Obama ain't no Malcolm

  1. Opposition is the experiential pattern that emerges when humanity alters its life-sustaining bond with nature. Still deep in prehistory, the human species began to define itself on its own terms, to form societies, and to develop culture, largely through the use of language and symbolic systems. The making of culture involves differentiation that can take the form of oppositions, the first being culture versus nature. Social identity develops through conflict (“taking sides”) and social power is acquired by mastery of conflict. What appears to be conflict in nature, such as the interplay of light and darkness, becomes symbolic of what now develops in the self-defined terms of the “human condition.” The human species enters a long experiment in which every conflict challenges it to restore balance, within and without. Opposition always calls for rites and acts of compensation, as C. G. Jung insisted.

What the hell does all that mean???/

  2. Oh, bama.

I saw a snippet from a poll that showed Nader pulling 5% some places, about the difference between McCain and Brand X. Best news I’ve heard in a while, except for the footnote about dirty diapers.

Al Franken was on Letterman and is on schedule to be a bloody DLC sell-out, and faster than his predecessor Paul Wellstone. Will Minnesotans thrash him when the time comes? (Malcolm, you rock.)

Campaign Thumbnails: What’s this rubbish about ‘universal’ health care? Auto insurance is universal. Health care needs to be single-payer. This little fraud will be in the front rank as the year wears on.

  3. Zen..2..I have a problem with Franken..and in my opinion, he will fit right into this political system of nothingness! I simply can’t believe anyone would buy into this person, who even as a comedian...in my opinion...was absolutely terrible...where the hell did this character come from...does his uncle own TV networks???

I agree, as long as authorities are willing to resort to violence to maintain...’their lifestyles’...they will not give an inch..I have no optimism the greedy, the wealthy will arrive at some kind of enlightenment..in that case, what is the first form of action...?

  4. Check out who’s polling at 11% here:

Only problem is that they might steal votes from Nader, but still.

  5. Hello Expendables...from windy Astoria. Zen: I’ll be posting some single payer stuff here very soon. There’s actually yet another (doomed) bill in Congress.

  6. Hi all...I just got home from a very busy day.

Since many here don’t indulge in much mainstream radio/TV, maybe some are not aware of the very ugly racist smear campaign going on against Obama. I wish that Obama was a “Malcolm”. He’s not. I will, of course, continue my decades old 100% support of Nader, but what the right-wingers (and maybe some Clinton supporters?) are doing to smear Obama is not right. I would defend anyone who was the victim of anything like this. I would even defend GW Bush - that is how strongly I am opposed to this kind of racist character assassination which is saturating the airways.

People here at Mickey’s are opposed to Obama because of his voting record and his policies - that’s a lot different from what is coming across the airways. I will continue to oppose Obama’s policies, while at the same time I will defend his right to support any religious leader he chooses, attend any church he chooses, and his right to not have the statements made by others reflected back on him. I admire his understanding of why some people might hold the, probably false, belief that AIDS was a product of the US government. Maybe the US government didn’t do it, only because they hadn’t figured out how to make the deadly virus first, before it occurred in nature.  Many in the black community remember Tuskegee. Many in the white community need to be reminded of that.  Thanks for letting me vent. It is my gift to myself on the 5th anniversary of my arrest.

Hummm, first day of Spring and it is snowing.

  7. Mickey, Zen, Joe --- It’s times like the present when I am reminded of courageous stands—Muhammad Ali stands at the forefront of my American heroes—one whom to this day remains as one of the most recognizable people in the WORLD—I’m referencing the outcome of his historic case—which lingered in the courts for five years—66’ to 71’—Obama—good luck—let’s see where you will be one year from today—http://tinyurl.com/2humzm—I enjoy the poetry of ALI—so here’s a clip to refresh your memory—http://tinyurl.com/2yfe6l—AND MALCOM X ON THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOUSE AND FIELD ... defined by another great ORATOR of our life and time-- http://tinyurl.com/27n2ol--- and how bout’a lil bit of Lightnin SAM HOPKINS to put it all in PERSPECTIVE—in HIS OWN WORDS…—http://tinyurl.com/ywprvr—stand down—OBAMA—ALI—MALCOM AND LIGHTNIN ARE IN THE HOUSE—richie

  8. Good point, RMJ. Obama is taking a lot of heat for things that genuinely shouldn’t matter. It’s quite an illustration of how backwards, blind, and racist America is that the worst thing the right wing can manage is Obama’s middle name or what his pastor says. The end result is a general public that sees Obama as a “liberal” who wants to change things. The issues, as always, are ignored. The richer get richer, the sick get sicker, the bombs continue to fall, eco-systems decline and vanish, and American Idol is down to its final 10 contestants.

  9. Easter Greetings from a somewhat cooler Daylesford (74F) to you, Joe of Maine, Zen Prole, James, Rosemarie, Richie and, of course, Mickey - and any expendables who will comment after us.  We have my mother-in-law with us over Easter - she is 85 but still quite fit.

‘The end result is a general public that sees Obama as a “liberal” who wants to change things. The issues, as always, are ignored. The richer get richer, the sick get sicker, the bombs continue to fall, eco-systems decline and vanish, and American Idol is down to its final 10 contestants.’
I quite agree with you, Mickey #8) but would probably still vote for Obama if I were an American.  Am I too much of a ‘lesser evil’ person?  You be the judge.

And again - HAPPY EASTER to all of you.

Mickey, James, Zen, RoseMarie, JOS, Joe, Helga—and yet to “check-in” Expendables --- Happy Easter—It’s snowin’ in Minnesnowta—yup—and I won’t get back to Ft Myers till’ April 6th—It’s our first Easter without mother Frances and papa Stan—The sister who helped raise me—and my older brother will be with us in St Cloud for an “indoor” pic-nic… With in-laws and “outlaws” we’ll be at 13 folks this Sunday ... If u find yourself out this way, let me know and I’ll give you directions !! I’ve been doing a lot of reading and listening the past several days on the life and times of Malcolm X ..... A true gentleman-warrior/Scholar .. Obama is blessed with wisdom and insight as well—It’s rough that he has to sell his soul to a Political Machine to be listened to!!  I recommend taking a look at Stephen Marks—“Confessions of a Political Hitman”—http://tinyurl.com/2bjcs7—and give a listen to his interview on NPR—http://tinyurl.com/2cms3c—to witness how “dirty-a-game” politics is........ I wouldn’t trade places with Obama, Hillary or McCain—Soooo—on a happier note—a lil travelin’ music please—http://tinyurl.com/25ade3—“In the Easter Parade”—smile .. richie—captcha sez “L*O*V*E* ....

  12. RMJ...6...I don’t know that AIDS was caused by nature...there has been some suspicion that it was a result of nice people experimenting...and experimenting on other people???

    Integrity among politics...never saw it!

  19. Yo Mickey Z-- Remember Stalin’s “Show Trials”? This
is a “Show Election”. The successor has already been picked. They’ve all been briefed. AIPAC is in charge. Since betrayal is the current game-plan, the bigger the promises, the deeper the betrayal. On the McCAIN side-- he wouldn’t have to lie. He’s already promised world annihilation-- for that’s what “War for 100 years” means.
