  2. Hello Expendables. It’s gonna be a steamy one here today. Maybe record high temperatures.

Joe: Is there anyone we shouldn’t prosecute?

  3. Hi Mickey...I’ve given your question some thought...just after reading about the beginning slaughter of Native People’s in the land of president’s daughters and new husband who both look like gorge bush...only more hostile...no...I can’t think of anyone...?

Posted by joe of maine  on  from 08/25  at  10:53 AM
  4. I agree, Joe. We’ve all played a role of some kind. Here’s Chomsky: “Well, there are really some moral truisms. One of them is that opportunity confers responsibility. If you have very limited opportunities, then you have limited responsibility for what you do. If you have substantial opportunity you have greater responsibility for what you do. I mean, that’s kind of elementary, I don’t know how it can be discussed.”

  5. Yes...I’ve taken the simplistic road, not just so I wouldn’t contribute to capitalism, but also, I don’t want stuff, clutter, objects. I couldn’t continue education because I felt my mind was being cluttered with meaningless information and I already had too much of that. I have never had money fore taking a job that pays ok, also means more crap in my consciousness. I could never be self-employed because I don’t think like that...I feel more like the slaughtered Native’s

  6. hello joe and mickey and everyone.

i have just finished six weeks of intense work in a different scottish city.

i go home to glasgow tomorrow, which will be nice.

my lack of commenting on thissite is die to the fact that where i was living didnt have internet so i had to go to a bar with free wifi (where i am now as it happens). and if i am in a bar there is an obvious temptation…

anyway, i didn’t know that about waht you posted mickey so cheers.

and because i have just finished the long days and the too much work (especially since i have to do my site, the new one, spinwatch etc etc)i thought it was time for a comedy story. a true one too.

its coming in the next post…

  7. A few years ago I was out at a comedy night in Glasgow. This was quick thinking.

It wasn’t a big comedy club. There are two of those in Glasgow but this was a small thing in the basement of a pub. I went to it a few times and because it is usually relatively unknown comedians it is a bit hit or miss. I think I went 5 times and it was 3-2 on good to bad.

Anyway, one night one of the comedians did a backflip on the very small stage. He got a big round of applause and everyone was shouting ‘do it again’.

He said he would and not only that but he would do a double backflip but first some people from the audience had to go on stage and do ‘Glasgow gymnastics’.

He picked me as one of the people that had to go on stage. He made fun of me because I had shaved my hair off and I said “That’s Bosnian chic, I’ll have you know” which got a laugh from the audience.

He got another couple of people to come up and then he asked me what gymnastics I was going to do. I ignored him and turned to the audience and said “I can’t do gymnastics but I can do fire-breathing - does anyone want to see fire breathing?”.

Cheers from the crowd and they wanted to see it. The comedian was a bit worried but decided just to run with it so I turned to the barman and said “double sambuca please.”

He said they didn’t have sambuca so I said a double tequila will do just as well.

He gave me it and I asked the crowd for a lighter and my friend threw one which hit me on the forehead because I couldn’t see it coming because of the spotlight.  The comedian said “and that is supposed to be his friend”, which got a big laugh.

So I had the tequila in my left hand and the lighter in my right and I said to the audience “are you ready? ready? ready?”

    “yes”

    “ok then”

Then I just drank the tequila straight down and said “sorry dude, I can’t do it really, it’s just a joke” and walked off the stage to general hilarity in the audience. They loved it.

The comedian turned round and said “you bastard, you just ruined my whole section.”

The thing I thought was funniest was that for the remaining hour of the evening I could see the barman trying to work out if he was going to charge me for the drink.

  11. Hello again. Great, great story, Michael. Welcome Frances and Mew.

I was just here to see The Crazies. Originally a Vietnam allegory, it still works well for mocking the mess we’re in.

  12. From 1-11, we’ve gone from the tramplings of Amerigo Vespucci to Vietnam...non-stop.

I’ve suggested we stop using the popular death counts for Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia...it’s one continuous war, one accumulating death toll with a brief time out occasionally to have a commercial break.

So, the count by now is in the millions, maybe billions. Expansionism...someone downplayed the current acts of genocide stating there have always been wars and it’s probably inevitable there will always be wars. I don’t agree and humans, I feel have the potential to transcend all this shallow way of thinking.

