The Trial (and re-trial) of America's "Peace Grandma"

Posted by Mickey Z on 12/14 at 05:32 AM
  1. To Rosemarie

You are a true inspiration.  I hope you don’t have to go to jail and I hope you win the appeal.  More people need to do what you did and disabuse themselves of the notion that the US (or the west generally) is a force for good on this planet.  There is just so much evidence to the contrary.

Again, best of luck to you.

    Chau for now

  2. Wow.  I go and ask how things are going and the next day MZ posts this story of what should correctly be about the overly hungry ego of Vermont’s prosecutor.

    Rosemarie I cannot believe this!!!

Of course I’ll be endeavouring to post on this, and likewise of course wish you all the rich justice that you deserve.  This is so clearly a vindictive case - what with the peculiar IP traffic at my blog on the last post and the issue with your previous ‘defense’ lawyer, someone’s got an axe to grind and wishes to make an example of you for their ‘last hoorah’; or such is my opinion, in any event.

I’m relieved to hear that in light of all this, you sound like you’re ready to give those brass balls a good polish and show them off!

I’d say don’t lose heart, but it’s not you’re style, and you’ve got more of it than anyone else I know.

  3. “...if they found Jackowski knew that she would block traffic during her protest, then she must have intended to block traffic.”
Thats an interesting piece of logic. I suppose if it was used in a trial against the peace granny, it’d be OK to use it against bomber pilots.
Hopefully this will be a good omen for you Rosemarie…

  4. Hello Expendables. Yes, it’s another warm December day here in NYC. I will likely wear shorts when I walk to the gym later.

Good to see you, Empress, Mew, and Edson. Thanks, in advance, for any help in getting the word out. I’ve sent out this link and the response has been slow...but it is up at Oped News, GNN, World News Trust, and Smirking Chimp so far. It’s amazing how motivated people on the “Left” can be to write long scathing comments when they read one line or two that bugs them...but when a call like this goes out, it’s like pulling teeth. Suddenly everyone is too busy.

    #### ‘em, I say. Don’t let the negativity and inertia grind you down. Whoever truly wants to help spread the word about RMJ will do so without prodding.

(In the end, it shows how useless a label “Left” is. I wish I could immunize myself from being lumped in that or any group.)

  5. Let me second that, “#### ‘em,” Mick.

Best of luck to you, RMJ...thanks again for standing up and saying what’s right.

  7. For what its worth, I posted a bulletin on my MySpace page.  At least 61 “friends” will see it.  What else can I do?

  8. Unbefuckinglievable!

It is time to start spreading the word again.
I’m off to meditate on this, make some coffee and blow out the mental cobwebs so that I might read up on the situation and get clacking on a commentary and link fest worthy of the putrid bastards who have obviously taken RMJ’s case on as a personal vendetta.

    RMJ,
I am very sorry that you have obviously been chosen for incremental destruction by people quite unworthy of the power they wield so corruptly.

On the basest level of thought how can the tax payers of the state tolerate the waste of time and tax dollars by a few grudge holders in office who want RMJ to burn for a years old action against a war that has degenerated far beyond the parameters of a civil disobedience case and into a multi-generational holocaust of human suffering?

I suppose that question is akin to asking why zombies tolerate the maggots eating their brains. Zombies just busy themselves trying to eat other peoples brains.
    Fucking zombie nation.

I close my eyes and find you Rosemarie, I send you strength and courage.

    “Dance, when you’re broken open.
Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off.
Dance in the middle of the fighting.
    Dance in your blood.
    Dance, when you’re perfectly free.”

It was my pleasure to post about RMJ on my blog:

  10. Hey JOS, Brian, and Youngfox. Thanks for being a part of this. I’m sorry to report that I haven’t found any other sites picking up the original post.

I certainly don’t want to designate myself as RMJ’s spokesperson so I hope she stops by soon with input. For now, I can suggest this: When I’ve tried to publicize my books, etc., I have posted notices on Indymedia sites all over the globe. Also, Craig’s List, Meet-up, etc. It’s such a minimal commitment of time and effort and you never know who might stumble across it. So, when it comes to RMJ, just spread the word as you see fit. Even a mass e-mail to your friends and family would help. Basically, right from your computer, you can reach kindred spirits by the tens of thousands in a matter of seconds.

  11. Rosemarie

You are a inspiration to all of us.  Your bravery and fortitude in these circumstances show us what a courageous person you are.  We are behind you 100%.

  12. Hello CO. It’s been a while. Nice to see you.

Okay, I got something posted at Metafilter (http://www.metafilter.com). The comment threads can get a little rough there but as I said above, you never know who might stumble across it.

    Even captcha sez: “possible”

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 12/14  at  03:49 PM
  13. Well, that post didn’t last too long at Metafilter. I knew they wouldn’t be keen on me linking to a site that featured an interview by me but it’s not like I was self-promoting. My interview with RMJ covered a lot of ground...thus it was logical to use it to introduce this situation to a more mainstream audience. Instead, regulars at Meta reported me, got the post deleted, and might get me banned from the site.

