Posted by Richie on from N Ft Myers FL 09/22 at 09:18 AMHello Expendables...from overcast Astoria. Thanks for the suggestions.
Head’s up: Once again, I am not receiving notification whenever someone leaves a comment so this could slow down my already glacial commenting rate.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 09/22 at 09:32 AMGood morning everyone, Well everyone has music suggestions...one that came to my mine quickly is an oldie but a real toe tapper...’Dissident-Agressor’ by Juda Priest.
This fine composition is appropriate for campaign music, proms, wedding receptions, candlelight dinners, wakes, etc.
Posted by joe maine on from 09/22 at 09:37 AMAn oldie from the G/P video! Look how young they r! It’s a fine official campaign song, MZ, though after hours I’ll be spinning some Tom Lehrer to keep everyone loose at HQ. http://tinyurl.com/3csg8r
A risk that’s run with “New World Man” was articulated by Adlai Stevenson a half century ago: “We’ll get the intellectual vote!” said an enthusiast, and he replied “Yes, but we need a majority...”
Richie, I’ve never been to MLPS and would love to cover the convention, though I’m stunned that Minnesotans would allow that dog-and-pony show to sully an apparently fine state. It is at the Xcel Energy Center, which explains part of it.
It’s a fine Native American Summer day in eastern MA, and I’ve got to get my fat carcass to the gym. “Ute He” to all the Expendables.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 09/22 at 09:42 AMHere is one for the majority vote.
Michael Franti
Bomb the worldPlease tell me the reason
Behind the colors that you fly
Love just one nation
And the whole world we divide
You say you’re “sorry”
Say, “there is no other choice”
But god bless the people them
Who cannot raise their voice(chorus)
We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace
Whoa we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peaceViolence brings one thing
More more of the same
Military madness
The smell of flesh and burning pain
So i sing out to the masses
Stand up if you’re still sane!
To all of us gone crazy
I sing this one refrain(chorus)
And i sing power to the peaceful
Love to the people y’all
Power to the peaceful
Love to the people y’allhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnSDut-2oU4
Posted by frances on from bc 09/22 at 10:48 AMHere’s a favorite song that I always believed would be an ideal campaign song for just the right candidate (I’m still hoping Cynthia McKinney gets her chance):
Black Uhuru’s Solidarity
http://tinyurl.com/23hfqvand here’s just a favorite song to enjoy in the meantime:
Jack Tempchin’s Better World
http://tinyurl.com/338wfyPosted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 09/22 at 12:29 PMHi richie, Mickey, Zen, Buddha, joe, Robert, frances and all others.
I don’t have a suggestion for a campaign song yet. I have to think about it for awhile. I do like the title of my favorite musical piece, “How Could You Do a Thing Like That to Me” (Erroll Garner). It would not be good for a campaign but it sure is a great piece of music.richie...Weird Al Yankovic - you bring back memories. I grew up in an area where the only musical instrument was an accordion.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 09/22 at 02:14 PMSince we are going into the future, which is what War Regime is against, perhaps we need an original song or campaign tune. Who are the musicians out there, the composers?
What do we sing about or say by tune and required instruments?
Posted by joe maine on from 09/22 at 02:52 PMJoe… I was just thinking the same thing. We should write our own.......
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 09/22 at 03:11 PMI feel the music can elicit a sense of peace, of wonder, mind expansion, the vastness of the universe, the harmonious relationship of all things, journeying into the unknown, without Fear…
Posted by joe maine on from 09/22 at 03:54 PMFeel like sharing, since I’m typing, I will...staying with thoughts of music, I’m listening to a selection by Keith Jarrett, ‘Dark Intervals’. I don’t like the title of one composition, but it’s musically excellent, I feel.
If any Blues listeners out there, and I’m not one of them, if you don’t already...Johnny Meister has been presenting the Blues Show live, from WXPN, Univ. of Pennsylvania. This is the longest running Blues show in the universe, I’m quite sure, 30 years, no commercials. It’s on now. Just type in search...WXPN...only, select player. 6 hours.
This was a great station until the Univ. Nazi’s took over in 1988.
Posted by joe maine on from 09/22 at 07:09 PMI’ll be away for a few days, so will leave another snippet from the Lewis Black show. John Bowman opened for him and was very, very good. Here’s his Fake Medium bit:
“Don’t you love those shows? I’ve been working on it myself.” Bowman walks into the audience, asks woman
“Is there a K in your life, I’m seeing a K, someone, something K, that is close to you...”
The woman responds in the affirmative.
Solemnly, he continues “K is very concerned about you and wants you to know that.”
Next, he approaches man in front row. “Sir, I’m seeing an L, someone who’s L, there’s a concern about L, something L in your life...”
“I can’t think of what that is.”
“No one L? Something L?”
“No, I don’t know...”
“Well I do. You’re wrong and I’m right. There is something L. Are you telling me you don’t have a living room? I’m always right. And you’re lying.” (walks back to center stage)
“Try to make ME look bad… name’s probably Lou.”Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 09/23 at 01:24 AMHAIL COLUMBIA for not bowing to the pressure to cancel the forum with Ahmadinejad. The political decision to not allow him to show respect at the 9/11 site shows just how confused the public is about who is to blame for the Blowback of 9/11. While Ahmadinejad is here, the usa should pay him reparations for the 1953 CIA coup and also for the Iranian airliner that the usa shot down. A usa apology and a lot of usa money is owed to the people of Iran. Only when usa taxpayers are held responsible for the actions of those they vote for, only then will things change. I support a movement to increase taxes on usa citizens until reparations have been paid for all usa war crimes.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 09/23 at 11:03 AMMarcel Marceau just died. I’ll bet he had no last words.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 09/23 at 12:38 PMRMJ...16...with the money politicians, ceo’s steal everyday from taxpayers, these parasites are the ones who should foot any bills or reparations…
Posted by joe maine on from 09/23 at 12:51 PMHow could he find words for this:
“...towards the end of his life the great mime’s financial situation was dire.
Although he was a national hero in France who received all the honors of an international artist, he remained very much alone.” http://tinyurl.com/2ohl2s
Posted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 09/23 at 04:24 PMSorry joe...Ah yes, the citizen wants to blame the politician. The grunt wants to blame the General. The General wants to blame the Commander-in-chief. The problem is that everyone wants to blame someone else. Everyone must be held accountable for their own actions and inactions. I don’t think that the complicity of the taxpayers and voters should be ignored. Some people in this country HAVE reached a higher moral plane. They are the tax resisters and those who have gone to Iraq as human shields. All of the rest of us, me included, are complicit in the deaths of 2 million+ Iraqis since 1991.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 09/23 at 04:28 PMRMJ...I agree with 20...I stopped at L.L. Bean on the way home...a lot of made in Sri Lanka tags...don’t know much about Sri Lanka...apparently a very butal dictatorship.
I approached the man at the information center and we talked about this. He said can’t afford to have things made in the u.s. I brought up the point of ex-ceo worth 500 million. If Gorman could afford to live more frugally, that 500 million could do many things for people just getting by, and also pay the employees that HE needs!
Blame...the interaction of so many inequities, emotions, perceptions of what is, what can be, what is real, what is false, the various neurosis, and life circumstances. 500 to 0 When push comes to feeding oneself...0...will not be the target of all the conflicting experiences and emotions and whoever might feel highly objective...and I know there can be many scenarios. So, what is the act of speculation anyhow?
Posted by joe maine on from 09/23 at 07:03 PMRush? You would pick a CANADIAN band for your theme song? That’s worse than flag-burning.
Has anybody checked out “Guantanamerika” (circa 1987) by the great Alex Chilton?
