If you seen one non-conformist, well...you've seen 'em all
Morning everyone.
Can’t resist...“You’re all individuals!"Posted by Mew on from london 12/21 at 05:43 AMBrilliant, Mew. I’m adding it to the post as a hyperlink. Thanks.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/21 at 05:51 AMBtw, good morning, Expendables. I’ll be back later.

unrelated thoughts for the day (the creationism is stuff is scaring me more and more lately)...

Posted by Youngfox on from 12/21 at 09:09 AMThanks for the song, Youngfox. You are truly a man of eclectic tastes. And thanks for the Solstice reminder. I just added a link at the bottom of the post. It’s a true group effort today.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/21 at 10:07 AMFrom your article:
...the Washington Post (insert almost any paper here) was an exciting paper to read because “you never know on what page you would find a page-one story.”
I love that quote…
Happy Hemisphere Leaning Holidays to everyone!

Posted by Zenprole on from Urth 12/21 at 10:53 AMI have this vision of how way too many people use that Robert Frost poem as a high school yearbook quote. I mean, if you all quote it, then it’s not the road less traveled anymore, is it?
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 12/21 at 11:20 AMNo, it isn’t, James…
I think it is used so often because very few people follow Mark Twain’s advice:
“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 12/21 at 11:55 AMI´m off up/down to france for a week for the holidays, here´s some warm greetings for you all.
Helped perform a turtle autopsy today (no fault of mine).Posted by owen on from schmarcelona 12/21 at 12:21 PMHappy Solstice wishes to Expendables all over the warming globe!
(10 degrees C is not feeling very festive wintery by my standards and the squirrels seem to think spring’s come already)

Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 12/21 at 03:01 PMHello everyone. What a great collection of Expendables we have here today...but where’s RMJ?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/21 at 05:24 PMI don’t know...let’s hope she shows up.
Glad to see James on from Hell’s Kitchen again, though.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 12/21 at 05:31 PM‘The Society of American Mavericks and Eccentrics’ - I like that, Mickey!
Hi, Mew, Michael, Youngfox, JOS, zenprole, James Owen and Amelopsis - from a slightly wet Daylesford. At long last, there is some rain but not enough to stop the bushfires in the southeast of Victoria.Gore Vidal speaks up on Cuba and US imperialism in general:
http://www.counterpunch.org/
We might all agree that Gore is quite an eccentric and maverick!Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/21 at 06:54 PMHappy holidaying in France, Owen!
And where is Rosemarie? I join Mickey.
LOVE the Mark Twain quote, JOS.
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/21 at 06:58 PMHi everybody....sorry to be late arriving today. Things have been a little bit busy around here. It has been another “legal” day. The word on the street is that the government is considering upping the Charge against me. Maybe calling it “reckless disregard” or something. Have you ever heard of that being done, 3 or 4 years after the alleged offense? I guess the rule is that the government is omnipotent. I don’t know what to think. Don’t know if it is fact or rumor. Either way it’s OK with me. Maybe before they are done with me, it will be some trumped up Charge with a life sentence. I was thinking, all of this fuss just because I occupied about 12 square inches (size 7 shoe) of the public space for approx. 15 minutes...and all of this from a government that occupies whole nations.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/21 at 07:03 PMHi, Rosemarie!
I so hope that everything goes well for you. Could not agree more with you here:
‘just because I occupied about 12 square inches (size 7 shoe) of the public space for approx. 15 minutes...and all of this from a government that occupies whole nations.’Keep the fire burning!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/21 at 07:08 PMHello Helga. Yes, I read that Vidal interview earlier today. He never fails to provoke thought.
RMJ: Welcome. I’m wondering if you’ve any ideas as to legal representation. Has anyone contacted you? Is starting a defense fund something we should consider?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/21 at 07:13 PMHelga, thanks for the Vidal link. In the best sense of the term, he’s a powerful Jeffersonian voice. Glad you got some rain in Daylesford. In New England, winter is making a hesitant appearance these last few days.
I have longed for a cell phone jammer - not just for Christmas, but any day of the year! http://tinyurl.com/y6b8uc
Of course, the FCC is protecting the public by imposing draconian fines. The cell phone industry offers excuses against them that render ‘tortured logic’ an obsolete term. The good news is that France has legalized them for limited use (see link).Posted by Zenprole on from Urth 12/21 at 08:17 PMZenprole, I’d love to get me one of them jammers. I’d carry it everywhere...especially to the gym. Despite the no-cellphone rules in most gyms, it seems that half the place (including employees) is yammering away.
