USA = United States of Aggression

Posted by Mickey Z on 02/07 at 04:56 AM
  1. Painful little article. I had to take a break and come back to it. Second half is no easier. And I thought April was the cruelest month.

FYI, I just posted something about RMJ.

  2. This is THE way to start off the day: Reading RMJ’s testimony in open court was a breath of fresh air to me. Thanks Keir for linking it on your blog!

  3. Good morning, Mickey. I have always thought of the slaughter in Iraq as just a symptom. The illness is usa foreign policy and capitalism. If it wasn’t Iraq, it would have been Venezuela. It is wasn’t for oil, it would have been for water or broccoli. The point is that Iraq is just a distraction, 650,000+ horrific distractions. The real problem is the ongoing U.S. aggression against every living thing on the planet. Your article points all of that out very well. Thanks for another good one.

David and Keir...thanks. Keir, a special thanks for that. No newspaper in Vermont has ever published my courtroom statement. It was written in bed, in the middle of the night, the night before the sentencing. Even now, a few years later I am still satisfied with what I said. I always did do my best work in bed...writing that is.

  4. Morning all.

I could never figure out why so many Americans think military aggression is so good and right, bestowed upon them and supported by the Almighty.  The mentality of let’s bomb them before they do it to us seems to be more or less accepted as the norm.  Countries with a more peaceful attitude are derided and mocked as being ‘pussies & whimps’, who depend on the military might of the U.S. to protect their sorry asses.

The unbridled pride Americans have for their country seems excessive at times, especially now, with thousands dead and dying on foreign soil.

How can a nation who constantly calls itself ‘the Number One country on earth’ condone this behavior?

  7. Morning all. Woke up to snow, but just enough to be cosmetic.

Awesome blog post Keir, and awesome courtroom statment rmj. Also aweswome, and incredibly disturbing, article Mickey.

Canadian Observer, I hear what you’re saying. I hear it more keenly because growing up, I was exactly what you’re describing. I don’t know what to attribute it to other than conditioning. It is odd, now, when I look back at it. We’re hammered with this idea of being “proud to be american”, though, without any sort of analysis behind what exactly america should stand for to make us proud.

I have another ani quote I think y’all will appreciate: “The system gives you just enough to make you think that you see change.”

Odd tidbit, reminded by listening to Monday’s Democracy Now on Nader - I grew up in his hometown. No one liked him, it is true (was mentioned on one of those knee-jerk sites mickey posts to sometimes), and I never once heard a reason why. Isn’t it funny that until hearing one of the clips on DN I didn’t know that he was arab-american? Almost all white town, arab-american who leaves town to become successful. I know for a fact that it is a very racist town.  Suddenly I understand!

  8. Hello Expendables...from a very wintry Astoria. Great to see such a big turnout this early in the day.

I wanted to share an e-mail I got in response to today’s article. It seems some words are missing but this is how it reads:

country in the world if your foreign dirty stinking ass doesn’t like it.And take your disgusting family with you.I hope you and your family are executed by an American so you can really have a reason to cry you little bitch You are a little dick sucking faggot. Why don’t you lr\eave my country, the bes

Trust me, that’s nothing compared to the liberal response to my most recent animal rights article. Tune in tomorrow for that.

    Same sentiments, better spelling, Mickey?

Seem to remember RMJ raising the case of the Chagos Islanders a while back. Wouldn’t you know it, our scummy government is fighting that high court ruling in the islanders favour. Check out those arguments and remind yourselves that the US is the biggest and nastiest rat in the sewer, but not the only one.

  11. Mickey I hope you’ve notified Lancet - it’s quite a feat to have a ‘foreign ass’ attached to your domestic body!  Does it need special clearance when you travel by air?

It’s quite frightening how some people will be motivated by hate to send vitriolic and unintelligent messages like that one while little else will motivate them to action (for good, that is).

Thanks for reminding us of these horrid February Facts.

