It’s only Iraq and Roll (but we seem to like it)

  1. Happy Birthday David and son!

“The times they are a changin”, on that topic, it would help if some gave support to William Arkin. He is under serious attack. Even General Electric got into the fray. I believe that Arkin’s most serious offense was that he referred to some of the usa military as mercenaries. As long as those who do speak out are left with very little support...well what can I say. I keep thinking of the MLK quote that michael puts up, “In the end it is not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends that really matters.”

And on a personal note, I am still snowed in and will be running out of drinking water in a day or two. I could start melting snow but I think that I will come up with a more creative plan.

Dr B, from last night. Garner was voted the top jazz pianist way back. When I first heard his “Concert by the Sea” it was a life-changing experience for me. That album was recorded 50 years ago, and is still considered to be one of the best by many. My favorite on the album is titled, “How Could You Do a Thing Like That to Me”. Great title.

  2. Hello Expendables. The weather outside is frightful...but again, not on a Vermont level. I wish I could offer more than moral support, RMJ.

As for Arkin, I’ll try to read more about his situation so I can help spread the word. I will be in Texas for a few days next week so it might have to wait until after that.

  3. Btw, here’s your daily laugh from the Daily Kos:

  4. There were actually a couple fairly intelligent comments, though of course they have nothing to do with what you wrote, and more trying to keep people focused on what you wrote. What is it with the people there that they’re more concerned with someones freaking screen name than in having a dialog about issues? fun, mickey!

rmj thanks for the heads up on arkin. I’ll write to the washington post and to him directly with my support. any other ideas for what we can do to support him?

Morning all! Sunny and cold enough here that the frozen snow on my truck is still hanging around, but at least I got out with no hassle this morning.

    Happy birthday David and son!

  5. Read the Kos comments. A lot of honesty there. Whether they know it or not, most of the commenters there post from the point of view that it’s a site dedicated to following the Democrat Party line.

And the name calling and non-comments show where that gets you.

Chinese New Year tommorow. Tomorrow night is the one for celebrations and fireworks. It goes fairly nuts here in Shanghai. Lucky me living here, I get two year’s every time.

  6. This bears repeating:

"Reality check: The excuse of ignorance is not valid when graphic images are available within minutes. It’s not lack of knowledge; it’s denial...or perhaps even acquiescence. There are no innocent bystanders when our money and/or rhetoric support the world’s most powerful military and the corporate status quo. But if we just keep telling ourselves it’s all Bush’s fault, we can sleep better...our innocence wrapped around us like a big white SUV."

DailyK commentors seem to enjoy wallowing in semantics regardless of whether or not they’re pertinent to the conversation.

(and apparently you’re daring to post an article and not join their semantic slug-fest, Mickey...what were you thinking?!)

Sunny day to everyone, and RMJ I hope you’re able to enjoy the snow despite all the travail it’s causing you.  Stay warm and safe!

  7. Greetings everyone.

I feel sorta bad piling on these Daily Kos people… it’s a bit like making fun of the disabled. But I thought this comment was particularly truthful:

“Dude had to wait for a walk signal because of car traffic, and described it as “totalitarian.”

I’d fail a high school student who wrote something so stupid.”

I’d say that’s pretty much why we are where we’re at.

If you post this Kid Rock piece there, I’m sure the comments would just be “Well, Kid Rock is just a redneck! Post something relevant, coolobserver!”

    sigh…

  8. Yeah, I’m done. My stuff is all over the place and it’s impossible for me to keep up with comments. When I do, I end up laughing myself into depression.

Time for a break and to conjure up something new.

  9. Congratulations, David!  Best wishes to Mom and the little guy.  Tell your friends and relatives, no cute outfits, just diapers and wipes!

  10. Unless he’s past that stage!  Heh.  Happy B-day anyway.

  11. Greetings, Expendables.

I’ve been laying low for several days, in response to the “news.” To call the latest crop of Democratic caves, 168-alarm climate bulletins, and the ongoing failure to lock the top five levels of Administration officials straitjacketed into small rooms, crazy, is like saying there’s water in the Atlantic Ocean (of decreasing salinity, of course).

Then there’s the herd at DailyKos. Since when is shooting the messenger an Olympic sport? I’d bet that the Democratic party puts the faces of its plebian supporters on golf balls, for use at uber-ritzy, no-blacks-women-or-jews country clubs. “Senator, that one’s in the rough. Hit another, there’s plenty more where that came from.”

It’s times like these I take great comfort that the human race will likely snuff itself by 2150 AD, if not sooner.

The good news? Um, ah, hmmm… Dave Zirin is still writing on sports? http://www.edgeofsports.com

Found a new, signed, hardcover copy of Bill Ayers’ memoir “Fugitive Days” at a remainder store. Not as interesting as the documentary “The Weather Underground,” but some passages give a window into the time and space. Page 228 reads “from early 1969 until the spring of 1970, there were over 40,000 threats or attempts, and 5,000 actual bombings against government and corporate targets in the US, and average of six bombings per day.” This gives me pause, first to (again) question the ineptitude of Baby Boomers (punners beware), then to ask how larger numbers, a weaker government and media machine, and such widespread effort could fail to kill the beast, or at least savagely wound it. Will ponder this some more, then try to gather an answer...there’s a clue lurking, but I don’t like the looks of it. More later.

    Captcha sez “coming.”

  12. Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone.

Yeah Cart, He’s past that stage. He’s 9 today but I would love to go back to his “baby” years but we can’t do that...sigh.

Kid Rock made a statement. Y-A-W-N.

I hope everyone has a great evening!

  13. Not that I had much to begin with, but I just lost complete respect for Kid Rock. Not quite as bad as whats-her-face, “I think we should just do whatever the President says”.

Don’t mind me, just trolling through. Maybe I’ll stop in at KOS and post a troll diary just to stir up some people into a rage. That’s always a good time. For at least ten minutes or so.
