Awareness is overrated

Posted by Mickey Z on 11/12 at 06:09 AM
  1. morning all.

i think part of the problem is that for every message that people transmit in whichever way it is drowned out by the cacophony of nonsense put out by the major news channels, glossy magazines, talk radio, mainstream newspapers etc.

it is a simple question of ratios. for every one person reading znet and things like it there are 20 watching the tv.

  2. as a small extra point regarding that..

as far as i am aware fox news NEVER mentions democracy now on air. they will abuse all other media outlets and moveon.org and bloggers and all that sort of thing but they just dont acknowledge that democracy now exists because they don’t want people to know about it at all.

the reason for this should be obvious enough.

  3. Hello Expendables...from a somewhat chilly Astoria.

You make a good point, Michael. Why should the mainstream media bother debating, say, Derrick Jensen or Chomsky or Arundhati Roy? It’s far more effective to ignore them and thus keep the vast majority of humans unaware that these folks (and many like them) exist.

  4. hello from a very chilly glasgow!

as you say, it is far more effective to siply ignore them.

chomsly often says he doesnt understand why they don’t put him on more because then they could cut him after two minutes and edit it to make him look foolish. but they find it a more effective strategy to ignore him because some people would look it into it more no matter what he said or whatever hatchet job they try to do on him .

  6. One star among millions of stars
one drop of water from the ocean
one branch among the trees in
    the forest
    one child crying among millions
    of suffering children

Is awareness of the correct things?
What awareness is necessary, to precede
    all the violence and hatred?

  7. Good afternoon joe and all...Mickey your point is well taken. I always say that awareness, what people think or believe, what their religious or spiritual belief system is - none of those things matter much. They are about as important as the color of their socks or whether they prefer vanilla to chocolate ice cream. We have to get over trying to transform thinking and focus in on only actions - theirs and ours. The “Big They” have kept us in a loop of thinking. I’m sorry to admit that thinking is not all that it is cracked up to be. Thinking has never saved one life. Only actions count.

michael #1...Your point is also well taken but I think that your ratio of 1 to 20 is a little too forgiving. I would say that the ratio is more like 1 to 1000. We have been shoveling against the tide.

  8. Mickey..."Happy entrails to you...” ,until we meet again, Happy entrails to you...everyone, sing along, Happy entrails to…

  9. I submitted the entire song, so there’s no excuse for not singing along…

Happy entrails to you, until we meet again.
Happy entrails to you, keep smilin’ until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy entrails to you, ‘till we meet again.

    Some entrails are happy ones,
    Others are blue.
It’s the way you ride the entrail that counts,
Here’s a happy one for you.

Happy entrails to you, until we meet again.
Happy entrails to you, keep smilin’ until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy entrails to you, ‘till we meet again.

  10. In Boston, 15 vets and their supporters were arrested yesterday at the parade. They were members of Veterans for Peace.

  13. Awareness, Lesson #2: This is why I agreed to be the Rescue Party’s campaign manager. The changing of minds can is achieved through different perceptions, but never by ideas alone; otherwise Castro could have just shipped photos of his band into Cuba in ‘59.

The problem now is that the ‘Merican left has allowed itself to become virtual; if a .mov of a tree falling is posted and gets no hits, does it make noise? It’s getting too easy for me to make this argument, which could mean I’m full of shyte. But I call them like I see them online.

  14. Zen...great point there about Castro in ‘59. Yep, the Left is mostly virtual with a little hard copy thrown in, BUT WITH NO REAL ACTION. One slightly effective action that we here take often, is to chip away at the dems and repubs but that is not enough. It would take a thousand years to bring about any change just doing that.

Is this on or off topic...Is there a big conference in DC today dealing with UFOs?

  15. Thanks, as always, for the great comments. I’m never surprised when the Expendables talk like this but even a few of the comments this article has provoked are similar. Some folks get it but that’s about as valuable as lots of folks cultivating their awareness.

