Ah Mickey...I like this post, the mind, human behavior, behavorial conditioning, habits, addictions, consciousness, learning by imitation. This is all great stuff to think about. And why not?

Good morning Joe Joe and Mickey—The brain—I just saw multiple pictures of mine - via computer - this past Friday. I had an MRI - THURS - (my 4th in 5.5 years) and a short reading by a NEUROLOGIST on FRIDAY afternoon .. My next NEUROLOGY appt. is MONDAY morning. The MRI (wth dye contrast) showed a white spot - PLACQUE - resulting from errant T-CELLS chiseling unabated at the MYLEN SHEATH during periods of auto-immmune weakness. The GOOD-NEWS—not much noticeable change since either 06/03 0r 02/05. THE NOT-SO-GOOD news—I AM still seeing double after several weeks of sinus and bacterial INFECTION. Next step—FINISH ORAL MEDS—move to SIX DAZE of IV SELF-ADMINISTERED STEROIDS ( a home-health aid—LPN OR RN - STICKS ME FIRST—THOUGH I KNOW HOW .. ) to see if I can get my VISION back .. I’ve never gone this long (3 WEEKS)—without standard vision—2 EYES—stereo sight ! DOUBLE VISION was the first diagnosed sign in 02/02 that I MOST LIKELY had a case of RELAPSING/REMITTING MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS - MS - waiting in the WINGS .. NO—(I am not one of JERRY’S LABOR DAY KIDZ - THAT’S MD ..) .. I am an auditory guy - PRIMARY—(though my hearing w/out an aid is restricted)—with VISUAL as my SECONDARY PREFERENCE—and the BIG K (kinesthetic) as the third suit—THE AMERICAN ED SYSTEM USES V-A-K ...as it’s primary method of pedagogy. ONE IS SH*T-OUT-OF LUCK if u can’t follow the bouncing ball in the classroom—PAY ATTENTION—(LOOK/READ)—R U LISTENING TO ME ?? (AUDITORY/VERBAL) ... NOW START WRITING (THE BIG K) ... IF K IS YOUR FIRST PREFERENCE—U WERE PROBABLY analyzed by SCHOOL GUIDANCE as a slow learner—VKA—IF you were an AVK—LIKE ME --U SIMPLY DIDN’T WORK UP TO your CAPACITY—IF YOU WER A VKA—YOUR NAME WOULD BE JOHN BELUSHI OR CHRIS FARLEY—MAYBE JIM CAREY—GREAT VISUAL—OVER-THE-TOP COMMEDIANS .. Hi, joe.
Great article, Mickey. I think I disagree with the Harvard prof though. For many years I believed that old theory - “give me a child who is young enough and I can turn him into anything I want him to be”. I now believe that much of human behavior is determined by neurotransmitters and genetics. Twins separated at birth often have the same personality characteristics. I know that this is not a popular theory because we all want to believe that we are in control and everyone is responsible for their actions.

The latest from the Green Mountain State… Yesterday I received a letter from my former lawyer. He states that he has filed a judgment against me, will place a lien against my home, and will have it auctioned off unless I come up with $2000+ in the next 30 days. It feels like extortion but it is probably legal in Vermont. The Mafia has a higher code of ethics than many Vermont Lawyers. Anybody have any suggestions??????

richie...thanks for thinking about my problem at a time when you have big problems. Public Defender, ACLU, Legal Aid, etc. will NOT help. They restrict their help because their budgets have been cut. They only help in criminal cases when there is the possibility of a substantial prison sentence. China and most other countries have much better judicial systems than the usa. I just received an e-mail from yet another citizen who was injured by a State truck. He just lost his case and will get nothing. This kind of thing happens all the time up here. It never gets in the newspaper and many citizens don’t know about it. A big part of the problem is the Vermont Attorney General who believes that his mission is to PROTECT THE GOVERNMENT FROM THE CITIZENS, instead of the other way around. I tried to expose him during the last election cycle but he is a part of the Democratic machine and only a few of us will go up against him. His office has millions of dollars and teams of lawyers to go up against any citizen. The side with the most money wins. That’s just the way that it is. The word on the street is that the AG was initially appointed because his mother played bridge with Howard Dean’s mother.

RMJ...the government protects themselves from the citizens...yes...and they have the armies...but in relationship to some implications of Mickey’s topic of today...why hasn’t any politician or lawyer or anyone who has bought into the ladder of success bullshit, why are they so subjective [needy parasites] without any hint of mature objectivity?

Their character, ethical development is more lacking than the average person. Unfortunately, there are average people who want to be like politicians...they have inferred, the closer to the president, the closer to God, as some concepts enable some people to think. If corporate religions did not imply this, some people still want to be up a rung or 2 on this ridiculous hierarchical ladder of absolute nothingness. State and church holding hands while molding minds.

What is it about certain religious beliefs that acquire a high degree of behavioral uniformity among the believers of their particular book.
The book might also imply...don’t question anyone of any authority, which means the priests, the ministers, the congressman, your father, mother, the teacher, the policeman, the manager, the supervisor, the guidance counselor and on and on, unconsciously accepting, complying with and many people defend this insanity because they fear their life has been bullshit.........

Hi joe...I agree with part of your critique of religion but sometimes people’s religious beliefs lead to good actions such as the Berrigan Brothers, and the one who started the SOA watch, etc. As far as lawyers go, part of the problem is us. We have been duped into believing that there is a justice system. There is NOT. What there is, is a jobs program for graduates of law schools. A real justice system is non-existent in the usa. There are thousands of people in secret prisons all over the world and one very disgruntled citizen in Vermont to prove that.

I am not totally opposed to all government. I think that it would be an improvement to have a REAL Dept of Justice to protect the rights of the poor, the children, the elderly, the disabled, those abused by employers and other corporations, etc.

RMJ...9...I agree, there is no real justice...my comment is focusing on the mainstream system, the people who buy into and help perpetuate this madness most frequently for a variety of reasons of which none are healthy for a sane society.

There are subtleties that we learn from our indoctrination, that I think effect people very easily, and can creep to the forefront of our thinking and influence decisions and actions...the many layers, defenses, pulled off to discover what really motivates someone to make a particular decision.

All these influences flow from authorities and the abuse of authority that should not exist in the first place. Someone thought we have authority because we have no integrity and the authorities seem to have the least integrity.

Not caring, empathy lacking...this is all very sad…

The drought is serious in the Eastern US: at the now-shrinking semi-wilderness place I’ve been visiting since age 11, there is a creek and natural catch basin that I’ve never seen dry until today. Parts of it were muddy enough to show deer tracks, but no standing water. Just to be on the safe side, let’s outlaw soft drinks. It’s a win-win: take a chunk out of America’s obesity epidemic and stop mixing a crucial resource with toxins. And we could also… hold on a sec. I think that’s Homeland Security at the door.
