Coming Soon: No-Flea Anniversary
Good Morning Mickey and everyone...another very sunny day on the Maine Coast, presently 64 degrees F, 18 C, expecting to reach 75. Inside, sludge capitalism.
I think a flea has a higher level of functioning and is not the parasite that the american business man is.
Posted by joe of maine on from 10/22 at 09:47 AMGrenada, a ticket-puncher’s dream vacation:
“After the American invasion of Grenada in 1983, the Defense Department handed out 8,600 medals, even though no more than 7,200 troops ever set foot on the tiny Caribbean islands. Many of the decorations went to soldiers who got no closer to Grenada than the corridors of the Pentagon.” http://tinyurl.com/yslk92For what it’s worth, “Heartbreak Ridge” isn’t a favorite of Uncle Sam’s Mindless Children - references to poor enlisted men need not apply for propaganda status.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 10/22 at 02:02 PMHello Joe, Zen, and all Expendables. It’s warm, sunny, and downright June-like here today.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/22 at 02:35 PMHi Zen, joe, Mickey and all…
I remember Grenada. I was working at a school in New Jersey at the time. The invasion really upset me. I went to work that day and talked about it with the other teachers. They all seemed confused that anyone would object to any usa invasion. That’s just one more reason that I believe that the entire government owned and operated school system should be shut down and replaced with a single payer, K thru grad school educational system.Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/22 at 02:43 PMBreaking news....right now protesters are occupying the Burlington office of Cong. Peter Welch. Police are expected to arrive at any minute. Cong. Welch ran on a “peace” platform and now refuses to talk to the protesters - even on the phone. The protesters had requested a conference call.
Also today in Albany - there was a large protest of citizens who oppose the Spitzer plan to allow immigrants to get drivers licenses. The level of hatred in the usa is rising.

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/22 at 05:33 PMYou are right, Mickey. Someone said recently that the difference between Americans and Europeans is that Europeans hate the government but love the people. In the USA the people love the government and hate the people.

I think americans might do well to take time every day and stand with Trees...just simply, silently stand with Trees.

RMJ, could you post some links on the Welch office occupation? If there are any, that is…
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 10/22 at 11:49 PMGood morning Mickey, joe, and all
Zen...thanks for asking. This story was NOT covered by most of the outlets where I would expect to find it. It is a buried story that very few, even here, know about. Here is the only link I found - story and video.
http://tinyurl.com/23lxovPosted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/23 at 08:25 AMRMJ, thanks for the link. This reminds me of something a Boomer radical told me about. Back in the early 70’s, when confrontational actions didn’t cause the fundraising ‘n’ schmoozing terror they now do on the left, reports in the larger media would cause others to take similar action. Some genius academic on the left named this phenomena “the contagion effect.” Yep, you can read that again. There’s nothing like effective direct action being compared with disease.
I would have called it “strategic solidarity” or “spontaneous common sense,” but being frozen out of the corporate media, and even without the internet such networks of coordinated action can emerge. That they haven’t is cause for study and documentation.
Captcha sez “peace” but doesn’t know the half of it.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 10/23 at 11:16 AM“spontaneous common sense”... Thanks, Zen. That’s my nomination for the “words of the day”!
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/23 at 11:20 AMNever let optimism affect your mood. For a little while I thought that there was a bit of hope and understanding in Washington - but today Rep. Stark apologized for the remark below. There’s something weird about that apology. He really appeared to be in an almost “AbuGahrib” trance???
In the course of debate on expanding SCHIP funding, Rep.Stark told Congressional Republicans, “You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people, if we could get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their head’s blow off for the president’s amusement.”
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/23 at 01:46 PMGood evening everyone...well, my most immediate frustration is from ‘playing’ with my computer, troubleshooting computer problems...boy, a month at Guantanamo is more inviting.
If I had a brain in my head, I’d throw this thing in the trash...but how would I talk to people that are away?...why don’t I speak to the trees that are in the back yard more frequently and spend less time looking at pixels...!
I became obsessed with trying to fix this damn thing...well, I’m eating pasta while listening to Iranian music...and typing this...Genghis Bush probably wouldn’t enjoy this music, I don’t know if he likes anything...I never liked tunes such as the national anthem...Hendrix version of this piece is the only listen-able arrangement.
...what food can do for ya...yes, I agree, washington can’t be fixed, who would want to try...this page of history seems to be glued down, finding it difficult to move on and politicians prove more than ever, we have absolutely no need for them...an obstacle to anything sane.
Posted by joe maine on from 10/23 at 04:02 PMHey, Joe, as Pablo Picasso sez: “Computers are useless. They can only give you answers.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/23 at 04:08 PMMickey...15...Pablo Picasso...what a very nice name...he said that?
Yes...I need to understand...too much outer stuff happening...too distracted, too enmeshed with so much mental clutter and useless information...however, just like the computer, 2 things can be done simultaneously...distraction, contemplation, awareness of that which is in conflict, yet peacefully observing this conflict while aware of calm...very easy to forget but after some time putting one foot in front of other then doing this with your other foot...advancing with a past.
Posted by joe maine on from 10/23 at 04:36 PMthen along comes this…
The environmental crisis consists of the deterioration and outright destruction of micro and macro ecosystems worldwide, entailing the elimination of countless numbers of wild creatures from the air, land, and sea, with many species being pushed to the brink of extinction, and into extinction. People who passively allow this to happen, not to mention those who actively promote it for economic or other reasons, are already a good distance down the road to insanity. Most people do not see, understand, or care very much about this catastrophe of the planet because they are overwhelmingly preoccupied with grave psychological problems. The environmental crisis is rooted in the psychological crisis of the modern individual. This makes the search for an eco-psychology crucial; we must understand better what terrible thing is happening to the modern human mind, why it is happening, and what can be done about it.
and he concludes with this…
When the final crisis of civilization comes in the 21st Century, the present system will do whatever is necessary to perpetuate itself. People who are in the stranglehold of the false self will support whatever the system does, including the exploitation and destruction of National Parks, Designated Wilderness Areas, and The Wildlands Project (whatever it achieves). Unless people possess an assured, sane psychological core, everything else is in jeopardy. The personal pursuit of sanity is, or will shortly become, the overriding issue for the vast majority of people, and toward this end, each person, isolated and fearful in modern society, must be armed with an ideal or vision of what s/he would like to be and should be. There is nothing better to offer people than a tribal ideal. It is, then, up to each person to do the difficult psychological work of personal liberation that must precede real change. This personal task of healing the mind can be and must be accomplished, to a decisive point, in modern-day circumstances.
