Humans promptly circle like vultures
funny you should mention this. i have recently been getting lots of unk emails about “foreclosures in my area” (which they aren’t) and how i could make money from it.
and i will just rrepost the basketball story i put on the end of yesterdays post.
we don’t play much basketball here
neverthelesss this is a good story. one year the british final was in glasgow (where i live). i managed to get a free ticket somehow so i went along. the team that was losing with not long left had no timeouts left and the coach had an idea.... he sent one of the staff out to set the fire alarm for the building off so that he had more time to talk to his team.
they got in serious shit for that one.
ps - job interview, wish me luck, i need it.

Posted by michael on from scotland 06/07 at 07:09 AMgood morning. Yeah, and heres the rub...its all stolen land to begin with! Which got me thinking about horse thieves

If you got something for nothing whats to prevent you from selling it for peanuts or a penny? It has no real value.
Which got me thinking about indian wars, which landed me here

history repeating itself…
vultures are actually pretty cool
http://www.vultures.homestead.com/Mickey you’ve got a genuine entrepeneurial spirit!
Posted by Frances on from bc 06/07 at 09:26 AMI’d would not doubt, the worst human vultures are those who are the least needy.
Speaking of birds, the 9 year old, red necked chicken sododmist is protecting americans from people like his father and Jeb.
Let’s have another huge round of aplause for Vultures and Chicken lovers.
Posted by joe of maine on from 06/07 at 10:50 AMMichael...GOOD LUCK with the interview. Tell ‘em that you have references from all around the world who will vouch for your competency.
Frances...thanks for making the point that it is STOLEN land.
joe...yes, when you need a loan go to a poor person. The rich never are willing to part with their wealth.
Mickey...Good topic here today. The legal and medical vultures circle anytime someone is vulnerable. I have been being circled ever since the truck rear-ended me....... My work background is a bit like yours. I started writing in the 50s. I was just a kid then but was lucky enough to have one of my news stories picked up by the AP and other wires. I was paid by the inch of printed column in those days, even for my “big story”. Years later I taught a course to real estate brokers who were studying for their licensing. I was paid very little there. I have never been good at making money. Being a self-educated, female with a child did not enhance my earning power. I compensated by working very long hours. I was good at managing money and made some good decisions. That’s how I managed to finally get a house of my own (with a mortgage). I never forget that there was an element of luck and sacrifice involved. I can remember being hungry and going without food for brief periods of time. I skipped lunch for a couple of years at a time when I was working in a large New Jersy school system. I will never forget watching the teachers eat. They were paid a lot more than I was for doing the same job. Now I look back on it as an important learning experience. Something happens to a person’s psyche if they experience hunger because of lack of money. I was extremely persistent in my search for a lender so I could get a house, and after years of trying was lucky enough to find one. It’s all about luck and timing and fighting off the vultures. Many who are currently losing their homes are being blamed unfairly. It’s not always the borrowers fault. Reminds of the 70s when many mid-western farmers lost their farms. They had been conned by the banking industry with the backing of the government. The whole money system in the usa is contrived to keep a pool of unemployed workers at the bottom so that wages can be kept low. I don’t know of any time when the Federal Reserve advocated for 100% employment....vultures all of them.

Drest in a little Brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he’s most assur’d,
His glassy essence, like an angry ape,
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven,
As make the angels weep...”Bill S.
Now...I’m not into angel stories, but I like this one. It is used as a preface for an article about Eco-theology...beyond the myths and the authorities that rape the planet and poison even those doing the raping!
Posted by joe of maine on from 06/07 at 05:01 PMThanks for that one, joe. I like the image of weeping angels.

Posted by frances on from bc 06/07 at 09:10 PMRe humans circling like vultures, Mickey: until half an hour ago, I did not know that there were ‘vulture funds’ - like hedge funds but they apparently buy bad debts from 3rd World countries and then sell them at considerable profit. Is there some perverted thinking here or what? And that’s quite some artwork there, frances - thanks for sharing it with your fellow expendables.
Warmest greetings from a wintry but sunny Daylesford to Glasgow Michael (best of luck with that job interview!), Frances, Joe of Maine, Rosemarie and to the Cool Observer of course.
Take care, HelgaPosted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 06/07 at 09:17 PMVery nice song over at Brickburner today.
(Also some other great films to watch again or see if you missed them)
Best to all.
