Critical Math
Oops - don’t know the answer to that one, Mickey!
Here what at least one CEO has been up to down under (and here economists are talking about wage pressures, but never in relation to these obscene salaries): one of the directors of the Macquarie Bank in Sydney was paid a total of 33 million (Australian) dollars. Australia is resembling the US more with each passing day.
Hope all is well in Texas and NYC.
Best,
HelgaPosted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 05/17 at 03:56 AMHi Mickey, hi Helga.
Speaking of holy men going to hell . . .
Posted by Keir on from the hague 05/17 at 06:04 AMHello Expendables, from a damp Eastern MA.
My reasoning is thus:
Fighter pilots: see the short story “There Are No Fighter Pilots Down In Hell” by Martin Caidin (in the “Rebels in Hell” entry of the fun and twisted “Heroes In Hell” series). Also, they have ejector seats and, later, NASA careers flying “scientific” missions.Corporations can live forever, so an afterlife for even their highest-paid servants is suspect. Plus, Microsoft owns Hell already – I’ve visited a few times in order to fix Windows. The signpost read “Where Lawyers Fear To Tread,” but was improved to “Where Linux Rears Its Head.”
Satan’s little helpers prefer to ride in limos, so politicians get a professional courtesy pass. (“We were just heading to the AIPAC chinwag too, Senators Biden, Lieberman, Clinton, Kerry, Feinstein, and Inouye. Don’t be bashful, hop in.”)
Holy men, especially those hawking Christianity (pun intended), are prime candidates for getting to hell first. Walking slowly North onto a disappearing polar cap, which can’t be happening ‘cause all God’s sacred spew have carte blanche to pollute and overpopulate as they see fit, seems the quickest way to Beelzebub’s ‘Lake of Fire To Do List.’ Plus, if there isn’t a Hell for smarmy, sanctimonious, misogynistic frauds like Jerry Falwell, then we need to find the receipt and return it to The Mythology Store. Maybe they still have some Bacchanalia v 3.0 in stock.
So, the holy man wins by a blood-soaked couple of millenia.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 05/17 at 09:21 AMHi. Zen Prole you make an execellent point about DU and other radioactive and chemical pollutants.
It certainly does look like people would prefer to debate about the issues rather than take Action in cleaning up the mess. (how the heck is tritium extracted from rivers and lakes?) CO2 looks like small potatos by comparison.
I am in the process of slogging through the opening chapter of Rosalie Bertell’s No Immediate Danger.
I wont pretend to understand even half of the scientific formula and calculations. How the stuff morphs into other stuff as it breaks down. What does seem clear to me is a blatent cover-up of the facts, by govt. agencies, about the dangerous levels of chemicals we are all exposed to through industrial and military use of radioactive tech. The science is excellent,(I was wrong about it being bs...thats where rage takes me I guess), and it is being suppressed.
As of ‘85 there has been 600 USA bomb tests on American soil, 1500 world wide. Plus all the btw accidental spillage.
Lots of people are saying it: Earth First, People first. Its a mind-heart connection. It has nothing to do with right and left or center politics.
Small sustainable communities are great Ideas and the Reality is they require a clean land and water base for optimum health.
Up here in Canada June 29 is a day of Native action. We will see.....Posted by frances on from bc 05/17 at 09:26 AMsorry about last night, i had been out drinking with about 40,000 spanish people http://tinyurl.com/yoxhb7
i will try to make up for it with an old joke…
Q. Why do anarchists only drink herbal tea?
A. because all proper tea is theft.
Posted by michael on from scotland 05/17 at 09:59 AMHello Expendables. Of course, on the day I’m leaving Texas, the weather has cooled. Oh well…
Anyway, I’ll be home later but might not post anything new until the weekend. Either way, I’ll be checking in with y’all soon (I hope).
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Dubya Land 05/17 at 12:01 PMThis is one of the best pieces of reporting (sic) ever! With lines like “You’re trying to do a tap dance on his political grave,” the president said.

Posted by James on from work 05/17 at 12:05 PMContinuing the Shakira reference and recent references to various hard rock stuff… holy crap, Jensen was right-- the end times are near:

Posted by James on from work 05/17 at 02:44 PMThat is horrible, James. I can’t believe she is the same person I used to listen to before she changed everything about herself to become a star in the United States. She used to be an amazing singer/songwriter when she performed in Spanish only. She also was much prettier with her natural black hair.
Here’s a good link...these may be the most intelligent string of words to ever come out of a politician’s mouth:

Hope that doesn’t get me banned from CO....
Posted by James on from work 05/17 at 03:22 PMYou were banned the moment Celine started her air guitar.
Posted by JOS on from Oak Park 05/17 at 03:56 PMCould some bagpipes help? It’s a long way to the top… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1iR2Wi3u5o
Posted by James on from work 05/17 at 04:03 PMJOS, eight seconds of that Celine video cost me brain cells.
Gene Simmons once said “Rock and roll is about [personal] demons and sexuality.” Angus Young and Bon Scott are immortal. Captcha sez ‘southern.’ (Hey, Helga!)
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 05/17 at 09:12 PMWould they still be immortal if they came down with a case of the Jack?

Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 05/17 at 09:51 PMHi, Keir (and Zen Prole, frances, Michael, James and JOS): this must be the very first time that I was actually the first expendable to comment on a post on the Cool Observer’s blog - should I mark it on the calendar?
And the rainfall continues in Daylesford and large parts of eastern Australia, which is a very good thing. Also an excuse not to do anything in the garden ..
Take care, all of you.

Simply priceless, Zen Prole (#3). What about all those sex abuse scandals the RCC has been involved in? And when they were finally called out on it, some of them talked about ‘witch-hunts’. Well, the Vatican would know a thing or two about witch-hunts ..Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 05/17 at 11:13 PM
