Pigeons vs. People vs. Perceptions
Oops - I am the first ‘expendable’ to comment. Full disclosure: I haven’t read the full article on pigeons yet, but they seem to be a plague in every city Mr and Mrs Helga have ever visited.
And not only do I go along with ‘Mickey Z. for President’ but also with ‘Rosemarie J. for Vice-President’.
Greetings from a very warm Daylesford,
HelgaPosted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 11/14 at 08:47 PMAh, you beat me to it. I was going to reference an article in the NYT about that dude on trial in Texas.
Cat lovers vs. Birders!
Oh How the West was Won!Mechanical Hawks? Brilliant!
CAn ROBOCOP be far behind?I’ll sleep better knowing the Pigeon Poop Police are on Patrol!
MZ, any thoughts on the AROD news?
Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 11/14 at 09:31 PMGood morning, Expendables. It’ll be rainy in Astoria today.
Hi Helga.
Tommy: I thought A-Rod was getting some bad advice from his agent all along so maybe it’s good that he’s talking to the Yanks without Boras in the room.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/15 at 05:45 AMha ha ha and i would even go as far as hee hee hee..
this is one of the most absurd things i have ever seen…
Posted by michael on from scotland 11/15 at 06:18 AMMickey...humans wanting to control pigeons, but humans not taking responsibility for human behavior...a few years ago, Maine biologists essentially gave approval for the baiting and trapping of Black Bears, so Maine guides could get tourist hunter dollars for any easy shot of a Bear.
They say the Black Bear population needs to be controlled. Some red-neck even trapped a Black Bear and released it in a heavily populated area to terrorize people for swaying the vote on the Black Bear issue. Is this sick or what?
The local newspaper did allow an article illustrating the need for americans to kill, people, Black Bears, pigeons...kill and trigger happer americans, who few even see their own stupidity that negatively effects all things!
Posted by joe of maine on from 11/15 at 07:20 AMMickey...I have been listening to sports radio all morning for clues that will link A-ROD to this Pigeon crisis...I haven’t heard anything either way.
Posted by joe of maine on from 11/15 at 11:21 AMThere’s lots of droppings in both stories, Joe.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/15 at 01:53 PMJoe from yesterday, thanks for listening. about influences, lately I’ve been exposed to a lot of Balkan and Mediterranean folk, and metal is usually present in the listening pile too.
Posted by owen on from barcelona 11/15 at 02:56 PMOwen..8..thanks for getting back...I wasn’t able to listen..I have dial-up connection at home..sounds very interesting and if I remember correctly, you’re using an intriging array of instruments?
I occasionally listen to Radio Madrid on shortwave radio and I hear some great music on both the Spanish and English broadcasts.
Posted by joe of maine on from 11/15 at 03:16 PMI was going to write something pithy about birds being the cleanup crew for aggregations of humans (or their handiwork, like roadkill) - where would we be without the herring gull, common crow, or rock dove? But then I wanted to know the actual feeding habits of the pigeon [note to the nutcase right: this is called ‘fact checking’], so off to Wikipedia (sic) to find a few links to more serious bird sites.
Well, Expendables, it seems the problem is worse than we thought. Those aren’t just pigeons, they’re FERAL PIGEONS! (cue orchestra) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feral_pigeon
Not to be outdone, the search at Wiki for ‘rock dove’ redirects to ‘rock pigeon,’ nomenclature that was tacked on in 2004 after easily a few centuries of the bird being a dove. This must mean the peace model is now known as the White Pigeon.
The real question, of course, is will the Zionists take down the apartheid wall if birds shit all over it?I’m spent. Try to add 2c worth to a relatively innocent post, and I run into imperial bird scientists. To paraphrase Chief Seattle, “Who speaks for Rock Dove?” Apparently not enough lawyers.

Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 11/15 at 08:29 PMMichael, #4 was funny, but hard on my brain. If intelligent design were real, wouldn’t it be easier to withstand such foolishness? (Captcha sez ‘systems’)
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 11/15 at 08:33 PMThanks, Zen. I’ve noticed that less sites than usual have picked up this article and those that did have seen far less people reading it and/or commenting on it.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/15 at 08:56 PMHi everyone.
How about the guy in Kansas charged with toad licking? The toad venom is hallucinogenic, and toad licking was once quite popular..... now its a crime. The guy was released on bond, the toad is in “custody” at a police crime lab.How crazy is that??
Posted by Frances on from bc 11/15 at 09:31 PMZen...you mentioned the zionist wall, the box, the prison...that some people also want to build in Iraq...I heard the Berney’s shot and beer bar voice of bush say americans are addicted to oil...I read, heard of the increasing number of suicides among war veterans...I get many emails from activists calling only for the impeachment of Cheney...I read about a local congressman who wants to be a senator, states he’s always been against this war, ignoring how many times he has stated support for war and why the troops should stay in Iraq...I listen to a man question if he’s ready to have a commitment to a woman who has two children from a previous marriage...it’s too bad the soldiers that committed suicide turned their frustration, aggression inwardly...I can understand why anyone would want off this planet...and there were people who saw all of this increasing insanity and violence coming generations, centuries ago...how can the stampede toward madness be stopped?
Posted by joe of maine on from 11/16 at 04:38 AMPigeon Problem???
