I McPledge allegiance to the McFlag?
Here’s a caption:
Boy: “Despite the fact that I’m in a near catatonic trance-like state from all the sugar and caffeine in the 2 Super Size Cokes I drank today, I can still manage to feel the Big Mac-induced heart palpatations.”Girl: “Wow. Me too.”
Posted by Tim on from Los Angeles County, CA, USA 05/11 at 05:28 AMOops. A bit more than 25 words. My bad. But God Bless McMerica anyhow!
Posted by Tim on from Los Angeles County, CA, USA 05/11 at 05:31 AMCaption: “Heil Heart Disease.”
Safe trip Mickey. And remember: lift with the legs.
Posted by Keir on from the hague 05/11 at 05:40 AMI pledge to contribute to the genocide of all americans. I am committed to corporate america, the medical profession, the pharmaceutical companies, the oil companies, the defense industry, the chemical industries. Genocide is an inherent component of the american economy. We pledge to sicken, to poison, to kill...both quickly and slowly...fore, here in america, we are free to do these things we have come to value so much. So treat your family to some good, ole fashion chicken, basted with our rib tickling, toxic sauce, or try one of our rat burgers. Only the finest rats are used after they leave the laboratories of Merck Inc.
Posted by joe of maine on from 05/11 at 09:29 AMHello Expendables...from an overcast Astoria. It downpoured here this morning and there may be more rain on the way.
Thanks for the early captoin entries. We’re off to a good start.
If Michael shows up today, this is for him:

Posted by James on from work 05/11 at 10:03 AMI’m not going to even try to beat these caption entries…
By the way, how far away are we from this? I know, we’re already there, but these guys are a lot scarier than any I’ve seen here in the US:

Posted by mateo on from SF 05/11 at 11:08 AMHello, Expendables. Captcha just ate my first post.

“We’re covering our pro-union buttons so the suits don’t fire us...yet.”Re: Activism: Nader & Co. have scheduled an anti-corporate thing in DC for June. Though it’s 20 years late, I add my plebian endorsement. Let’s hope the usual suspects (the NYU mafia, etc) don’t morph it into some career exercise. I’ve already seen a few on the speaker list...but don’t see Ted Nace, whose “Gangs Of America” is one of the best books available on corporations.
http://tamethecorporation.org/index.htmlSmall victories: my new place is very peaceful and has a pond. There are many Canada geese, some turtles, and this AM there was a Great Heron. Captcha sez “deep.”
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 05/11 at 12:05 PMHello Frances...your comment yesterday about exploiting EVERYTHING for profits. Making money from social ills but never solving these problems. In fact, I think most problems are exponentially increased by these pathetic bandaiding efforts by limp politicians who could not pull up their own zipper if they had not watched someone else do this. Turning problems into simply ways of making money, exploiting people’s insecurities, etc., is as low as it gets. And so a number of people, logically would see it beneficial to bomb entire countries into oblivion, to create chaos in countries, fuel this chaos, arm this chaos...$$$...yes, very parasitic and predatory...inexcusable by any criteria during anytime there have been uprights on this planet.

Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 05/11 at 04:18 PMJoe: I took some bottles to recycle today and noticed a sign that says that the depot and the diabetes foundation are working together to find a cure for diabetes. I guess that is so they can continue to sell the sugary crap to people...at least that was my first thought. there are lots of good intentions it just that most of them dont work.
RMJ: #14 best caption yet in my humble opinion.Posted by frances on from bc, canada 05/11 at 04:37 PMmickey… re no5. thank you. been thinking some of that for a long number of years. one of my problem s is that it took this long for http://www.wsws.org to mention it.
i have a problem with wsws as a whole given that i am an anarcho-syndicalist
apart from all of that… i will state one of my positions very clearly....
IF THE LAWS AT NUREMBERG WERE APPLIED, TONY BLAIR AND GEORGE BUSH WOULD BE HUNG AS WAR CRIMINALS.
from here i am borrowing here but run with it....
what were they hung for at nuremberg? genocide?
no
mass murder?
no (check it up. no human was put on trial for genocide till the late 90s)
the charge was.... wait for it…
“planning and waging an aggressive war”
ringing any bells yet?
that was deemed to be the one crime that contained all the evils of the gas chambers etc within it. therefore.. that was their excuse for not putting a lot of people in germany on trial at time.
how much are we culpable for what is happening now?
Posted by michael on from scotland 05/11 at 07:15 PMits very rare that i would ever amount a statist position but i don’t believe in the death penalty but i want those two amongst a whole deal of other fuckers in jail.
just getting them out of power isnt enough, tho it would be a good start.
on the should be in jail list i also include gore (complicity or at least acquiescence in the bombing of sudan, oil for food program etc) thatcher (i don’t really need to explain why if you have a brain)
i could go on
captcha is ‘them’

