Barack Obama: The Rap Sheet
Good morning Mickey—WOWZER ---- Great fact finding.. I created a link to Obama’s mentor in the Senate—Dick Durbin—A buddy of mine who serves as the Chairman of the St Paul Republican Party—sez—“Check Durbin’s record—you’ll see a carbon for Obama—neauvu/old Springfield/Chicago-style politics on a National level”—Jos from Oak Park can add a thing or two about machine politics .. Illinois-style ..—http://tinyurl.com/26rsf9—Durbin was 2 years ahead of “Slick Willie Clinton” in their Georgetown - undergrad daze. Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers, FL 03/06 at 09:44 AMHello Richie and Mickey...well, I stumbled upon something the other day...in effort to control world media propaganda, I discoverd National Public Radio broadcasts on Shortwave radio, frequency, 7811, upper sideband. I don’t know who the target listening area is...yet!
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/06 at 10:19 AMDamn it I want to watch this 7-minute clip of Ralph on the Daily Show but it keeps buffering and stalling. What did you mean by erratic, did he not come off so well? And he’s listed on the screen as and (I) Independent… does that mean definitely not Green?

If someone can find a transcript for it that would be great.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/06 at 11:10 AMHello Expendables. Nice weather here in Astoria today.
James: Nader seemed a little less sharp in his presentation. I’m so used to his low key, logical approach that it threw me to see herky jerky body language and a few sentences that seemed more stream of consciousness than stump speech.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/06 at 11:18 AMI guess we can understand if he’s having trouble containing his frustration and disappointment with everything over the years. Just don’t let that happen on Monday!
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/06 at 11:36 AMHi everyone...James, about Nader. He seemed fine to me. When people age sometimes their movements are not quite as smooth as when they were young, also he has had one minor medical issue that I know about - nothing that would impair his thought process. I was left with the thought that they should have given him more time on the show. Trying to get everything in in a very limited amount of time can be very stressful. James, I believe that he is “I” not Green this time - so that there will be someone else running as a Green. That is a good strategy to expand the exposure of the message and allow room for McKinney. It also proves that he is not running as an ego thing.
Richie, joe and Mickey how’s it going today?
Great front page with all of the important facts, Mickey. I can’t help it if it makes me a little sad. I had wished for a black prez during my lifetime and wished for one that did not have a voting record like that.News is reporting $5/gal gas in California someplace. The issue is not OPEC, it’s the Fed. The value of the dollar should be the focus, right???
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/06 at 03:47 PMI did not mean to imply that there is no need for conservation of oil. It’s just when that issue is brought up, too many forget about those who waste oil on frivolous activities and the burden falls on those who need oil to survive - get to work - etc. I have turned my heat off. Today I paid almost $400 for 100 gal of heating oil. Nationalize the oil companies, impose an excess profits tax, increase milage of all new cars to be produced or sold in the usa, wind-solar-and water power are all waiting for development. It’s just a political problem. Throw the lobbyists out of D.C.

Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers, FL 03/06 at 04:49 PMI hope you’re right about his running “againnst” the Greens, or just not with them, as a good thing because it spreads the message more. I guess you could also look at it as he doesn’t seem interested in taking part in building sustainable movement directly like the Greens would do, like he’s been accused of. Just wait and see if things go better this time than 04, really hope so.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/06 at 05:18 PMJames...I don’t think he is running against the “Greens” - and I do think he is trying to increase the “movement” that he started many decades ago. I see a big difference between a “Movement” and a “Party”. He is a man of ideas. No one person can do it all. The organizing should be left to others. When you think about it, it’s kind of sad that any organizing is necessary. If everyone just voted for the person with the best ideas, no Parties would be needed. It is the idea of Parties that got us where we are. Parties are just a way of pushing through laws, that based on their own merit, would not be acceptable. Would any candidate be acceptable, based on the facts on the front page here today. NO. Obama is accepted because he is part of the Democratic machine. The purpose of political parties is to increase their influence based on numbers instead of the merit of the issues they support. Maybe being a member of any political party is counterproductive. Right?
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/06 at 06:40 PMRMJ, I so wish you could be at my talk on Monday night. Much of what you say above will be covered...including a look at how we use the word “movement.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/06 at 06:48 PMMickey...I sure wish I could be there, too. Any chance that it will be taped? Has anyone told C-span about it? Everyone here and elsewhere should e-mail C-span, and request that it be covered OR that you be on book TV on C-span2.

Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/06 at 07:47 PMYesterday, I was filmed for a documentary about “the end of America.” I was there with feminist author, Naomi Wolf. I asked the director if he’d come to the talk (hoping he’d film it), but he’s leaving for LA on Sunday. I just don’t have the connections to get it professionally shot for free.

I worry very much about Nader. I heard him the other day on a local radio show that has never been friendly toward him or the Greens. http://tinyurl.com/26f8z6
(I think Nader is more testy than ever-- and I think it is because he sees and feels what is happening to our country and feels impotent to do much about it. The last time I saw him, he did not look very well. A man at Nader’s age should be enjoying a golden retirement. Never him.)
A local “nice guy” who calls in to the station regularly to advertise his own progressive credentials (on a program that has largely become a forum for neocon think-tankers), tried to get traction with his admirers by asking Nader Why? Oh, Why? are you trying to spoil things again?
Nader flat-out called him a bigot.
While local listeners were probably appalled-- I secretly cheered: because it was the truth.
I have reluctantly concluded that Matt Gonzalez was probably the best choice as Nader’s running mate. He smoothed over the harsh words. Could McKinney do that? I wondered.
On the program, Gonzalez and Nader soberly committed themselves to pursuing the truth and trying to help third parties. I truly love and admire them all: Gonzalez, Nader, McKinney, and Sheehan. They are the truest and four best politicians America has.

