Links for the adventurous (well, relatively speaking)
Then there’s this website, all the kids seem to like this but I just don’t get it:
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/
Is it satire, or serious? Is it important to our lives? Is it racist because it used the word “white” in a not clearly derogatory way?
Man, it’s sunny out, I should probably go outside and stare at computer screen all day.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 04/18 at 06:53 AMJames...1...It’s beautiful here on the coast of Maine...I stare at the computer screen all day at work...don’t get paid much for doing so. I noticed once again this morning, the price of walnuts increased...my pathetic hourly wage does not increase. If cost of living keeps increasing and wages don’t increase...what do we have? Sanctioned Poverty...and capitalism makes sense???
None of the worlds...ism’s...make any sense, they only retard social advancement and destroy all life and resources...what do we have...a world system that is only beneficial to a handful of greedy bastards...so these bastards think, due to their limited understanding of any god-damn thing!
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/18 at 09:16 AMAfternoon all,
My favourite line from the hedgefund story:
“There is nothing wrong with it — it’s not illegal,” said William H. GrossJames - Ugh. Must be a teenager thing. Change the name to “stuff stupid/smelly/ugly people like but I think are lame”. “White” works better in convincing idiots that the writers opinions are ‘real’, for some bizarre reason; in contrast only elites want non-toxic food or a national health service. If it was funny, maybe you could forgive it.
Posted by Mew on from a desert in London 04/18 at 09:22 AMHere’s a headline...Pope meets US abuse victims...all 300 million of us??? Perhaps the pope can give the american poor some of his millions$
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/18 at 12:34 PMJust did another scan of today’s headlines...good grief what a nightmare. Bennie Knotsandyahoo the non-human zionist has much to say, apparently he’s going to run for top Gun of Israel?
There needs to be a conscious shift somehow. Dying happens faster than evolution.
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/18 at 01:00 PMHello Expendables...from summer-like Astoria. Welcome, Mew.
Joe has the two lines of the day:
Pope meets US abuse victims...all 300 million of us???
AND
Dying happens faster than evolution.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/18 at 01:05 PMAnd remember Outlaw Josey Wales? See Clint’s line to Bounty Hunter #1:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075029/quotesAnd actually his lines with Ten Bear were pretty cool too.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 04/18 at 01:13 PMThe Outlaw Josey Walesis a movie white people like.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/18 at 01:14 PMDamn it! Can’t win.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 04/18 at 01:26 PMCan anyone makes sense of NYC’s hypocritical mayor (I spent a night in jail because of his bending over for the RNC ‘04!)
http://gothamist.com/2008/04/18/bloomberg_excit.php#moreAlso, to understand my anxiety, see your post from a year ago. Sorry, couldn’t help mentioning it.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 04/18 at 01:55 PMre an old post.....
Mickey, tomorrow is National Record Store Day.
Lots going on in your neck of he woods. NYC still has its fair share compared with most places.
Actually there are some cool places out here as well.I know...pro shopping and all...but sounds like a fun idea/alternative to the mega store mentality of our economy.
Ciao
Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 04/18 at 02:18 PMHello Tommy, James, joe, Mickey, Mew, and all…
The sun has finally returned to the Green Mountain State. It’s a good thing, too. People are starting to talk about survival tactics for next winter. I don’t think many will make it. It will take more than “talk” and talk is all we’ve got. The price of fuel oil is now $4.10/gal - that means that people will be chopping up their furniture for heat. I shut off my heat a long time ago and the house stayed at 55 but need oil to heat hot water. All the gas up here is now 10% ethanol. Seems a shame to put that in cars while people in Haiti are starving. Fuel efficiency of autos could easily be improved but there is no massive movement in that direction. The truckers are organizing. Will they be the driving force to bring about change? I have advocated for mass transit up here. There is none. Instead there was a push by the government to extend airport runways - that would help a very small number of the wealthy. Are the Black Panthers backing Obama? Somebody, tell me something to be hopeful about, please. As the man on Main Street said today, “All of this is too hard to take while you’re sober.”