Anyone remember?
It’s one of the most meaningful moments in any book I’ve read. Three words. Anyone remember...?
Posted by Keir on from the hague 05/11 at 09:24 PMGreat photo - and great captions from my fellow expendables! And all the best for you and your parents in Texas, Mickey - I hope the move goes smoothly.
We are having another beautiful day in Daylesford with temperatures around 70F and an almost blue sky. And Mr Helga will be here until next Wednesday because he is working locally.
All the best for the upcoming weekend to you, Tim, Keir, Joe of Maine, James, JOS, frances, mateo, Zen Prole, Rosemarie, bdaly, Mew, Michael and Richie. Be well.
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 05/11 at 10:16 PMkier, to my shame, i keep getting waylaid and reading other things. i am on page 96.
i just woke up and after what i was saying about blair last night they have the mass murdering bastard on the radio talking about football (soccer) as if nothing has happened in the last 10 years
Posted by michael on from scotland 05/12 at 03:04 AMFor Helga #23...I simply wanted to say you are such a pleasant person...you comments are so friendly and pleasing and considerate of everyone.
Posted by Joe of maine on from 05/12 at 09:44 AMGood morning everyone...here’s an oldie but goodie for ya...I just spoke to a very nice older woman, retired, who must move because she can no longer afford the taxes on the place she has called home for years. What the hell kind of medieval society do we have, where the extreme wealthy drive the cost of living and everyone else must live in a sub-human fashion. People call a place home for 25-40 years, then when old, tired, weak, they must leave their home and cannot enjoy relaxation but must place economics by the wealthy, for the wealthy....yes, yes, yes, perhaps some people find it exciting to have to move when their 77 years old...I think most find this dehumanizing...!
Posted by joe of maine on from 05/12 at 11:04 AMits called international ghettoization Joe.

In Clown We TrustPosted by mettamatt on from Toronto, ON CAN 05/12 at 02:02 PMmichael...thanks for bringing up the war crimes issue. My latest article, which I have not yet released, deals with that. It is why I am not enthusiastic about Impeachment. Impeachment trivializes the crimes.
joe...the dehumanization of the elderly in this country makes me very sad. We are not living in a compassionate or empathetic culture. I just spent the afternoon with a friend who cannot afford proper medical or dental care even though she worked hard all of her life. I could see that she was in pain.

Posted by michael on from scotland 05/12 at 07:37 PMThis morning I woke up in a curfew;
O god, I was a prisoner, too - yeah!
Could not recognize the faces standing over me;
They were all dressed in uniforms of brutality. eh!How many rivers do we have to cross,
Before we can talk to the boss? eh!
All that we got, it seems we have lost;
We must have really paid the cost.(thats why we gonna be)
Burnin and a-lootin tonight;
(say we gonna burn and loot)
Burnin and a-lootin tonight;
(one more thing)
Burnin all pollution tonight;
(oh, yeah, yeah)
Burnin all illusion tonight.Oh, stop them!
Give me the food and let me grow;
Let the roots man take a blow.
All them drugs gonna make you slow now;
Its not the music of the ghetto. eh!Weeping and a-wailin tonight;
(who can stop the tears? )
Weeping and a-wailin tonight;
(weve been suffering these long, long-a years!)
Weeping and a-wailin tonight
(will you say cheer? )
Weeping and a-wailin tonight
(but where? )Give me the food and let me grow;
Let the roots man take a blow.
I must say: all them - all them drugs gonna make you slow;
Its not the music of the ghetto.We gonna be burning and a-looting tonight;
(to survive, yeah!)
Burning and a-looting tonight;
(save your baby lives)
Burning all pollution tonight;
(pollution, yeah, yeah!)
Burning all illusion tonight
(lord-a, lord-a, lord-a, lord!)Burning and a-looting tonight;
Burning and a-looting tonight;
Burning all pollution tonight. /fadeout/Posted by michael on from scotland 05/12 at 07:38 PMhelga, i should point out that i utterly agree with joes comment number 25 and that i did not come up with the bLIAR thing - it is the standard way to describe him and has been for some time.
