America vs. Democracy (lessons from Greece, Italy & beyond)
“This is what we get”....I hope that everyone clicks on to that link on the front page here today. Pass the word, this is what your tax dollars are buying. Tell 10 people and ask them to tell 10 people. This is “International Click the Link Day”.
About the usa hating democracy, I always think of Iran, date August 1953 (maybe).
Today’s paper has a letter calling for the government to try me. The letter writer implies that if they don’t, we will have “anarchy”. Hummmm, that one put a smile on my face. A little bit of anarchy would be an improvement, right?
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/12 at 09:21 AMI meant to say “retry” me. Sorry.......
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/12 at 09:23 AMHello Expendables. it still doesn’t feel like winter in Astoria.
RMJ: The one thing I’d like to “retry” is our interview. I re-read it and all it needs a mention in the intro about the retrial and one Q&A at the end to update things. I hope we can do that tomorrow and then I’ll get it posted on at least 10 sites. From there, we’ll ask comrades to spread the word.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/12 at 09:56 AMMickey, I think I can do it tomorrow. I also re-read the interview. It does need updating. There is a lot of misinformation out there, even here in my home town. People STILL think that I was arrested for blocking traffic. I am so small that I couldn’t block traffic even if I wanted to. I have to be careful crossing the street because motorists never see me.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/12 at 10:32 AMGreat articles, Mick. Yes, RMJ, a lot of anarchy would be a huge improvement.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 12/12 at 10:36 AMHey JOS.
RMJ: Let’s also follow-up on the idea raising money for your legal fees.

Just want to check in. I’m having one of those days were I see clearly that I need to get a new fucking job. Sigh.
Posted by Brian on from Belly of the Beast 12/12 at 03:29 PMI meant “where” of course.
Posted by Brian on from Belly of the Beast 12/12 at 03:30 PMHoward: This one’s for you...
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/12 at 03:50 PM“This is what we get” - indeed, Mickey! Good to know that there are Americans like you who love their country enough to criticise it - a sign of true patriotism in my view.
Hi, Rosemarie, JOS and Brian - from a very hazy Daylesford. The smoke-filled air is due to the bushfires raging in Victoria, even if they are hundreds of kms away. We might be in for the worst bushfires this summer in living memory.
Take care, all of you.
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/12 at 05:01 PM‘A little bit of anarchy would be an improvement, right?’ Too right you are, Rosemarie!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/12 at 05:02 PMHi JOS, Helga, and Brian
Mickey...the AP called and wants to do an in depth interview tomorrow. I don’t know how long it will take. I will be free later in the day or on Friday.
Yes, anarchy gets no respect in this country. Which has done more harm in the world, Anarchy or Capitalism? Find a text book that will give a truthful answer to that question.
News is reporting right now that 10,000 Vermonters will get foreign aid from President Chavez of Venezuela in the form of a 40% discount on 200 gallons of heating oil. That there are 10,000 Vermonters who are so poor that they need foreign aid, is a perfect example of the failure of Capitalism.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/12 at 06:15 PMRMJ: Needless to say, don’t worry about me. I think AP has just a little wider reach than I do. Good luck.
Hello Helga…
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/12 at 06:18 PMMickey, in my book you are a lot more important than the AP. But they are coming all the way from Montpelier so I am not sure about the timing.

http://www.nysun.com/article/44971Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/12 at 07:26 PMGreat link. RMJ. I love the way Ward Churchill doesn’t take a single step back. It’s also pathetic how his “critics” distract from his main thesis by choosing to focus on what percentaage of his blood is Indian. Easier to distract than to disprove.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/12 at 07:32 PMDo The Math Dept.: You can sail to the North Pole in 2040 but you’ll have to launch your craft at least 25 miles inland from today’s coastline.
Redefining anarchy as a state of lawlessness rather than unfettered democracy is one of Western Civ’s greatest propaganda feats. Common people should stand and cheer when “It’ll be anarchy!” rings out. Instead, it’s like saying “Eight dollar gasoline!” Thhhppppt.
It sickened me to see hordes of the “respectable” left run for cover when Ward Churchill was being victimized by UC. I’ve filed that abuse of solidarity under ‘Goes Around’ and I’m wicked patient.
Lastly, Ambrose Bierce is credited with writing “War is God’s way of teaching Americans geography.” I can’t find the exact source (it’s not in the DD), but if that ain’t true, it oughta be.
‘Night to MZ, RMJ, JOS, Helga, and Brian. I’m Expended.
Posted by Zenprole on from Urth 12/12 at 08:12 PMHey Zenprole. Here’s your quote:
http://tinyurl.com/yy7qxlAs for Churchill, I’m proud to say I not only publicly defended him but he specifically noted this fact in an interview he did with Josh Frank.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/12 at 08:20 PMI think it was Chomsky who said if we had any sense of history we would almost die laughing at the assertion that the U.S. government is invading X to help spread democracy.
Also, I really hear Brian today. I really do try to avoid the stoolies but then they make such a point to get in your face.... and then I remind myself that nothing ever changes.
Posted by Fiona on from san diego 12/12 at 11:11 PMHello, Mickey!
And good on Chavez for helping Vermonters, Rosemarie.
‘That there are 10,000 Vermonters who are so poor that they need foreign aid, is a perfect example of the failure of Capitalism.’ I could not agree more ..Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/13 at 05:00 PM