If one person wants to fight and 200,000 don’t, I doubt there will be a war. How can we create this mindset so no matter how loud Amerigo Bush shouts, there will be no one listening?

I guess, at least a few at a time, WE can record over the information on our mental tapes......the fraction of a nano-second when immediately present and aware without old references, especially the destructive stuff, ever clouding our perception...sustaining this.

  15. Hello everyone...lots of good comments here but what joe says is really important. We should stop using the conventional death numbers. They are so deceptive. Once in a courtroom speech I said something similar - that we really need to count the dead from 1492. It HAS been one continuous slaughter. Sadly, I don’t think that even the correct numbers would have much of an impact. I have been to too many so-called peace demonstrations where there is no mention of “their” dead. The usual message from these groups is that we should stop the war because it costs too much and too many of “ours” are dying. I no longer participate in any demonstrations that do not honor “their” dead.
Today there are protests in Kinneybunkerport. I saw some of it on the news. Many carry signs calling for the impeachment of Cheyney/Bush. I didn’t see any that hold Clinton responsible for the deaths caused by his administration. It’s just more partisan politics as usual.

Btw, I heard from Keir (longtime Expendables will remember him). He’s going through a very rough patch but sends his best.

  21. ...And radiated particles can go airborne anywhere!

“A force multiplier is a technological method to multiply the aggressiveness and lethality of an armed force. Dr. Katsuma Yagasaki of Ryukyus University in Okinawa, a physicist, stated publicly that the atomicity equivalent of the weaponized uranium gas deployed in Iraq by U.S. military forces is hundreds of thousands of times the radioactivity of the Nagasaki atomic bomb.”

“Marion Fulk, who started working on nuclear weapons more than 60 years ago during the Manhattan Project, says, “I would say that it is the perfect weapon for killing lots of people.” A leading scientist, Leuren Moret, speaking out on the use of depleted uranium today, says flatly, “Iraq is uninhabitable,” due to widespread radiation poisoning.”

  22. Hello everyone...I have just returned from northern Wisconsin where I attended a cousin’s wedding.  It was nice to see a remote area in this country of ours where one can go and breathe relatively clean air.

Joe- “Iraq is uninhabitable,” due to widespread radiation poisoning.”

Glad you brought this up.  I have blogged on it many times, mainly pointing out the fact that the MSM doesn’t give it the time of day.  On top of the crime against humanity that our military has poisoned Iraq almost beyond repair...they are also poisoning their own soldiers, who then return home to be told there is no such thing as DU syndrome.  It’s the same story, over and over again…

michael, your fellow spinwatcher did an excellent job in that interview.  I have to say that despite the fact that the interviewer balked at his comment regarding the BBC admitting any responsibility for their part in bringing about the Iraq invasion he did provide a platform for your friend to talk about several important issues without too much interruption...something that happens here in the States in about one out of every million news broadcasts/interviews.

This disgusting weapon is another one that everyone is keeping quiet about...think bloggers can make a difference here?:

  27. Hi Frances...another detail that I’ve read almost nothing about, though I have not made effort to search is the everyday electro-magnetic pollution from TV’s, radios, high tension wires, cars electronics, computers, microwave towers, power plants, probably cell phones, etc., and whatever else...who knows what all this crap is doing???

  30. Michael, that was a great clip from YouTube. Q: When put on the spot, as the guy from the NY Observer was by an intrusion of the truth, what’s the deal with smiling like a chimpanzee?

One other bit I’d add is the term “shake ‘n’ bake” (for an HE/WP mix of artillery rounds) has been in Marine Corps lingo for at least a few decades. For all the hostility I have toward the war machine, it distresses me when “investigative” types miss the boat on obvious shit dealing with weapons and tactics. Such things aren’t state secrets, but are a lever to being dismissed out of hand.

Counterpoint: I followed the link for thermobaric weapons and checked out some of the related stuff and comments. One military mind (sic) disputed the WP story then, when the Army ‘fessed up, expressed shock, writing “It doesn’t make sense. That’s not what those rounds are designed for.”

    My brain just exploded.

Nice to see a full house of Expendables for this post. Frances, hope you’re doing OK. Best wishes to you, Keir.
