Bill O'Reilly = Super Genius

Posted by Mickey Z on 01/23 at 05:22 AM
  1. Really tired, but had to ask, what the heck is this:

    http://www.walken2008.com/

It’s not even funny, like that General Zod for president website. Just… I don’t know.

  2. Morning all! Chilly but sunny inside the beltway.

James, that is odd. Not sure what it is, but it gives me this odd feeling. Like, this guy has a really good point. His experience is in being an actor, and he does a great job of posing for pictures to look serious and thoughtful. I bet he delivers his lines really well. That probably makes him the best candidate around.

Mickey, you asked how my apartment search is going, and it is going well. Thanks for asking! I just have to make a decision, and it seems to be coming down to which metro line do I want to live near. Or maybe the decision is do I want a generic always-raising-rent apartment tower (which is more expensive to begin with)or to rent a condo from a guy moving to, ironically, astoria! I think I’m going with Mr. Astoria’s condo.

Great article on the state of the union addresses. I worked with a very shy dog when I was at a very impressionable age (around 12, i think i was), and I learned a lot about body language, and how sensitive they are to it, and how I had to pay attention to my own so I wasn’t projecting stress and anxiety that would make her shyness more extreme in social situations. Anyway, I became very sensitive to body language, and guess what I learned? Humans lie. Constantly. Little wonder I chose a career interacting with bits and bytes instead of people.

heh. captcha says “human”. i’m about to have a career crisis if captcha is right!

  3. I am still catching up from last night...Jordan says that the Chinese shoot-down of its own satellite should be protested. That reminds me of the calls that have been coming in to C-span calling for the fire-bombing of Baghdad “just like we did in Dresden”.  I don’t get it. Am I missing something here?

About O’Reilly...I watch him quite often because I think that it is important to understand where so many get their mis-information. Last week O’Reilly sent a film crew to my tiny town to attempt to interview a judge and also the editor of the local newspaper. The film footage looked like a 60 Minutes expose’ with the editor rushing into his car in an attempt to get away from the cameras.  My take on O’Reilly is that he is in constant pursuit of ratings. He sent the film crews here because it was a case involving child sex abuse. Sex sells. If it bleeds it leads. Too bad O’Reilly won’t acknowledge the deaths of the Iraqi children. They also have a right to life.

Democracy Now is good today. Right now Bert Sacks, the man who in 1997 took humanitarian aid to Iraq, is on.  I believe that he was tried for his efforts. That is proof of what this government thinks about the people in Iraq. The usa should recognize that the Iraqi people have a right to life.

  4. I forgot to say Hi Mickey, James, and Deb.

If Bill was really “fair and balanced” he would have Bert on.

  5. Hey RMJ and thanks for that link. I didn’t know about Bert Sacks’ case. I’ll have to listen to DN when I get home tonight. Sounds like it will be a good one.

Just started looking at his blog, too, which looks really good: http://bertoniraq.blogspot.com/

  6. Hello Expendables. It’s not too chilly today...for January, that is.

James: For what it’s worth, Walken is from Astoria.

Deb: That’s great news, re: your apt. hunt. Good luck.

RMJ: The O’Reilly article was satire.

  7. Good morning Expendables,

I first found that Walken for 2008 jive about a year ago, as I recall there was such a response to that his PR folks had to publicly state that it was not his intent to run for office.  Following on Deb’s remarks, how much worse could it be having him in public office?  At least the guy’s got a sense of humour.

Deb, I also found your mention of human behaviour and body language very interesting.  It’s also something I’ve noticed interacting with (non-human) animals.
Brings to mind the quote about humans being judged by the manner in which they treat other animals; a human who cannot interact with a sensitised animal probably has an equally difficult time displaying sympathy, let alone empathy toward other humans.

I’ll bet O’Reilly has a dog who obeys out of fear. (if he has any animal companion at all) Anything more independant minded would be out of the question.

    I’m feeling rambly I suppose.

  8. Hi James, Deb, and Amelopsis.

Mickey # 6...I knew that. I don’t think that he would find many fans here, but I do have an O’reilly story. Bill and Me---a while back I was contacted by his producers. They wanted me to be on the program to “balance” Bill’s view of Ward Churchill. They offered to transport me (my car was broken) to Albany which is the location of the nearest Fox station. I agreed to go. After arrangements were made, they cancelled me out because Gov Owens, a harsh critic of WC, agreed to go on the program. There was no balance. No one supported WC on the air that night. No fairness and no balance, but I still think that it should be watched sometimes. It helps explain the pathology in our culture.

  10. RMJ - I would have LOVED to see you on the O’Reilly factor!  (we would all have pitched in for the brass polish too, I’m sure!)

  11. Thanks, JOS. I was invited to do 15 minutes on the Alan Colmes syndicated radio program shortly after the Bill thing. They kept me on air for about an hour. They just couldn’t shut me up. Radio producers like me. They can go out and do their laundry and when they get back, I’m still talking. The topic was Churchill this time also. It was an interesting program. I took calls from listeners.

  12. Amelopsis...I think I could use a little of that brass polish these days. Life can have a very tarnishing effect sometimes.

  14. What a despicable man this O’Reilly is!  Thanks for dissecting him, Mickey - thanks for all you do.
When we touched down in San Francisco on 24 March 2003 and turned on the TV on in our hotel room, we were greeted by a tirade from, you guessed it, Bill O’Reilly who really had it in for all those who had opposed the quite illegal war on Iraq and dared to still oppose it.  It stopped this woman right in her tracks - she had been unpacking at the time.

Hello, James, Deb, Rosemarie, Amelopsis and JOS - good to be in your company.  Things are warming up again in Daylesford, but really high temperatures are still a week away - it will be about 76F today, which is close to perfect!

    Ciao amici,
    Helga

  15. Rosemarie #3:  ‘That reminds me of the calls that have been coming in to C-span calling for the fire-bombing of Baghdad “just like we did in Dresden”.  I don’t get it. Am I missing something here.’ Is that really true?  I am German by birth, so that rings a certain bell.

Here the gay writer and activist Mike Signorile is sparring with Bill O’Reilly:

  16. Hi Helga...Yes, that is really true and it has been happening a lot lately. I heard it on the radio on Sunday and on C-span a few times. There are people in the usa who believe that the killing of civilians is a good thing, as long as it is their civilians and not our civilians. The call to drop nuclear weapons and/or fire bomb civilian centers is common. This is the usa. We get to do anything we want because we are the best. Winning is all that matters. We must preserve our honor at all cost. As the liberal talk show host on the Albany station said on Sunday, “Those people are different from us. They don’t mind being killed.” The proof is that since March 20, 2003 we killed more than 650,000 civilians in Iraq and there is no outrage in the usa.

Nothing to add to that, Rosemarie except:  good to know that there are Americans like you who keep speaking truth to power.  And that was a LIBERAL talk show host?  The mind boggles ...

  18. In previous SOTU speeches Bush mentioned 9/11 many, many times. (Last year I tried to keep track but he said 9/11 so many times that I lost count). I don’t know if that will be true tonight. He may want to take some of the focus off foreign policy and try to win our hearts and minds by promising us health care, tax cuts, a chicken in every pot, and life everlasting. I heard that even Barney is mad at him.
