My wife - Barby - just came back from visiting her mom - 87’ - best friend of my Ma and Pa—Barby also sat and prayed with my mother and watched as the space between her breathing gaps - widens everso slightly - by the hour .. Posted by michael on from scotland 08/19 at 08:36 AMGood morning michael, JOS, richie, and Mickey. Last night I traveled over the mountain to a celebration in honor of a couple of friends, Doris and Peter. They are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They have a very large and loving family. It was wonderful to see so many happy people singing and dancing. I was left with the thought that there are 2 kinds of people in the world - those with families and those without. As I tried to fall asleep last night, I was thinking about all of my other friends who have no families. The life experience of those who have and those who have not is like the difference between black and white. Richie and Mickey I think about the sad and stressful things that you are coping with, but am happy that you have families and are not alone.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/19 at 09:12 AMRMJ..4..Good Morning...I was just thinking and talking about families after speaking to someone on the phone...John Bradshaw oftened stated, when talking about families and the dysfunctional family being the norm, the topic of his lectures..."you can’t expect a 3 year old...to raise a 3 year old”
To respond to you RMJ...yes, a nice, warm family would be wonderful. I just sent a get well card to my oldest sister. We have had a civilized relationship for only about 2 years out of 59. I gave up trying to communicate...moons ago...it has almost been like she doesn’t exist. A symptom of the dysfunctional family I came from.
Posted by joe of maine on from 08/19 at 12:37 PMHi joe...I think there are more dysfunctional families than meets the eye. My exposure to the celebration last night, reminded me of the way life should be. Most families probably don’t achieve that kind of togetherness - and I think that the reasons for dysfunction are as varied as can be and are different in each family. I hope that your sister will love you for reaching out to her.
Today is officially Battle Day in Bennington. The big annual parade has just concluded. Seems a little outrageous to me to celebrate a “battle”, but then, what can be expected in a town where the highest structure is “The Battle Monument”, which commemorates a battle that was NOT fought here. The Battle of Bennington was actually fought in New York. I used to march in the parade but haven’t for a long time now. The Peace group is only permitted to march at the back of the parade, after the belly dancers, military tanks, humvees, cloggers, and boy scouts.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/19 at 01:34 PMThe belly dancers are in front of the army tanks?
Is that an enlistment strategy of local army recruiters? Are there any male belly dancers?Posted by joe of maine on from 08/19 at 02:45 PMjoe...no male belly dancers this year. Are you interested in participating next year? If so, I would attend. It would give me something to look forward to.
Here is an article I just finished about health care. Bet you didn’t know about these new rules.
http://tinyurl.com/2j6l6wPosted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/19 at 03:03 PMRMJ...I do plan to be a belly dancer in next year’s parade and if I can’t enter as a belly dancer, I’ll simply march as a nudist. I think a nuder veterans parade is appropriate...health care?
I recently blasted the health care industry the other day in a few statewide email networks..sent a copy to local newspaper who I know will not print it.
The statement is so obvious, corporate america not only doesn’t care about Iraq, Afghanistan and others, it doesn’t care about americans either. And this is fine, sooner or later everone will finally get it...after 250 years...they’ll get it!

Posted by RICHIE on from St Cloud / N Ft Myers 08/19 at 05:00 PMjoe #9...You will be welcomed with open arms. Nudity is NOT illegal in Vermont. Everyone should disrobe until we all have good health care.....About newspapers publishing letters, they don’t publish them if you criticize the establishment. When we questioned that policy here, we were told to BUY space in the paper.
richie...I can’t see your utubes. My computer has a mind of its own. Every time I try to have any fun with it, it slows down to almost no speed at all. Hellos to Barbie. She made my day!
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/19 at 05:37 PMHi everyone. I hope all is well and my prayers go out to Mickey’s Family tonight. I’ve been away a while on a family rollercoaster ride that I will never forget. More about that at a later date but life is getting back on track now.
Peace!

Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers 08/19 at 10:26 PMHi Richie, David, and joe
Mickey...How is your Mother doing???Last night someone I had not heard of till those here talked about him was on C-span. Dave Zirin - he did a good job on C-span. He was very interesting and had a good delivery. I agreed with almost everything he said, except when he said that sports are an important and positive influence. I did not agree there. Otherwise he made an impressive appearance. If he ran for office, he’d be a sure winner.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/20 at 03:04 PMRMJ 15, Dave Zirin feels we need sports...as we know sports...if sports is necessary, ruthless competition...why? Why don’t we have time in america to take 10 mile walks every single day?
Prosecute Dave Zirin
Posted by joe of maine on from 08/20 at 03:21 PMjoe...I thought everyone here would be mad at me for my stand on sports. Thank you. I agree that walking, swimming, and physical fitness are very important but have always thought that sports have a negative impact. I especially learned that lesson when I had to coach a high school basketball team in order to keep my job as a health teacher. All that stuff that they tell you about “good sportsmanship” is a big lie - of course you knew that.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/20 at 05:11 PMHello Expendables. Always a pleasure to see everyone hanging out here in my absence.
It’s turned out that my mom’s appointments have been changed so we’ve been using this time to get her out to have some fun (my dad doesn’t seem able to do much any more). We’ve seen No Reservations and Hairspray and done lots of hanging out...not to mention, watching the Yankees.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Dubya Land 08/20 at 06:22 PMHi Mickey...sounds like you are giving Mom the best medicine of all - time with her son.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 08/20 at 06:33 PMRMJ 17...Yeah, I was very competitive in sports while younger...by watching how parents lived via their children, I became very angry with everything associated with competition...the larger psychological war...questioned it from the cultural imperative...found authors who supported my wild ideas I had since before teens...I didn’t feel so quite alone and vulnerable.
So many things about this sick society supports the ‘us against them’, crap...instead of encouraging the ‘us’, the WE, cooperatively, careingly.
Yeah, I knew of a man who walked, casually, 10 miles every day..amidst plant life. A contemporary athlete, trainer, health type person calculated based on whatever formula, that humans should walk approximately 10 miles every day...I couln’t agree more. It beats spending time at the plantation also.