Posted by JOS on from Oak Park 03/06 at 09:04 PMGood mornin’ JOS, Robert, Mickey, and all...About Nader using the word “bigot” - yes, I too, have noticed that he has increased his volume and is using more colorful language. I think that that is a good thing. Too many of us have failed to use accurate language such as “baby killers”.
Mickey, your front page has been picked up and is being circulated by others up here.
Last night I received a phone call from someone on a “Restorative Justice Board”. The caller was happily telling me how he and the others had given a very light punishment to a young high school student who had been “convicted” for protesting the war. The caller, who identifies himself as a peace advocate, shared the info because he thought that I would be impressed at the small punishment that was doled out. I did everything I could to explain that the very act of giving ANY punishment was counterproductive and that the board should have given the protester an award instead of punishment. I failed to make the caller understand the concept that in giving ANY punishment it was showing support for war. When facts don’t matter, words become useless.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/07 at 08:55 AMMickey...please leave the front page up for a while. I just linked to it on the Amy Goodman article at CommonDreams. Thanks.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/07 at 09:13 AMNow on C-span - Congressional hearing on CEO Pay. Chairman Waxman gave a great opening statement.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/07 at 10:22 AMRMJ...ceo’s salary is the greatest manifestation of the imbalances and inherent inequities of this criminal system. Gas, oil, has nothing to do with supplies, geographics, its executive salaries and share holders that are the problem...capitalism.
Wanting...more and more...is this human nature??? Rubbish, I don’t buy that explanation. Capitlism, as if human and social evolution are at a halt!
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/07 at 11:19 AMRMJ, I see you’re back to supporting Ward Churchill’s candidacy… such shifting loyalties! Mickey, not sure about Karen attending on Monday, could be busy with school and stuff but I’ll see. Meanwhile, just a few blocks away in tha neighborhood:
http://gothamist.com/2008/03/07/dc_letters_not.phpPosted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/07 at 11:37 AMHello Mickey...while at your speaking engagement, if anyone asks if it is possible for 300 million people to be unconscious, it’s okay to state I think so, I am absolutely sure...just as taking a fish out of water will remove the Fish life, we have been removed from our innate tendencies to live according to Earth’s laws, not washington’s or any other bureacratic, criminal system of forced, blind obedience.
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/07 at 11:40 AMDon’t say “monster”:
I see the recruiting station bombing news all over the net.
That really saddens me-- of course a bomb draws attention. I suspect a real idiot behind it or possibly an agent provocateur.
I have largely stayed away from the Code Pink protests at the Berkeley recruiting office that have gone on a long time. Yes, recruiters are under huge pressure to enlist others-- but I have always believed that it is a mistake to target the small fish when the true criminals who set the warped agenda are at the top.
Alienating recruiters and soldiers rather than winning them over is a mistake. My experience is that most soldiers join to protect us. They are largely patriotic and idealistic. They don’t join to protect corporate-globalist interests.
Still-- Code Pink’s sincere efforts and other efforts to target the top criminals to slow the war machine have even less impact after a fool action like this bomb.
I am glad no one was hurt.
This action will further fuel calls to build a police state.
Is America safer? (What Bush always asks us-- thinking the self-evident answer is “yes”.)
The answer is “no"-- we live on egg shells of distrust in our country today. We do not know from which direction the next outrage will come from.
My sister has been talking about a fast from the news. I am seriously considering it.
Posted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 03/07 at 12:06 PMThanks, RMJ (and everyone else). I’ll definitely leave this page up for a while if there’s a chance we could reach a wider audience.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/07 at 01:24 PMRobert 31...should this surprise anyone? I think we can only expect this sort of internal unrest...it’s being begged for...everything is ripe.
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/07 at 01:42 PMBtw, since I plan to leave this post up until at least Sunday, let’s try to lure in as many visitors as possible...via forums, blogs, e-mailings, comments at larger lefty sites, etc. At the very least, it could be fun to have liberals forced to face the reality of their hero’s record. At the very most, well...who knows?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/07 at 03:42 PMJames...not shifting loyalties, just being loyal to more than one.
Mickey… I just received my first challenge to the front page. A dem wants to know the source of all the facts. I believe that most came from the Congressional record? I heard Obama say that he wants to increase the size of the military. He makes that statement often.
Robert… my view is slightly different. I think that it has been a big mistake to exonerate any part of the war machine. I would include the little guys too. Without them there would be no war. I also include those who are employed by the weapons manufacturing companies - GE, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, etc.
joe #33… I agree.
We all need a dose of the Fisk photos. Maybe the comparison will make the incident at the recruiting station seem a little more predictable. It’s all about Blowback.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/07 at 06:25 PMRMJ: On the front page, there’s a link called “VIA” and it goes back to Matt Gonzalez’ article with all the facts. As for the actual voting record, it’s public record.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/07 at 06:29 PMThanks, Mickey. The reaction of the dems to the facts is interesting to watch. Mostly, I am getting silence - silence from Obama’s chief campaign worker up here.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/07 at 07:39 PMIt’s much easier to believe the hype.