If you really wanna get depressed, dig this: Babies are being blown up in Iraq but some Americans are more interested in spending their day ferreting out self-links on a website. The fuckin’ North Pole will have no ice within 30 years but we’d rather sit on our goddamned asses and surf the web, hiding behind fake names and making sure no one breaks any rules.

  14. Hi Mickey and Rosemarie and everyone-- really too bad about MetaFilter, that site’s often made a bad impression on me, a very non-Expendable-like crowd over there. Hey, how wonderful, that we’ve totally changed the meaning of that word into a positive thing not a negative here… anyway, all my best, RMJ, wish there was more I could do to help what with how burdened I am here, but later sometime…

  15. Hey, whiner,

You wanted to post to MetaFilter because it is a successful site with a huge readership. It is a successful site with a huge readership in part because it successfully prevents asshats like you from using it as a place to pimp your pet projects. But why should the rules apply to you, right? I mean, your pet project is super important. Giving your super important pet project a pass couldn’t possibly lead to future problems for the site, could it?

Please go #### yourself, you self-righteous twat. Perhaps at the North Pole… I hear it is nice this time of year.

  16. oh that’s lovely...makes you wonder about what goes on in the mind of the person who wrote it.

serious anger issues, I’d guess...his father never liked him.  Now he finds pleasure writing anonymous comments using words such as “asshat” and “twat.” You’ve protected Metafilter asshole...good for you.

  17. Metafucknut.

If I ever had a use for the site, I don’t anymore.

I guess the criteria for judging the importance of information is all about who’s posting what, never mind all that substance of the article mumbo jumbo.

You totally got me there. Having to endlessly debate which self-promoting crap does or doesn’t get to ignore posting guidelines isn’t even an issue. YOU ARE SO RIGHT!And for the record, JOS, asshat is a totally awesome word, and you know it. “Fuckchops” is pretty sweet, too. Twat? I could take it or leave it, normally. There’re the sexist implications on the one hand, and the cool British overtones on the other. But in the above case, it just really worked with the metre of the line.Oh. And my daddy hated me. Gotta run… court-ordered anger management classes, you know.

  20. WOW !  I just got home after being away all day. When I turned my computer on and saw all of this, I just don’t know what to say. Without Mickey and all of you who have been my guardian angels all along, I don’t know what would have happened to me. (Yes, I know that none of you believe in angels, even if you are all angelic and have earned your halos. Knowing all of you has convinced me that there are angels who walk among us.) This is especially great, because the newspaper has a history of pretending that there is very little support out there. I will send the link to Mickey’s to the Press. Wow, I am just so surprised to see all of this today!

  21. Hey RMJ...welcome. You arrrived just in the nick of time.

Since I’m not interested in encouraging trolls, I’ll make it brief for Metafucknut. Sure, I understand that making one exception could lead to problems but stop playing games. You know I wasn’t “pimping” a “pet project.” Also, putting aside the merits of my post, the reality remains that far too many humans waste their time and intellect doing things like monitoring chat rooms and comment threads...waiting for a chance to act out on their deepest anti-social tendencies. The internet is the perfect place for cowards. These folks wouldn’t even make eye contact in person but give them a fake name and zero accountability and they suddenly get mighty brave.

Anyway, more importantly, RMJ is here. Let’s hope we can do something useful for her.

  22. JOS...I just received a google alert about your site, this is after 3 google alerts about Mickey’s posts. THANKS xoxoxox The Internet is really humming along very nicely for me today.  I think that tonight I should just put my feet up and have a tall cool one and let good things happen. You guys are doing all the work.

  23. Oh, oh. Did I speak too soon. If there is a troll here, don’t worry. I’ll take him on. Troll, come on out of the dark. Identify yourself and let’s debate the real issues, OK. I’m ready. Let’s talk about the Churchill statement on the front page here today. And besides that, Mickey has a body of work that is respected by a whole lot of people. Let’s see a list of your accomplishments, Troll.

  24. for the record - ‘Metafucknut’ was used instead of Metafilter - I wasn’t name calling (not that I’m above that, but I like the civil discourse here)

HI Rosemarie!!  If you think we’re all such nice folks, it’s because you inspire that sort of stand up and support kind of attitude by putting your money where your mouth is - (it’s also the reason you’re being targeted)

Enjoy the tall cool one, it’s well deserved.

  25. Empress, I thought you were just having fun with the whole “asshat” incident. Come to think of it, I forgot to tell our friend that it’s Mr. Asshat to him.

RMJ: Have you received any e-mails from today’s postings?

  26. Trolls take notice here....

    “You’ve got to learn
    that when
    you push people around,
    some people push back.
    As they should.
    As they must.
    And as they undoubtedly will.
    There is justice
    in such symmetry.” ///(Ward Churchill)

  28. Best wishes to you RMJ. I will lift your name in prayer and also get the word out to people I know.

The funny thing is that most of the so called conservatives I spoke to said the government was overstepping here and that your protest is your right even if they disagree with you.

It just shows me that we’re not all that different and if we could get rid of these divisive labels we pin on each other we’d be much better off.