http://www.vimeo.com/257080Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/18 at 03:22 PMRMJ...12...something to be hopeful about...well...walk to the creek and listen to the water trickle over rocks, and listen to the birds, see plantlife getting greener...these are a few of my favorite things...Coltrane’s version was the best!
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/18 at 03:27 PM‘zenprole’ is suitable for a knuckle tat. On my thumbs I’ll get a yin/yang and an AK-47.

Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 04/18 at 04:59 PMZen...thanks for the Spanish Socialists.
Mickey...Yes, thinking about Nader helps.
joe...you painted a beautiful picture with your words. I think I am feeling a bit better. Yesterday was “green grass day” here. It is amazing how you can go to bed and everything is brown and then wake up the next morning and suddenly everything is green. Every year when that happens it is a big “WOW” for me - sort of makes me think that maybe there is a Greater Intelligence behind all of this. (I had to include that last thought in honor of JOS.)
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 04/18 at 06:48 PMGreat links, Zen.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/18 at 08:44 PMThat site - stuff White People Like ..is only not racist to people who don’t understand racism.
Human beings are one race. We have variations such as skin colour - but a healthy human being will behave within an expected range of behaviour found in his immediate environment if born there.
We are racist to think otherwise.
Justin Podur sez that racism is the entire racial caste system and all it’s parts.
Wole Soyinka sez it is just as sick to love the ‘negro’ as to hate him. (good at singing etc) ... cos it’s a stereotype.
If the blog is a satire - it fails at this. And by attributing any sort of behaviour to ‘all white people’ is racist. Only white people have large music collections ... please!
Where do the members of the vegan radical band Propagandhi fit into that site?
Posted by Andy on from Shanghai 04/19 at 02:14 AMRMJ...there was a very loud Owl hooting away this morning...no other sounds could be heard...[except for my tinnitus]
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/19 at 06:36 AMif you’ve just had your breakfast...do not read this article:
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Report_Clinton_slams_MoveOn_at_private_0418.html
first, we get a line from Hillary...then we get Moveon’s reaction...and then the “progressive” bloggers at the end.
Posted by JOS on from Oak Park 04/19 at 08:22 AMJOS: Your link provides a fine illustration why positive social change will never, ever result from the actions of liberals.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/19 at 11:49 AMThanks for the knuckle tattoo link. Check out Carl Zimmer’s science tattoos:
Posted by Buddhamonkeydevil on from USSA 04/19 at 02:44 PMJOS, your link reminds me of the League of Nations and a certain dictator or three. “Break out your ideological handbags, ladies! We’re goin’ a-swattin’!”
Spring has arrived. Music for when it’s warm enough to feel your fingers ‘n’ toes: http://tinyurl.com/5rduxl I the piano puts this one into the stratosphere.
Good News Dept: comedian Patton Oswalt is making a northeast swing and will be in Providence next month. Tickets are *not* through TicketBastard and thus are only $25. I’m there. Check out the cool Lovecraft-type poster: http://tinyurl.com/6hpd2y
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 04/19 at 02:58 PMWow, Mickey- thanks for all those links for the adventurous - so much reading material. Here’s my link to a piece by Eliot Weinberger whose essays collected under the title ‘What Happened Here - Bush Chronicles’ I am still reading - this piece has become rather famous since the London Review of Books printed it:
http://www.lrb.co.uk/v27/n03/wein01_.html
And 5 years later, the war still goes on - of course it started before 20 March 2003 ..Pope meets US abuse victims...all 300 million of us???
Priceless, Mickey!
Hi, Joe of Maine, Mew,James, Tommy, Rosemarie, Zen Prole (and the links keep coming thick and fast), Andy, JOS and buddhamonkeydevil. Was actually heartened when I heard about the Spanish re-electing a socialist government but disheartened when I heard about Berlusconi’s success in Italy. In Daylesford another sunny and not too cool autumn day has just dawned. I hope all your Sundays will be good!
All best from down under to over there.
