"Where perfection is not an accident"
Ver Nice story Mickey...some children grow to understand their relationship to the man-made society...Other children grow up and create the conditions for children to become stone throwers.
Hopefully the stone throwers are not emotionally abandoned. What does it say about a society that gives no thought to the effects of its actions on the young...a society that exhibits no regard for life? Where are the people who claim they are of a religion that would denounce an unethcial, self-destructive society that exists only for the economics of rich people?
Posted by joe of maine on from 08/13 at 11:05 AMExcellent story, Mick. This is where I want to get with my writing...a perfect mix of a good story and actual meaning...a lesson of sorts about our culture, government, society.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 08/13 at 12:13 PMI like the story, MZ. It’s a strong antidote to Approved Dissent(tm), which I suspect is passing out of vogue.
Stan Goff has a fine three-part article about Pat Tillman which gives an idea of how “Perfection Is No Accident” works in a war zone.

Q: When Does The Fragging Start?
(Somehow, I don’t think that’s gonna make the cut for Jeopardy.)Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 08/13 at 01:01 PMHello Expendables. Another hot, muggy day in paradise.
Thanks for the kind feedback. I like this story, too. Who knows? It might end up as the opening scene for a novel or screenplay.
Thanks for the links, Zen. Appropriately, captcha sez: lost.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/13 at 01:44 PMI really liked the story too Mickey-- it is perfect.
You cannot deny that you are a born writer!
Posted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 08/13 at 01:53 PMAnother perspective...Grace started the revolution and few or no one noticed...?
Posted by joe of maine on from 08/13 at 02:24 PMHi joe, JOS, Zen, Robert, and Mickey.
Yes, I join the chorus in saying that it is a great story Mickey. I hope to see it televised so that the masses can see it...seems like the perfect story line for Boston Legal.
Your story brings to mind many work experiences I have had. One day when I was teaching, I heard a lot of noise coming from the room next door. At lunch time I went to the office to ask what was happening. I was told that in the room next to mine an asbestos removal project was taking place. I don’t know if any of the children were exposed or not. No one seemed to care. All of the propaganda about the need for tort reform is aimed at protecting corporations at the expense of workers and consumers.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/13 at 04:01 PMI was just remembering your cupboard/storage story from last year, Mickey. It was good like these recent stories. Did you ever build a cupboard or mobile shelf?
Posted by Bob on from New York 08/13 at 07:37 PMHello Robert, RMJ, and Bob. I’m hesitant to admit this, but I do not remember writing a “cupboard/storage story.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/13 at 07:41 PMDidn’t you write one re the history of houses and storage and attics and how much stuff people have now and the article got so much interesting feedback. It was published on another site. Or maybe it was another writer… sorry if I am at fault. I liked that story so much. It was about moving to a new apartment and not having enough cupboards and then the writer extended the idea. How’s that for a good memory??
Posted by Bob on from New York 08/13 at 08:08 PMAh yes, that wasn’t fiction but here it is:
http://tinyurl.com/2ep9v5Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/13 at 08:12 PMGlad my memory was right. I suppose I said fiction/story instead of “political” writing. I’ve mostly read your political pieces, and I liked finding the other pieces. So did you build anything?!
Posted by Bob on from New York 08/13 at 08:26 PMNah, we downsized our “stuff” and thus needed less space.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 08/13 at 08:31 PMLove the answer. Isn’t it relaxing to take the pressure off and try not to consume. I’ll stop here or I’ll be commenting all night. This is slightly addictive.
Posted by Bob on from New York 08/13 at 09:00 PMYou’re right, Bob. Opting out of the consumer madness is indeed an excellent to feel less pressure.
Good night, all.
