A way of marking time
Good morning Mickey...you said...“Don’t you find it odd that when you’re a kid, everyone, all the world, encourages you to follow your dreams. But when you’re older, somehow they act offended if you even try.”...This thought is somewhat of an irony...early this morning I had a phone conversation...we notice someone growing from birth to an adult...we forget to consider, awareness doesn’t stop happening when we stop growing vertically [and horizontally] I think we forget about our potential to transcend that which has been put into our heads and enabled by us. Possibly really ‘good’ information doesn’t exactly jump out at us plainly to see. Time..Space..Knowledge...what is time?
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/28 at 09:19 AMHello Expendables. The sun and clouds are in the midst of a back-and-forth struggle here.
Joe: The quote you mention isn’t mine but nonetheless, I appreciate your point. Still, what I’m focusing on here today is how everyone talks about following their heart and doing what makes them happy but so few even try. Those that do face not only an uphill battle, but also resentment from their peers.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/28 at 09:40 AMChildhood vs Adult dreams: this is class distilled into toxic clarity. In a related story, hand-wringing over children lacking health insurance continues…
On the drive home from VA, approaching an eighth of a tank, I searched several exits in Connecticut for a CITGO station. None was visible from 95, so I took the next exit and bit the bullet. The next two exits had large, prominent ones. Yo disculparse, mi cameradas!
I’m almost there with the cowbell. Better turn it up to 11. http://tinyurl.com/2p5xvh
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 04/28 at 09:52 AMYes...I know the follow the heart...do what makes you most happy, etc. Seems simple to many people to many...so to find out who we really are…
For some people follow the heart is the only sensible thing to do...others might resent that person for they themselves are at a metaphysical, stuck point, there might be resentment, jealousy, feelings of inferiority, fear of someone not understood, that appears very different...usually if someone is conscious, many who are not can be suspect of this individual who might possess magical information and abilities, blah, blah...witch hunts, general misunderstandings, separateness, does communication help any of this between those who know and ‘follow their dream’ and those who don’t know and only follow authorities or anything other than who they really are and what they would really prefer to do. Should we only do one thing...and should we do this all the time, whether we love it or not...and be sort of out of balance. For me, even if I love something...I don’t want to do it everyday, all day long. Following our dreams might mean living a life with rthyms that are part of the natural environment and not what is observed and or measured [judged] by others…
Posted by Joe of Maine on from 04/28 at 10:06 AMAh, now I understand, Joe. At first, I didn’t get the connections your were making. Excellent points, my friend. And Zen: Thanks for the Spinal Tap vid. I will be re-posting that soon I’m sure.
Okay, sun is out. Time to get outside again.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/28 at 10:39 AMHey Mickey, Joe and Zen.
I quit my (soulsuckingly evil) job with Virgin on thursday. Perhaps I’ve evaded Eleanor Rigby. I fair skipped out of the building. Spent today (a balmy 20 degrees) stretched out in my mates back garden eating burgers, drinking cider, staring at frogs and playing volleyball. I got a keyboard for christmas which I’ve barely touched - I plan to learn that; I’ve got ideas churning in my head for a comic strip - thats getting sketched out over the next week or two. Life outside 9-5 smells suspiciously like - life.

Love that video for Pink Floyd’s Time...anyone else check it out?
Posted by JOS on from Oak Park 04/28 at 06:53 PMCongrats, Mew. Thanks for sharing the good news.
JOS: I’ve been trying hide some treasures in my posts lately.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/28 at 08:09 PMGood evening everyone. This is a brilliant post Mickey, and Joe your commentary has prodded a flood of memory...the unexpected side trips… treasures and tragedies. Its something about most of us being half asleep dreaming as is, and children being closer to themselves. They are real in the dreaming, not so much as we grow into who we think we are.
Really glad this is a 2 day post. More later maybe…
beauty spring day herePosted by frances on from bc, canada 04/28 at 11:53 PMThanks, Frances. I’m thinking about doing this more, i.e. leave a post up for more than one day to allow for more people to read it and to extend conversations. What do you guys think about that?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/29 at 09:34 AMI woke up thinking about a childs dream of the future and the nightmare of war.

Thats a great idea Mickey…Posted by Frances on from bc, canada 04/29 at 09:52 AMThanks Frances for the links...I just read the stories by Lamiya...painfully sad and beautiful...and here I am at work crying...people shouldn’t have to work when reading moving poetry…
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/29 at 10:39 AMHi Mickey, I think leaving a post up for couple of days is not a bad idea.
Frances, nice links, but I “frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning” (Roger Waters).
Cheers.
Posted by Ehtesham on from Canada 04/29 at 11:45 AMJust back from Melbourne, where Mr and Mrs Helga saw an opera and bought a few books. And here is our story, but it is not a happy one:
On Saturday the motor of our car ‘died’ in the middle of St Kilda Road, one of the busiest roads in Melbourne - think 6 lanes of traffic and trams crisscrossing all the time here. Fortunately Alan could start the car within seconds, whereas on previous occasions it took him up to 10 minutes. Btw: we have applied for a car loan but the bank takes its time.
‘Hi’ from a wet Daylesford to Joe of Maine, Zen Prole, Mew, JOS, frances and Ehtesham - and to the ‘Cool Observer’ of course. All your posts contain treasures, Mickey.
Have a good Sunday night, all of you.
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 04/29 at 08:04 PMOh, and if you are interested in listening to what Mark Twain wrote about Australia, you can listen here, or so Helga hopes:

all best to all of you from down under
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 04/29 at 08:10 PMMZ, a post every few days is a good idea. Posting every day is a heavy load & how can you possibly keep up with the uninformed responses?
Of course, you can post more often as time and tide and imperial madness demand.
Captcha sez “pressure.”
