Summer re-runs, Part VI

Posted by Mickey Z on 08/21 at 07:14 AM
  1. Good morning Mickey, I hope things are okay…

Many of us can remember how we were terrorized regularly by some stupid politician reading a script telling the entire nation that the Russians were hiding in our cleaning closet waiting for a chance to steal a broom and kidnap the parakeet. Now, politicians are just as stupid with wider spread lies but fewer people own brooms...we can’t afford to buy one!

  2. Good morning Mickey and joe...It’s another cold morning. The leaves are changing color. People up here tend to get depressed this time of year. The only good news to report is that last night’s sunset was spectacular. The whole sky was bright red. It was amazing.
About stupid politicians - well maybe not so stupid, just evil and manipulative. Hillary spoke in front of one of the veterans organizations and tailored her message. She came off like a real war monger, which of course she is. The dems will vote for her. After all she IS a woman and she does have nice hair. What could be more important.

Has anyone been following the dust up at the American Psychological Ass.? Seems they can’t agree on not participating in torture. Do the therapists need some therapy?  Or is the problem that they have had so much therapy that they now feel “entitled” to torture?

  3. Hi Joe and Rosemarie, Mickey and everyone,

About competition yesterday, well I was on the fencing team in college, and I turned out sort of okay. At least not overly ruthless… and if it makes you feel better about being in Texas, it’s really cold and rainy here today, a real early fall season day. Glad you’re getting your mom outside and hope you can do more of same somehow for your dad. I know how that can be hard but I hope things improve for him sometime.

  4. Hello Expendables. As you might imagine, it’s hot and humid here in Dubya Land. Thanks for all the good wishes and excellent conversations.

  5. RMJ...we’ve been having fall weather on the coast also. 2 wool blankets does the trick at night, leaving the windows open.

Does Hilary have nice hair? I can barely distinguish her from Bill Clinton. All the emails I get locally are Kucinich fans...he has become the hero. Apparently we need heros until we learn about murder corruption and dog fights, then we look for new heros instead of looking for ourselves!

  6. Hi Mickey, James, and joe...Yes, Hillary has nice hair. Yesterday at the VFW she said,”...we have to start preparing for the next war...” ...and the dems STILL don’t get it. Your Kucinich supporting friends must have forgotten how he abandoned the peace movement during the last election. They are influenced by what he is saying now, but sometimes a persons future behavior can be predicted by their past behavior.

Question of the day: In New Hampshire the license plates say, “Live free, or die”. Is it true that they are made by prisoners?

  7. MZ, I hope you, Michele, and the folks are doing OK in Tejas.

Joe #1: Someone get this guy a mike. It reminds me of that one-liner about Ho Chi Minh getting in a canoe to cross the Pacific and invade the US…

I classify this New England weather as a Climate Event (tm), in the same league as early Jan 2001 when it was a breezy 55 degrees at one in the morning. I have never, ever, seen it this cool in August. We won’t have to use a/c when the Atlantic warm-water conveyor shuts down, either!

RMJ: I propose sending the governing board of the APA and Dennis Kucinich on a rendition flight to Eastern Europe. In closed session (my o my, the wit is sharp enough to cut bananas), they can discuss the relative merits of condoning torture and political party structures. Then they can be hooked up to the microwave in the staff lounge.

Hillary Clinton is the only human being alive who can make Dubya look good. I’m lookin’ do bet someone two bits this is the case.

  8. Hello Expendables. I’d love to be in NYC for the spring-like weather. It seems it’s back to summer heat just as we arrive home tomorrow night. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Hurricane Dean doesn’t toss our flight plans into chaos.

  9. “Well over half (57 percent) say they do not like learning about political issues in other countries.”

But it is OK to go in there and bomb the place into microscopic dust.

  11. Great line from your article, Mick:

“Fiction just doesn’t interest me,” said Bob Ryan, 41, who works for a construction company in Guntersville, Ala. “If I’m going to get a story, I’ll get a movie.”

  12. from yayacanada:

Thought Food: “... Canada’s helplessness before US power: that’s almost like a Nuremberg defence… it’s worth remembering that that defence didn’t work at Nuremberg. There are always choices; some are costly. But how could Canadians morally argue against choosing not to profit from murderous policies because such choices were too costly?” - Justin Podur

  13. The 50 most loathsome people in America:

Might disagree with some of them, but this line just cracked me up:

    30. Rush Limbaugh

Charges: It’s hard to believe this repulsive shit fountain is even human, until you remember that we share 70% of our DNA with pigs.

  14. Hello everyone, here’s a quote by gorge bush on the prime minister of Iraq…

“The fundamental question is, will the government respond to the demands of the people? And if the government doesn’t respond to the demands of the people, they will replace the government.

    Prosecute them all

  15. Joe #14
i saw the same quote and had similar reaction.
total hypocritic...especially since his monkey trainers do all they can to keep dissenters(sic)away.

meanwhile i am wondering why the medical techs are not requiring me to collect my( mildly radioactive)urine so they can safely dispose of it. but i guess if just about every nuclear aaccident is deemed to pose no risks they would think my concern was verging on the paranoid/ignorant?  still...when i get a chance i will ask, just to watch their reaction.

  16. Hi to Mickey and all the E’s. Here’s a request for Mickey: a pic of you in a Texan scene. So good to hear you are getting out and about with your family. I doubt I’ll get to Texas anytime soon. Kids, bills, work. It’s hard just getting by. Any pics for those of us who’ll not make it for a long time? Take care.

  17. Frances 15...what does it feel like to have that nuclear medicine in your body. I had a friend who looked great until she was put on chemo-therapy. She died shortly after…

  18. Hello everyone. I’ll see if I can find a good Texas photo but where my parents live hardly lives up to the stereotypical Texas image. Still, I did pass a restaurant today that offered “pulled pork sandwich” and “sausage on a stick.”

  19. hi Joe
Well death is one thing we can all be sure of reaching...some day.
I did ask the chemo lady about my concern for the fish and whatever else may come in contact with this stuff....she got a funny/blank look on her face and said that people flush so many different cleaners and whatnot down the toilet that i shouldnt worry about it. ????

  20. Mickey no. 18: Whatever Texas you see is Texas! Think of it like an essay but a photo essay. Call it “My Texas”. We like how you write so I’m sure we’d like to see what your eyes see. Or am I being too demanding? Take care. Or you could call it “everyday life in Texas” or “an unTexan Texas”.
