Masters of War
Comin’ out my speakers as I type: “The Moma Dance” by Phish.
My groovy recommendation for the day: “Will It Go Round In Circles” by Billy Preston.
Nothing political, but good, groovy stuff that makes you want to move (or at least bob your head a bit).

http://tinyurl.com/32q32kPosted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 03/12 at 09:28 AMWell I was listening to an animal voices podcast, but I’m now compelled to listen to some Front Line Assembly, specifically “Victim of a Criminal”. I wonder, will we ever learn? How many times do we say “never again” before we figure out how to make sure never again?

So, so good.
Posted by Keir on from the hague 03/12 at 12:35 PMWow, what a coincidence. I have been away from my computer all day and did not see the front page here till now. I was thinking about “it” from yesterday. I came to the conclusion that one small thing that should be done is to move protests from NYC to places that manufacture the weapons. Then I see that Mickey has this up today.
“...Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks...”
What can I say, great minds thinks alike! One of the big mistakes that the liberals have been making is placing all of the blame on the government. ALL parts of the war machine should be resisted and protested against. That is not happening because the liberals are afraid of offending fellow citizens. I know how hard it is to get a resistance going against workers in death factories. I have tried. Only the local Chapter of VFP was willing to publicly resist a local plant that manufactures arming devices for torpedoes. The local Peace Group opted out - as have all of the national peace groups when it comes to holding the military responsible for its part in the killing. If the anti-war groups really wanted the killing to stop they would be blocking the plant entrances at Raytheon, GE, Lockheed Martin, etc. Robert Fisk says that those who have been the victims of usa weapons should bring lawsuits against the manufacturers. I agree with him, except that that does not work. The victims of agent orange are still trying to get a little justice from usa courts. Maybe we should look upon those who work in the death factories the same way that smokers are being looked upon (apologies to all who still smoke, I did for more than 30 years). I never thought that I’d see the day that there was a social revolt against smoking. It happened relatively quickly. The rule is, if you finance, manufacture, transport, or use weapons of war, you are a merchant of death.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/12 at 03:25 PMSorry, I forgot my manners again. Hi Keir, Deb, Robert, and Jeremy.
Mickey, how are both Moms?Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/12 at 03:29 PMHello Expendables...from humid Texas.
RMJ: Michele’s mom is home recovering. It seems the worst is over for her. My mom is also home. The first round of her new treatment is done and now she’s dealing with the inevitable side effects. Too early to tell much else but her spirits are high and we’re making sure we have some fun while I’m here.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Dubya Land 03/12 at 04:09 PMMickey, I bet that “you” are the best medicine for your Mom.
Also, Ward Churchill said the same thing as the Dylan lyrics. Dylan received praise. WC was beaten up. That shows the direction this country is headed in.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/12 at 04:14 PMI’m in an internet cafe and the music is so lame it could be any number of groups. This afternoon had some friends over for lunch and the soundtrack to the film “Black Cat White Cat”. Lately lots of Hungarian folk, rebetika (Greek outlaw music, lyrics mostly about smoking fistfuls of hashish and missing girls on the other side of an ocean), tango and some strange and choppy cartoon-style metal.
Mickey, warm wishes and ruddy health to both mothers.
Posted by owen on from schmarcelona 03/12 at 05:02 PMFor some reason I’ve been listening to/ watching one of the dopeiest old 70’s Bowie videos ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X9Kqa7gEUY&NR
But Dylan really is the man. When my book club meets to discuss Fear and Trembling next week, I’ll have Highway 61 playing the whole time.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/12 at 06:54 PMHowdy, Expendables, from a warming New England. 55 today, 60 tomorrow.
Today I’m listening to the voices in my head (what boring conversation!), but recently I’ve been listening to The Cars catalog. By about 1990 I realized that Candy-O (1979) is one of the best R&R records ever, and still think so: range, wit, period pieces and timeless stuff, nuance and roar. Panorama (1980) really isn’t very good, but you can hear their future sound and direction. Bands rarely develop these days- they go in the microwave for 90 seconds. (Thanks, Corporate America!)
What I want to listen to is the upcoming Rage performance in California (April 29). And definitely some more stimulating inner voice-overs.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 03/12 at 07:43 PMI hear that, Zen. Dangerous Type and Moving in Stereo are some serious tunes.
No Christian rock, though? Some of it’s on sale for really deep discounts… oh yeah, so at work today I worked on that section of the BMG catalogue. Damn surreal. Who knew there was such a big market for that stuff?
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/12 at 08:06 PMBest wishes to both Moms and you too Mickey. Don’t run yourself ragged. Make sure you are getting some rest. I’m getting ready to listen to some Nickleback. I know they’re mainstream but they’ve got a great sound.
Peace!
Posted by David on from Louisville KY 03/12 at 09:25 PMAnd now for something completely different, Mickey: at this moment, I am listening to an oratorio by GF Handel, but I have been listening to the Dylan song on war many times. Thanks for giving us the whole text on this post.
And ‘hi’, Jeremy, Robert B. Livingston, Deb, Keir, Rosemarie, Owen, Zen Prole, James and David. Have a good afternoon/night, all of you!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 03/12 at 09:42 PMOops! James, I hope I didn’t help anyone slip into Youtube purgatory.
When someone suggests a good video, somehow I end up watching hours of the Banana Splits or clever cats. Can’t quite explain my fascination with it!
When I was a kid “psychadelic” was cool. This morning I watched a little kid play with a kaleidoscope for the first time. (She was lolling about with a pit bull which was about as kinetic as a rock at rest.)
Naive pleasures always seem the best. Of course subtle pleasures have their merit… like meditating on a Brice Marden landscape.
The sun goes down the sun comes up. There’s always something happening.
So glad to hear that hurdles have been overcome Mickey.
Best wishes from here.
Posted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 03/12 at 09:44 PMAnd I have forgotten my manners as well: best wishes to both Mums from me as well. And I agree with Rosemarie: you would be the best medicine for you Mom, Mickey!
