Yeah, it's time for pre-summer re-runs again

  1. Mickey, I just watched the Greg Palast video you posted in the comments yesterday, about how the 2008 election has already been stolen and McCain has already won. This has to be stopped, obviously, otherwise Democrats might not have the opportunity to crawl up their own asses in self-satisfaction when one of their own gets to fuck things up for a change.

Oh, this looks fun: Monbiot vs. Bolton.

  2. I agree, Keir. One of the worst aspects of Bush stealing the 2004 election from Kerry was that Dubya deprived me of the pleasure of watching the Anybody-But-Bush crowd try to explain why their hero was not changing anything.

  3. I’m planning on being a fly on the wall at the usual Dem partisan haunts should their candidate succeed the Crawford Caligula to the throne; that and periodically asking them how that “ending the war” and “ending torture” thing is working for them. I expect to be banned multiple times over at DKos.

  4. Yeah, I hope those liberal types are signing up for yoga and Pilates classes. They’re gonna need all their flexibility to do the contortions necessary to spin Obama as an agent of change.

  6. I’ll likely be recycling an old article that a friend of mine wrote back in the 1980s - “So, where’s the change?” (appeared in Pressure #4 back in 1985 or so - was a nice little anarchist zine while it lasted). Those faux progressives are going to need to be double-jointed acrobats.

  10. Hello All...my message to all politicians on this planet is...I don’t want you...you’re the greatest liability to all life...I don’t need you...now, to get on with building something new...the past is just that...this, my comment is already irrelevant.

  14. Thanks for that, JOS. This sums it up:

Contact is usually a disaster for these remote tribespeople, who live a life probably unchanged for more than 10,000 years. Even if the loggers do not shoot them (which they often do) or force them off their land, diseases against which these isolated humans have no resistance typically wipe out half an uncontacted tribe’s numbers in a year or two.

  15. Great catch, JOS. It’s been a while, but I remember social psychologist James Jones making a roughly similar point as he decimated the contact hypothesis of prejudice reduction by pointing out that contact between the European colonialists and the peoples of the African peoples was nothing short of disastrous for the peoples of the African continent. Obviously the same holds true for the first nations peoples in the Americas, from Columbus to the present day.
