Shooting rampages: the real real thing?

Posted by Mickey Z on 04/23 at 04:24 AM
  1. that post on the Bogdanovich movie got me going: I feel sometimes the difference between what I write, story or song, and what I live can be negligible, having had too many instances of writing something and then later finding myself in those exact circumstances. It’s why I’ve been moving away from ghoulish black satires lately in favour of something more gentle. Writing or composing is a powerful form of invocation.

  2. Hello Expendables...from a very warm and sunny Astoria.

Owen: I was beginning to wonder where you were…

  3. So...we have the individual who doesn’t know who he/she is...social brainwashing too powerful and long lasting...becoming who they are not...then becoming an actor, author, becoming perhaps the 3rd person...seems confusing...how to tell what is real from what isn’t real...who defines what is real? The wealthy? Then we have the system for the wealthy, by the wealthy, defined by the wealthy. Metaphors, symbolism of so many kinds...confusing to me...I need some clarity occasionally...so I sit in meditation, with a good cigar of course, at the base of a tree, feel grounded...I am I, I exist

  4. As novelist Chuck Palahniuk sez: “Reality means you live until you die. The real truth is nobody wants reality.”

  5. Hi Owen, Mickey, Joe.
This is why I stopped reading Stephen King a long time ago. On a level where we are cocreators of reality why add further distortions to the disharmony.  Of course some have a perfectly diabolical reason for doing just that...fearful people are easier to manipulate.
Balancing what I view and read daily has become a major concern for me.  The only sane response I can come up with is Action, otherwise whats the point in being informed, I ask myself.
I am taking my concerns for the people of Iraq to my local political representative.  I am going to ask her why no one is doing anything to stop this crime.  I mean the people in the government haave to know whats going on....and if they know why arent they doing anything about it.
It may be lame but its a place to start...for me.
Joe: I googled ‘Ouspensky...optimism’ yesterday and I ended up here:  http://tinyurl.com/yq2syz
I had to download firefox (free) to open the site.

  6. Hi Frances...stephen king is from Maine...that’s as much as I intend to know about him. The link you sent concerning P.D Ouspensky...sent my computer into a fit??? So...try googling 4th Way Thinking...G.I. Gurdjieff...P.D. Ouspensky by itself...most of this will feel vague and yet familiar...there’s a reason for this...I think we have to stop talking about the past, which includes, patriarchal, hierarchical governments..all medieval stuff...I think we must keep this crap out of our consciousness as much as possible...habits...too easy to perpetuate all this crap we generally refer to as reality...the REAL reality is who we are if ‘all this’ never happened...I feel humans are innately ‘good’ when allowed to live in accordance with natural laws...people might want to debate this...they can, I don’t participte in debates...I don’t have the intellectual horse-power nor do I need to prove I have a penis!

  8. Well Frances...I went to that site...nice photo of a naked lady...however...various teachings to develop consciousness can be found...however #2, it’s not that easy...it’s not learning from reading, although some correct reading can provide a glimpse into possibilities...plus it will take your mind off of war criminals and wars for economics of the wealthy and their lifestyles only...and will enable one to see we can transcend all this medieval barbarism. Some facts have more impact, more importance at various times...our receptance to...particles in space in proximity to each other and various intervals...etc.

  9. A couple things I liked from that link, Frances: One of Jung’s favorite quotes on Synchronicity was from Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, in which the White Queen says to Alice:

“It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backwards.”
    And,

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” Einstein

    On Synchronicity
First of all, I’m no “professional.” But this is the way I see it.  It’s our own history of human consciousness trying to recalibrate our priorities with these little reminders.  These situations don’t just manifest out of nowhere.  The pysche is imbalanced and the present immersion of thougths from our memory, in past and future forms, is here to help us.  This is here to help us because we react according to our emotions and this memory flood is telling us to give great attention to simple conceptual truths, i.e. the golden rule, etc.  In essence, the Big Truth, which is balance of mind, prosperity.  We’re involved in a time of enlightenment but the process can’t unfold unless we learn to recognize and accept a broader explanation of how our memory works, FIRST AND FOREMOST.  The ultimate goal is to utilize this rediscovered apprection of simple conceptual truths in our daily discourse.  At that point we’ll begin to attain a more balanced mindest and be freed from this addiction to hostility.  It starts with educating people about the capability of human memory.  Once intrigued by these facts the culture would likely gravitate to this phenomenon, given the popular trend of the recent New Age genre.

  10. Hi Joe, Frances, Mickey, Owen, and anyone I missed.  Lots of deep philosophical thinking going on here today. I am agnostic about a lot of things so I don’t know what to say except that I think that what anyone believes is much less important than what he does.  If he does good deeds because he believes that God wants him to, or if he is good because he is an atheist and values life now, the end result is the same. I respect someone who believes that God is the elm tree on the corner as much as I respect an atheist. It’s all the same to me. Both have the burden of proof, since both have a defined belief system. The important issue for me, is what people do, not what they believe. Then again, ultimate causality is something I think about a lot but I am not yet convinced that the answer will become known through science.

  12. Hi RMJ, ‘The important issue for me, is what people do, not what they believe.’ I agree. 100%
I wish I was better at writing down my thoughts.
Hi dw, yes that Lewis Carroll quote got me thinking too.
Mickey you had a post a while back about the little positive sayings on boxes of peppermints...how they were primarily an indulgance of the priviledged. This is now a measure I use when weighting the usefulness of much of this type of self-help/new age info. Its a good tool for the weeding through to the real.
Right now I need a whole new tool kit for both thinking and being.
    Oh well...thanks for listening.
Joe, I agree ‘its not learning from reading’....

  13. Hello again, everyone. Frances: Thanks for sparking the conversation here today. The comments section needed a boost.

    Here’s my contribution:

Wittgenstein sez: “Let’s cut out the transcendental twaddle when the whole thing is as plain as a sock on the jaw.”

  14. A most interesting and enlightening post, Mickey.  You know - when I watched the second plane strike the WTC on 9/11, I thought that someone was making a film, only to find out shortly thereafter that this was actually the real thing!

‘Hello’ from down under to Owen in my favourite Spanish city, Joe of Maine, frances, dw and Rosemarie (Welcome back!  Good to have you around again).  Take care, all of you.

  15. Mickey i was just responding to your original post and Owen and Joe’s comments.  I tend to talk around stuff rather than Wittgenstein, who gets directly to the point. My mom called it ‘navel gazing’....like I said I am searching for a new tool kit(-:?

  17. ‘The important issue for me, is what people do, not what they believe.’ I agree. 100%

Rosemarie #10 and frances #12:  I fully agree as well!

And personally I think you are very good at writing down your thoughts, frances!

captcha:  ‘family’.  Warmest regards to the whole expendables family from down under.

  18. Hi Helga.

Frances: I’m with you. I think we all need a tool kit.
