Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers 07/04 at 11:16 AMHello Mickey...was that really Bruce Springstein? I thought Burl Ives sang that song???
Sorry to see yesterday’s communication piece end so quickly...especially since, for me, communication seems more difficult than ever...about any subject!
Posted by joe of maine on from 07/04 at 11:54 AMHere’s the beach, from both sides of the pond:
Rockaway Beach by THE RAMONES
Chewing out a rhythm on my bubble gum
The sun is out and I want some.
It’s not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride
To rockaway beach.
Up on the roof, out on the street
Down in the playground the hot concrete
Bus ride is too slow
They blast out the disco on the radio
Rock rock rockaway beach
Rock rock rockaway beach
We can hitch a ride
To rockaway beach
It’s not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride
To rockaway beach.
Bell Boy by THE WHO
The beach is a place where a man can feel
He’s the only soul in the world that’s real,
Well I see a face coming through the haze,
I remember him from those crazy days.Ain’t you the guy who used to set the paces
Riding up in front of a hundred faces,
I don’t suppose you would remember me,
But I used to follow you back in ‘63.I’ve got a good job
And I’m newly born.
You should see me dressed up in my uniform.
I work in hotel, all gilt and flash.
Remember the place where the doors were smashed?Bell Boy! I got to keep running now.
Bell Boy! Keep my lip buttoned down.
Bell Boy! Carry this baggage out.
Bell Boy! Always running at someone’s heel.
You know how I feel, always running at someone’s heel. Some nights I still sleep on the beach.
Remember when stars were in reach.
Then I wander in early to work,
Spend the day licking boots for my perks.A beach is a place where a man can feel
He’s the only soul in the world that’s real…People often change
But when I look in your eyes,
You could learn a lot from
A job like mine.
The secret to me
Isn’t flown like a flag
I carry it behind
This little badgeThese are the only two bands I can think of that *must* have capital letters. The Who (1/2) played Dublin yesterday.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 07/04 at 12:39 PMThanks for the nice words, Richie. I can’t see the “myspace” thing. My computer has a mind of its own.
joe..."communication seems more difficult”...just keep on talking. We need your voice around here.
Zen...how’s it going for you today. It is cold and raining here. The fireworks have been cancelled. Fine by me. The last time I felt any cheer from seeing fireworks was many years ago when I took my little girl to see them on the Cape May beach. Celebrating anything these days seems almost like a perversion.
Here’s one for you...the National Christmas tree is coming from my little town this year. Local people are all excited about it. I made the suggestion that we include with the tree some “Peace” decorations. That is allowed. A small local manufacturer makes very nice “Peace” signs. It would be a boost for his little business and also spread a message of peace. I made my suggestion to the local peace group. You know the rest of the story…

Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers 07/04 at 03:28 PMRichie..8..What kind of bike do you have?
An MV Augusta, Ducatti, RC51? I only have a bicycle, a Koga.I once owned an N15 Norton, bought new in ‘66...neat bike in its day, however, an engineering disaster as most British bikes and cars were and probably still are. Couple people in the area have interesting side car rigs...good for hauling lots of groceries.
Many cafe racers of all kinds, the term crotch rocket is still used, Harleys are very big in Maine. I’m sure you own a V twin????
Well thank you RMJ...apparently the pardon of fellow criminal libby is the first thing bush has done to offend many people...what time did they have their alarm set for?
The positive of this is revealing another reason to break away from the mainstream and spend energy going into the future…
Posted by joe of maine on from 07/04 at 03:47 PMRMJ...very nice article. I had an Aunt Jenny, she married my father’s brother and like my mother she was never thrilled.
I’ll add to William Blum’s quote and this is one of those emotional statements; if politicians had any integrity, they would voluntarily walk to the gallows!

I love trying food I’ve never had, for me an exciting adventure like mountain climbing without the danger and litter from previous mountaineers.
Posted by joe of maine on from 07/04 at 04:27 PMHi michael…
joe...I still have an Aunt Jenny. She is my father’s cousin...a very beautiful woman. She had a lot of children and gave them all names that started with the letter “J”. It looked nice on Christmas cards. She is still living in Pennsylvania.////// I agree about politicians. Just when you think you’ve got a good one, they go to Washington and turn out to be just like all of the others there. Really though, I think that the blame has to placed on the voters. They keep voting for Repub/dems and expect a different result. One way to improve things would be for everyone to refuse to ever again vote for an incumbent. That would give us instant term limits. But the bottom line is that if voting could change things, they would not let us do it. That island that you, richie, and others talk about seems better every day.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 07/04 at 04:40 PMRoseMarie = I agree = great article/op-ed = Joe == I have a few vid examps of stuff my brother Tommy and I ride in N Ft Myers - Port St Lucie— example #1 is a 79’ HD Sportster ... much like the one in this vid == our’s was done in Babylon, NY = not far from Astoria = where Mickey lives.. http://tinyurl.com/2lawsd = We co-owned and older brother Tommy wanted an 03’ V-Rod - HD Orange = so we traded the chopper ... Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers 07/04 at 04:51 PMRMJ..13..How often is the question asked, why does someone run for a political office?
Do they truly have wholesome intents and want to help people? We hear about corporations buying off politicians. Is it possible, for many candidates, this is exactly why they run for office, to make lots of money with no intentions of doing anything worthwhile for the citizens? Why do people run for office?
Are they attracted to a lifetime, paid vacation at taxpayer expense, all the benefits, retirement, etc.? Do they find public office honorable, prestigious, an ego trip like the 5th grader wanting to be on the student council, Perhaps feeling they are above the other students and with special privileges?
Do these people running for office delight in feeling powerful, having power over others, in the limelight, on TV, in the news...just like Metallica?
My intuition tells me there is not a politician alive, who has a mature sense of objectivity, responsibility and intelligence beyond a 10 year old pubescent!
Posted by joe of maine on from 07/04 at 05:00 PMGood question, joe. I think you are right about most politicians. I beleive that Nader is an exception. I had only one reason for running, and that was to expose the corruption in the Vermont legal system and the, in my opinion, unethical practices of the State Attorney General’s office. It was a good experience. I learned that there are even more people than I thought who had been victimized by “the System”. Also, I had one advantage that the other candidates did not have. I knew that as a third party candidate I would not win so during the campaign I was completely free to be totally honest - and I was.
