see why I did not receive my $45. settlement. Looks like I am not alone. Chalk up another win for the lawyers and corporations.

  5. Hello Expendables. It’s still warm for November in NYC.

SK: I was invited to a press screening of that film but couldn’t make it. You’re right, it’s looks provocative.

RMJ and JOS: A pleasure, as always.

  6. Another excellent post, Mickey!  I quite agree with Jensen’s thoughts.

We are having some of the coldest November days in the SE of Australia - yesterday, it snowed and more snow is expected today.  And summer starts on 1 December according to the calendar - if one can believe it.

‘Hi’ to Rosemarie, sk and JOS.  Ciao amici ..

  7. Hello Helga. Enjoy the “snows of summer.”

  8. Just when we thought we had heard the last of O.J.

  9. Mickey...the OJ case is a perfect example of how dysfunctional the legal system is. If that case had been tried in front of an ordinary jury without any lawyers or judge, there would have been a different verdict. I can only imagine how OJ’s latest venture is making the families of the victims feel. I feel sorry for his kids.

  10. O.J. walks free while Mumia and Peltier remain on death row.

  11. Mumia and Peltier did not have enough $$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  12. Agreed. Green outweighs skin color. You are innocent until proven poor.

  13. Many cases are decided because of “expert testimony”. For the right price an “expert” will testify any way that he is told. I like the definition of as “expert”. He is just some guy who comes into town carrying a brief case.

That’s a great comment, “INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN POOR”. That says it all.  I have recently filed a document with the Vt Supreme Court, where I request that citizens in Vermont receive the same level of justice as they have in China. There, in China, poor people are given MORE rights in the court than they are here in the usa. I have not yet received a reply to my latest request.

  14. There’s a word we could do without: Expert.

  15. Hello MZ & RMJ:

I had to jump in when I saw OJ mentioned. I always refer to the following article when someone brings up OJ. Dick Gregory is a guy who is “in the know.” Granted, he’s not the most gifted writer. But the content is surreal.

  17. Talk about dysfunctional legal system. Are you aware of this gem:

Monday afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed a bill that reclassifies unlawful animal-rights tactics as terrorism under certain conditions, even if they are non-violent.

  18. Thanks, Nick. I’m just about to write a column about that for Veg News.

Hope to see you around here again soon…