Like any atrocity or injustice, it’s natural to want to ‘look away’ from the ugliness of it; the only possible way we’ll ever evolve beyond these same actrocities and injustices is to look them squarely in the face.

PS: I’ve determined that upon the inception of the NUtI, you’ll be in charge of re-writing our history books in the name of fairness and accuracy.

  20. I like that, Zen…

It’s almost funny how fragile civilization (or authority/goverment/etc) is when you think about it.

There’s something about you, Zen, that makes me want to find out more...do any writing?

Mick, I’ve already got em right here:

They’re not quite as popular as Daily KOS, but I never was very good at being popular anyway.

  21. A man walks into a dentist’s office and says, “Excuse me, can you help me. I think I’m a moth.” The dentist says, “You don’t need a dentist. You need a psychiatrist.” The man replies, “Yes, I know.” The dentist snaps back, “So why did you come in here?” The man says, “The light was on.”

  23. Hi all...this will be brief. My e-mail is coming in too fast right now (important stuff happening) and I will return in a little while but want to say,

Mew #9...that is one of my projects that I have fallen behind on. Just too much happening in my life but the issue of Diego Garcia needs a lot more exposure. The silence of the world on that crime against humanity is mind boggling. The usa and gb managed to keep the secret for a long time.

    JOS...That is magnificent!

  25. Thanks for another history lesson from a true American patriot, Mickey!  Thanks for all you do - on your blog and elsewhere.

Am only calling in for a few minutes because I have some things to do around the house, but wanted to comment briefly at least.

And before I forget:  warm greetings to my fellow expendables Keir, David, Rosemarie, Deb, Canadian Observer, Mew, Amelopsis, JOS, Zen Prole and Owen from a reasonably warm Daylesford.

  26. well, i must say it is nice to be back among scottish monkeys rather than monkeys in exile.

my head is still completely up my ass from the travelling but hello to everyone again.

  31. “Anti-war celebrity,” huh?

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 02/07  at  07:27 PM
  32. “Arguments relating to the war” . . . not “Arguments against the war”. Gotta love the morally ambivalent tone of that editorial. Just like I wrote in my blog post, it’s all about wasting the court’s time and taxpayer dollars, not what Rosemarie actually did and why . . .

. . . as though the continuing occupation of Iraq wasn’t “wasting taxpayer dollars”. As though Rosemarie’s point doesn’t bear repeating until the corpses stop piling up. Fucking hell.

    Welcome back to yurp, Michael.

  33. It seems to me there was a lot of sarcasm in that editorial...."the severity of the crime...”
The official press release from the government that announced that I would not be retried said, “...it is apparent that she (me) is using this proceeding to announce her personal political beliefs....” My answer, if I had the opportunity to give one, would be that every time the government drops a bomb in a civilian area it is announcing its political beliefs. I think that the powers that be are a little mad at me.

  35. RMJ, Like you’re going to be upset because they ripped the soap box out from under you. Some soap box that was. Anyway, I’m happy for you that it’s finally over.

Helga, I’m real jealous of all the warmth your having. I’m not giddy over global warming but the warm weather from earlier this winter was really nice but still a bit scary.

Mickey, great article as always. I never realized February was such a violent month. I guess I picked a bad month to be born in.

I hope everyone has a nice evening!

Keir: Well said. Isn’t it just grand that “taxpayer dollars” becomes a worthwhile line of reasoning in RMJ?

  37. Mickey, The 16th. It’s also my son’s birthday.

That monkey movie bothers me. It makes everything seem so insignificant since we’re all just Monkeys.

  39. I’m weird, David, but I’m proud to be a monkey.

Have you ever watched films of monkeys in the wild?  This is for anyone.  Ever seen an obese monkey?  How about a starving monkey?  Ever seen a monkey draging his bright red ass to a 12 hour a day job (yes, I know, that’s a baboon with the red ass).  How about cavities?  Don’t they have brilliant white teeth?  On line at the supermarket? I could go on and on...but I miss those day’s filled with monkey business.