I say we pronounce December to be National Awareness Awareness Month.

  16. I LOVE that Diderot quote, Mickey!  And you are spot-on re awareness.
Hello from sunny Daylesford to Michael from Scotland, Joe of Maine, Rosemarie and Zen Prole.

And ‘Mickey for President’ - I’ll go along with that!

  17. I’ve been observing a young 21 year old woman about to turn 10 years old. Very obese, extremely immature.
She appears to be functioning from whatever is going on in her head that she thinks is from the world outside her head.

Whatever her needs are and why she has these needs, who knows. It’s easy to conclude she’s still responding to the dynamics of her family, projecting what is going on in her head to the outside world, the people immediately near her. It’s easy to draw conclusions she doesn’t feel very good about herself being so large, she needs so much gratification from people around her and what ever makes her feel ‘good’, sweets rolling across her tongue, attention, so many distractions from her thoughts, perhaps even negative attention is better than none.

So what’s this all about with this young women who always seems to have some gimmick that’s annoying to others?

Why is there a collectivity only among those who share a common denominator that might be only superficial or acknowledged superficially?

The recent example of 18 veterans being arrested for protesting, arrested by police who Might enjoy a police state fore spending endless hours at dunkin doughnuts has not been fulfilling to these cops who might Need to have a ‘meaning’ of their lives, it’s easy for them to follow procedure.

Why, in america is their not a deeper motivation for coming together as a group? Why does it take a shock treatment, such as war crimes to bring those together for otherwise they might not even exchange hellos in this impersonal society.

Are our heads filled with so much crap we seldom have clarity about anything to see, to act with clarity and without fear to truly see what is creating the inner noise in our heads, the distractions from feeling our humanity and in others. Should the common bond be from simply being human and not from being members of a group, ex-soldiers, smoke-jumpers, musicians?

Developing awarenesses can occur for an individual who is not distracted by all the craziness, it can come from sharing insights, experiences, how can an active collectivity occur, single individuals transcending their fears of what if, from acting on something and until this happens what is the individual to do? What can be done during the intervals of external action? I can’t sleep, I’m typing this comment, what else is going on inside me to act upon, the very subtle stuff that needs tending to also, that needs clarity also?

  18. NYPD fires 20 shots, killing a boy holding a hairbrush...bringing back memories of when they killed the man who was holding his wallet. Where’s the outrage???

Posted by RMJ  on  from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 11/13  at  03:01 PM
  19. Sorry, RMJ, but I’m saving my outrage for the specially planned weekend march. Everyone knows that protest is only feasible on our day off.

  20. Sorry Mickey (I know that you are as outraged as I am)...for me, every day is a day of outrage. I have been following the case of the Canadian software engineer who was picked up at a NYC airport and the story gets worse from then on. Mahar Arar wants money and an official apology from the usa. He should get both - a LOT of money from usa taxpayers who don’t have enough collective empathy to cover the head of a pin - an NO sence of justice at all. Hit em’ in their wallets. usa’ers understand that. I would award Arar a trillion dollars to be paid immediately.

  21. RMJ and Mickey...yes...and I want to hear the prosecution word more frequently...our politicians have gotten away with absolutely anything they want for generations...they must know if we don’t like them,it’s not simply a matter, as they’re conditioned to think, they won’t be voted for, or they might be impeached...they need the alarm word...prosecute the bums, the parasites, the war criminals, the men in their ugly suites and stupid neckties, their empty briefcases and their empty character...they all need to be prosecuted, the only word for me that’s synonymous with politicians who take 25 lifetimes to make a decision that a conscious person could make in 15 minutes!!!!

  23. A distinction could be made between positive awareness and faux awareness.

I say that being determines positive consciousness. Maybe the amount of empathy that’s derived from being - that is the key.

I went up to Goucher college to participate in an action that created a simulation of the US/Mexico border. I like this kind of empathy promoting demo.
