  1. *crickets*

I think you’ve damaged our psyches with that one, Mickey!

    Morning all.

frances, I’ve been thinking about the link you provided last night to the video work that was done about the impact of drugs on that communty. Disturbing. I’m going to be thinking about that one a while longer.

RMJ, hope you’re dug out or getting help with it.

captcha tells me “six”. should i be worried?

  4. For some reason, Frances, I felt compelled to post this:

  5. lol, mickey, I don’t think you went too far, I think that ad for b.s. is so over the top that we’re left speechless!

and for the vhemt, I find the irony of the double meaning brings a smile to my face: “Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.”

  6. Hey Expendables.

Today’s post reminded me immediately of this.

I followed frances’ link, weeded through the crazy stuff, and got to this. A reminder of something I had already been aware of.

Then Mickey’s vhemt link got me looking around, and I found this.

So much stuff in one little computer!

  8. Interesting article in the Washington Post:

BAGHDAD, March 19—Dozens of insurgents wielding machine guns surrounded the police station before dawn Monday in Duluiyah, a majority Sunni town about 45 miles north of Baghdad. The five officers on duty walked out, hands to the dark sky, and waited to be executed.

But instead of firing, the insurgents’ leader spoke: Repent, he commanded, or die.

“So we swore to quit the police and support the Islamic State of Iraq,” recalled Mohammad Hashmawi, one of the police officers, referring to a militant Sunni organization active in many parts of the country.

Apparently content, the insurgents stole the officers’ decrepit weapons and the station’s communications equipment, blew up the building and released the officers. A similar scene played out simultaneously at another police station in the town, said police Capt. Hussein al-Jaburi. It was the fifth police station in the town to be destroyed by Sunni extremists in two weeks, he said, leaving just three standing.

  9. I have no idea how this relates...but it brought a laugh to my day and I will share it here.
a short tale as told by Idries Shah.
A Mulla who had not lived a good life - he was a hypocrite who always dressed as an ascetic - died and found himself in the nether regions.

A demon came up to him, looked briefly at a list, and then said, “you are 90% sinner, not a 100% one.  That means that you get a choice of torments.”

“What does that mean?” asked the Mulla.

“It means,” said the demon, “that you follow me and we inspect the various tortures and you take your pick.”

So saying, he led the Mulla down a long corridor, with doors on both sides.  In the first room, whose door was opened, people were being fed red-hot coals; in the second, they were being torn limb from limb, and so on.  “There is bound to be a better one, somewhere,” thought the Mulla, and so he declined each and every one of the torments.

Then the demon opened another door.  Inside that room the Mulla saw a man dressed as an ascetic, sitting at a table, gobbling down delicious-looking strawberries.

“Yes!  That’s the one.  That’s the torment I want!” shouted the Mulla.

The demon took out his list and consulted it. “Room 599...No, I’m sorry, there has been a mistake.  That’s the room reserved for eternally torturing the strawberries!”

and now I am off to work for the day.  Enjoy the conversing.

  17. Ah, but you forget one thing, Ghost: If I didn’t make the occasional Britney Spears or Paris Hilton post, I’d have practically no traffic at all.

  18. Mick, 27,562 people can’t be wrong, so the Alien Spaceman Jesus, must be right.

  23. Thank you very much. Coming from Mickey’s commentors, that is quite the compliment. I’m a regular reader since Michael at Spontaneous Arising urged us to visit here. Not always a regular commentor as I sometimes get intimidated (it’s a me thing)by the level of discourse. I come here to have my sense of activism (and it is at a rather low point right now) re-activated. And to have my “good intentions” justifiably questioned as good intentions ain’t gonna git us outta dis mess.

  24. Alien Spaceman Jesus reminds me of a crazy anti-semitic book I read once, I think it was called - hang on, have I posted this story before? Oh, nevermind. Hello everyone.

  29. Thanks for the link Deb.
what I see in that ad is that it is the product of human logical thought. It just goes no where except back inside of itself.  Like that serpent, and the snow donut. Cloning for peace is another brilliant example of logic.
Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ranks as my personal fav today.  Thanks for the giggle.
