Support our (sic) mercenaries...I mean, our (sic) troops

Posted by Mickey Z on 03/23 at 05:22 AM
  1. Information Clearing House linked to a YouTube video today of Ron Paul explaining why he will vote no for another appropriations bill for Iraq. He frankly addresses the matter of “supporting” the troops.

We all have much work to do and a tremendous responsibity to act from our most basic values.
To act on behalf of our neighbouring communities right here at home.
Turn off your tvs and computers and get to know your neighbours, my friends.
Stop waiting around for someone else to solve your problems for you.
Recognize that people do what they do because they think/believe it a “good” thing to do at that moment.
    Its about Ignorance.

  4. I agree with Frances of British Columbia...americans are like a bicycle chain that has not been made yet...many links, isolated, alienated, no understanding of interconnectedness, strangers, no understanding we are made of all the same stuff, all the same feelings, all the same pain...not acting because we are not emotional, intellectually, philosophically, metaphysically linked! Flesh covered machines programmed to obey, comply......>

  5. Hello Expendables...from a rainy but warm NYC.

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: I do not consider any of my blog posts complete until some of the Expendables have weighed in with comments, addendums, corrections, etc., e.g. this crucial point: the mercenaries are also not subject to the rules of the geneva convention

  6. which means they can do all sorts of things that the soldiers can’t, or at least, shouldn’t

  8. Okay, the question, support the criminals, the soldiers, the mercenaries, the goons, the freaks, the barbarians, write and rewrite laws at will...the only support for ‘our troops’ is stop the war, prosecute the war criminals and the accomplices, which means our entire politcal body, the star spangled mofia, the parasites taking a lifetime bagel break at taxpayer expense...the dysfunction of humans in this universe fore the information needed to transcend this stupidity was destroyed for the most part by the church...the state...the military...but it can still be found! Prosecute NOW...impeach later.

  9. I’m with Joe of Maine. I want see all of these bastards in the dock at The Hague...I wantto see them packed a dozen to a holding cell. An international trial of all these bastards might, just might, begin to restore the world’s faith in us.

But would it bring about the beginning of major change here?

  10. Good questions, all. Last year, I wondered if all such breakthroughs would have any impact at all.

  12. Any change that has ever happened in my own puny mundane existance has occured as a direct result of me getting off my butt and taking action.
We can have our ideal utopian vision of where we would like our action to take us...but sometimes doing anything positive is better than doing nothing at all.
I remain an advocate for action at a grass roots level.  Start with your own neighbourhood and work outward.
Hugs and smiles for our family and friends brings encouragement too.
    captcha says “party”......hmmmm

  13. Hi all...great topic here today, as usual. Jeremy Scahill’s book was discussed by him and Amy on Democracy Now recently. He might have said that there are 150,000 private contract killers in Iraq now. Yes, they have been used in the usa. There is no real oversight of the crimes that they committ and I believe that they are not even under the Dept of Offense. They might come under The State Department with no restrictions or oversight on what they do. Those in power know all of the tricks to get around the law. No law applies to them. Even if ALL of the troops came home immediately it would not solve the problem. The usa has secret armies all over the planet. Until the Black Budget is eliminated these atrocities will continue. No one has oversight. Not the Congress. NO ONE.

I’m with Joe #8...prosecute now, impeach later.

As far as which group deserves our support, I think that the civilians under attack during an illegal occupation should be supported. The invaders should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Wearing a uniform does not give anyone the right to kill civilians. Not wearing a uniform, such as the secret armies, gives no rights either. The hypocrisy of the usa is mind-boggling. We prosecute people because they cross “our” border to get a job, while we at the same time send armies to cross other borders and slaughter civilians.

  15. I for one find it deeply hurtful, offensive, and borderline treasonous that you would cast aspersions on our brave mercenaries in a time of war.

Thanks to you and your ilk, Benedict Z., the Islamofascists are on their way to victory.

  16. Very well said RMJ

  17. Comment #15 has to be from an impostor. The real Hannity never takes the time to listen to anyone else so I am sure he would not take the time to read what anyone else has to say about anything.

It was rat poison!!! and it could just as easily get into the human food supply. Too bad that family farms have been replaced with factory farms and now the sick chickens, and sick cats and dogs are coming home to roost. Capitalism kills cats, dogs, chickens, and humans.

  18. RMJ, I’m guessing its an imposter with a sense of humour Sean Hannity’s mother wishes he had. Terrible genetic mistakes might have been avoided.

  20. I signed the petition for Nader on the principle that Nader should be able to run if he wants to and because I thoroughly trust him.

However I was disappointed that my requestewd comment was not included on the petition, nor was it approved for dissemination by GDI (Greens for Democracy and Independence-- a group I have been a member of which I believe has long lost its focus over unresolved squabbles between Demo-greens and real supporters of a democratic Green Party).

More than any other person, save possibly Peter Camejo, Nader has always stood for what I believe in.  If my views are unaddressed by anyone else in 2008, of course I will support him as always!

However, if my deepest wish were to come true-- I would prefer to see Cynthia McKinney run for president.  I completely endorse her and I believe she can be much more effective than Nader for many reasons. I would love to see her run an effective third party campaign that would bring every honest and patriotic American together to “take America back” and return it to a path of fairness and progress and a respectful role as a peacemaker in international affairs.

I would love to see the creation of a consortium of wise and engaged citizens enthused with such a project-- and I would love to see Nader take a lead in this effort.

I received an email from GDI asking-- who is Cynthia McKinney?  I think it is time that we all learn who she is.  She is America’s brightest political star.

  23. I signed the petition endorsing Nader as well, Robert. Ralph Nader and Cynthia Mckinney will make an awesome team. What a fantastic idea.
