Shape of things

  1. I thought you might like The Road, Mick.  I think that was me who recommended it at one time or another.

  2. Sorry, JOS, I forgot it was you. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. What did you think of the book?

  3. JOS: I fixed the reference on the main post.

  4. I guess the ending was a bit of a let down...but what stays with me is the feeling of horror the bulk of the book portrayed so well...the horror of what the end result might be like of or current destructive actions.

  5. Obama’s raising half a billion?  Jesus.  I can’t even fathom how much they’ll raise in 2012.

  6. Man, “change” is expensive…

  7. The Road movie out in a few months--

  8. Can’t imagine a movie capturing the book’s soul but who knows? As for me, the road movies I like typically star Hope and Crosby.

  9. I don’t think Hollywood can effectively film “The Road.” It’s way too terrifying (then again, the cast and director are a start). Hopefully I’m wrong about this, ‘cause the novel is an important work and deserves the most screamingly graphic, unsentimental filming possible- something to make “Children of Men” look like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Didn’t take Oh Bama long, did it? There seems to be a lag in liberal excuse-making, however. Care to tackle that on Kos, MZ? If you do, be sure to pre-empt race-baiting of Ralph Nader.

  10. After the success of No Country for Old Men I’d be surprised if a Road movie hadn’t been planned. I should check the book sometime, since the plot synopsis did kinda sound like stuff that had been done a very often before.

  11. I just heard the sad news that George Carlin has died.

  12. Maybe it’s because of cool people who die too young, or I’m off to the proofreading sweatshop, but I can’t get the lyrics to the Clash’s Magnificent Seven out of my head.

  13. Zen: I just haven’t had much ambition to write articles lately.

  14. Oh, man. What a loss. I was lucky enough to see Carlin two years ago, and the guy was still a flamethrower. Most people have forgotten about his Supreme Court case, which was a blow against censorship.

MZ, nevermind the Folding Oh Bama article...it’s hardly worth discussing. But I’m sticking to my Nader race-baiting prediction, coming soon to a media toilet near you.

Lookit the Yankees streaking along, though I need to note the Cubs have 48 wins.

  16. This week’s tarot card is The Devil…

my sister found an interesting quotation:

I do not fear Satan half so much as I fear those who fear him.

Plus, she’s posted an interesting commentary:
