"America reigns without a rival"
Well, I can only say I agree with Frederick Douglass and will add america has only gotten worst since Mr. Douglass made that statement. In fact just before typing this I was in conversation about american greed and apathy...shows you how wretched my life is...! So my friend said the Fox in her backyard was looking up at the Squirrels in the Tree...then the Fox walked away...now a normal american ceo would have used a rocket launcher on those Squirrels and called this destruction of the entire forest
...efficiency.Posted by joe of maine on from 12/26 at 01:56 PMHi Mickey, joe, and all....
Looks like we survived and made it to the “Day after”.About human happiness...there are a lot of ‘scientific’ experiments going on. One of the recent ones gave some evidence that human kindness and generosity are a result of hormones. Does all of this about brain chemistry mean that we are not responsible for our actions? Virtue and evil are just products of neurons and brain chemistry. That’s a revolting development.

I got a note from “Joe from Oregon.” He sends his love.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/26 at 04:25 PMRMJ...2...are those scientists on some pharmaceutical company payroll...?...prosecute the scientists who are denying humanity, that is innately...good...that is untouched by social conditioning, not life defined by the tyrants, the corporates…
Posted by joe of maine on from 12/26 at 06:32 PMGreat post and quote, Mickey! If I didn’t know for sure that you are an American I’d say you are anti-American, because that’s what many right-wing commentators say about anyone who voices the slight criticism of the US.
And ‘hi’ to Rosemarie and Joe from a quite warm Daylesford. However, it is going to get even warmer - about 100F on Saturday. We’ll be off to Melbourne in a few hours to celebrate my Mum-in-law’s 85th birthday - back on Sunday, so I wish all my fellow expendables a good weekend.
Take care!

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/26 at 09:59 PMNot at all, Mickey! Pleasure ...
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 12/26 at 10:02 PMI doff what’s left of my brain to Mr. Douglass.
Flying into Houston is revealing: a grotesque tangle of multi-level highway interchanges, swaths of cookie-cutter houses like colonies of bacteria, what looks like square miles of refineries by the ship channel, and the San Jacinto monument (with reflecting pool). I make no exceptions for Houston, and think more places could do with a self-critical flyover.
Saw a first edition hardcover “Fight Club” today for $600.
Will likely see some flicks this week, and will add my 2c about “I Am Legend.”
Happy Day After to all the Expendables, and it’s good to see Helga posting again.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Houston, Tejas 12/27 at 02:52 AMHey Zen, as Tyler Durden (of Fight Club) sez:
“Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need ... You’re not your job. You’re not how much money you have in the bank. You’re not the car you drive. You’re not the contents of your wallet. You’re not your fucking khakis ... Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You’re the same decaying organic matter as everything else ... On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.”

GWB & DC: The first rule about our foreign policy-you don’t talk about our foreign policy.
Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 12/27 at 11:55 AMHi Tommy, Mickey, Helga, Zen, joe, and all…
An interesting point made by Ron Paul - the usa should not have fought a Civil War - other countries ended slavery without war. Paul is wrong on most issues, but I agree with his anti-war stance.Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 12/27 at 02:48 PMOnce again...I am reminded of what G. said so often...and I witness this so vividly, frightfully so, every day..."not only has man accepted his enslavement, he has even become proud of his enslavement”
We don’t need washington d.c. to screw us...everyday in the work place, the microcosm of the central government, the isolated, fearful people will be happy to stick a knife in your guts while speaking on behalf of the oppressor...no sense of ethics or morality...follow the laws written by criminals to protect criminals.
There are more George Bushes in america than we would like to accept...how is this rationalized...it can not be by anyone fully awake...on the pie chart of consciousness, our awakened state would represent a line narrower than a hair.
Posted by joe of maine on from 12/27 at 09:22 PMWell, America is drenched in blood, it’s past an (almost) total horror show. That Douglas quote is nonsense, however, because America is typical in many ways and has been rivaled in it’s barbarism. Look around and see.
Posted by 1191 on from the goddamn south 12/30 at 07:40 PMThe part about “shameless hypocrisy” isn’t nonsense. It’s 100% accurate.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Dubya Land 12/31 at 09:01 AMI’ve strongly felt, going all the way back to when I was a kid, that America has got to be one of the most full of shit, just full of pure bullshit, countries ever. Had a strong sense of that. And that’s saying a lot. And it seems to even celebrate it, even consciously recognizing it’s full of shit and openly declaring it is full of shit --like kind of as if to say “#### You World! Were America!” Were #1 Were #1! ___We going to believe whatever we fuckin’ feel like___ and not even care about “facts” and history and all that crap.
That part about “shameless hypocrisy” is true. I didn’t mean to say otherwise, if I did. I do know a great many of us Americans are not so shameless now. I just have been looking more and more at the history of the world and it’s all so gruesome. What people do to people and people do to their environment, and to other animals. It is terrible and well, you know more about it than me.
Anyway, that was the first time I ever posted here. I couldn’t think of a name, and then I thought to use my worker ID number which somehow felt appropriate. You know one thing I HATE about our society? How people define and categorize each other based on their job. That’s another common thing throughout the world of coarse, but I understand more so here than some other places.. But I noticed just now that it has the numbers 9 and 11 in it and I though, heh, that looks like some reference to 9-11, which it aint. Not that it matters or anyone cares, but I guess I do in that I’m not a 9-11 “inside job” person or particularly obsessed with that travesty more than some other things now.
Didn’t mean to go on like this! Caffeine kicked in hard. But Happy New to you Mickey Z. Thanks for this great website.
Posted by 1191 on from the goddamn south 01/01 at 10:15 AMYear. New Year. Why is it that mistakes like that jump out like after I submit my post?
Posted by 1191 on from the goddamn south 01/01 at 10:19 AMThanks for posting, 1191. I sincerely hope you’ll join us on a regular basis.
