Morning ritual

  1. Smiling and Joe from Oregon in one weekend. Awesome. If memory serves, Joe + smiling = <a href=http://www.salon.com/comics/opus/2007/06/03/opus/index.html"target="new">Opus</a>.

  2. Good morning everyone...My morning drive to werk was very pleasant. The bay is calm, sparkling from the sun. Tide is up...the clouds are puffy with an azure sky behind them.

It’s easy for me to go on overload from all the crap and forget there are some nice things and beauty. I would like for everyone to see a beautiful bay in the morning.

  3. That’s the spirit, MZ. Now get some fangs. http://tinyurl.com/2wnl6m (one of the best lead guitar breaks ever...EVER!)

Media Stuff: Watched the doc “Who Killed The Electric Car?” and it filled in some historical gaps. The film is very well-produced and worth watching. I caution the politically initiated against the “Golly gee” attitude of those deprived of this technology - WTF did you expect from Big Oil and the G?

Am reading “Vice,” a biography of Dick Cheney. Well written by Lou Dubose (writing partner of the late Molly Ivins) and Jake Bernstein, it also provides some useful history on The Big Stick and his Fascist Adventures. Especially interesting is the part about his time in Congress, back when the Dems had an idea-proof majority and the Right was free to experiment with tactics. Definitely worth a read for the “DOH!” factor: if a smart thug like Cheney can figure out how to crush a seemingly-insurmountable opposition...the math can’t be too hard. The Dems’ institutional memory, along with loads of corporate money and twisted personal ambitions, keeps this same process from taking place.

Oh, to live in a country with an opposition party.

  4. Hello Expendables. It’s a beautiful day in NYC. Michele and I will be heading out to Coney Island soon to witness this. We’ll surely pass our daily quota for smiles.

    I’ll catch up with y’all later…

  5. Hi Mickey, Zen, Keir, and joe.  joe, I must have the same air mass here, beautiful - good breathing weather. Bright blue sky, but I don’t have an ocean here.

John Perkins is one of the good guys. He wrote “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man”.
Tonight he will be on C-span, 10:00 PM EDT
His new book “The Secret History of the American Empire”. Catch it, if you can. There will also be a program about Malcolm X on at about 1 AM, that one is for all of the insomniacs around here.

  6. Evening all.
Zen, I’m fucked off because I turned down a Metallica ticket for the new Wembley stadium, believing it was the same weekend as an unmissable local world music festival. I am officially a moron. Fucking Metallica! I don’t care how short their hair is…
RMJ, read “confessions”, and it read a little too much like a mea culpa for my liking, which isn’t to say any of the info within is without value, far from it. Its still recommended reading for the clueless. For the well read, its a case of “tell me something I don’t know!”.

Zen, you do hit on a hopeful note: - for all the media malarky about Rove’s puppetry, Cheney’s ruthlessness, Bliars discipline and Godheartfelt sincerity*, the people in charge are in fact incompentent morons. Thats only scary if you ever had any faith in the ability of the Great and Good to rescue us.

    *I’ve never flown, and
wouldn’t know what a vomit bag looks like if it weren’t for “Airplane!"**

** Bliar dreams of having a 29% approval rating.

captcha says “schools”, I left when I was 14. First assertion of independence and all that.

  7. Hello again, all. Long story but we didn’t make it to the Mermaid Parade. We did, however, hang out in the park under the Verrazano Bridge:
