Ah yes, it's the old "Don't worry, I'll promise I'll pull out" line

  1. morning all.

    tough one mickey,

first i thought operation “half full or half empty”, but that wasnt quite right

then i thought “operation overstayed welcome” but i am not sure how welcome the US and UK forces were in the first place.

finally, i have settled for “operation tail [between] legs”

  2. Good morning michael and Mickey and all to chime in later…

My mind has been on “Operation Just Cause” as we approach the anniversary. My thoughts about the initial invasion of Iraq in 1991 was that it should be called “The Bait and Switch War” because the usa had enticed Iraq to invade Kuwait. (See the transcript of the meeting between April Glaspie and Saddam. There was some justification for the border dispute because Kuwait was slant drilling into Iraq’s oil fields.)
Since being shocked and awed in March of 2003, I would call the illegal war and occupation “Operation Just Because We Wanted To”, or better said, “Just Because the Corporations Told Us To Do It”, or “Just Because It Helped Halliburton’s Bottom Line”.
We, the people, should not allow the Press to twist the facts. During my meeting with the AP reporter on Wednesday I pointed out my disappointment with the Press. They have allowed the Pentagon to take control of the language and have fallen in step when they use words such as “collateral damage”. Using embedded reporters as a news source is bad enough. We should not allow them to take control of the dictionary too.

  9. i just adpated this from a favourite song of mine

no poetry.. lyrics for a song

    parts of it are true…

Lord, I tried the best I can
    I’ve asked everybody In kazakstan
    But I still don’t understand….
    Bill O’reilly - ANCHORMAN

I’ve been to daejon, daechon and to Nepal
I’ve even been to look for Sidney blumenthal
I found him on his knees at the wailing wall
    Crying…bill o’reilly ANCHORMAN

Well I marvel at the things we find beneath the ground
And that a man can go faster than the speed of sound

But I still can’t get my head around
    Bill o’reilly – ANCHORMAN

I’m cold and I’m hungry and I’m in dundalk
I’ve got no busfare I’ve gotta walk
its raining soup and I’ve got a fork
    where be my camper van?

Well I’d like to meet Stevenson the engineer
And I’d like to meet faraday and buy him a beer
And I’d LOOOOVVEE to meet the bloke who had the bright idea

  10. Good day, Expendables. It’s another balmy spring day in eastern MA. Last night at 9PM it was 50 and there were kids outside in t-shirts, skateboarding.

    Why We’re Losing, Reason #32087:
While this non-union market was under construction, I repeatedly advised cashiers at the union store to suggest to their stewards an information picket. Now the place has been open almost one year. Great timing, gentlemen. I’m sure Hannaford’s will come out with their hands up. http://tinyurl.com/yft9jr

MZ… always with the surprise contests. I offer Operation Canned Sand.

  11. Oh yeah… found this at the Real Time With Bill Maher web page:

“Well, it sounds to me like when a drunken surgeon, who is losing a patient, is asking for more scalpels. It doesn’t make any sense. I mean, that guy has been clueless from day one with regard to this whole war. And, you know, the one voice that is not heard at all in the situation in Iraq, is the voice of the Iraqi people, over 70% of whom think the United States should not be there; 78% of whom believe that the U.S. military’s presence causes more conflict than it helps avoid. And that’s one voice that you never hear in the mainstream media, I think.”
    – Tom Morello

Captcha sez ‘market.’ I say military keynesianism.

  12. Another day of great comments here today.  PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION LINKED BELOW. For those who do not know about Diego Garcia, Read my old article titled, “The Secret That the Government Kept For 30 Years”. It is up on the PressAction site. Diego Garcia is the perfect example of the usa quest for Empire...even if it means genocide.

  13. Zenprole...when I moved here 21 years ago, there were 5 or 6 large grocery stores here. Now there are only 2. Hannafords is one of them. I am sorry to hear about the Union troubles. Here it is a better store to go to because the workers are very polite and helpful and also they do not have the problem of the “computer” making mistakes and over-charging customers there. Over-charging “mistakes” are a common problem in the other store.

  14. Hello Expendables. It’s damp here but still warm for December.

I can see I am woefully behind with the comments so I’ll need some time to catch up. However, I will say I think we still need the definitive name for America’s alleged withdrawal from the land with perhaps the most oil reserves on the planet. For now, I do like “operation tail [between] legs.”

Also, Zen, I wouldn’t call this a contest. I don’t have a prize to give out.

Okay, time to sign RMJ’s petition. I’ll see you all later.

  15. RMJ: Have you gotten any response from yesterday’s posts? I just found two more people trying to help: here and here. I must admit, I thought this would go over bigger. I guess folks are too preoccupied camping out in front of Best Buy to be the first in line to buy Playstation 3.

  21. MZ, the comment at the end of #10 was supposed to be cute. I think I missed. No prize is needed for this one, of course; we should conserve our resources for the damaged people that come back.

Thanks to Sam Smith for the quick response on RMJ’s struggle. I e-mailed him yesterday. Aside from the worthy assist, the site is worth a look.
