Once upon a time...

  1. goos points on our continued losses over the past decades.

stories such as the one I just read at the beginning of the Carlin’s last interview link reinforce my beliefs in those mystical forces we do not understand...how did it come about that Carlin would do an interview he described as

‘Finally, after two hours, he gently mentioned that his arm was getting tired from holding the phone. “I really appreciate all the thought you’ve put into all these questions. Really, it’s the most complete interview I’ve ever done,” he said. “Is it tomorrow yet? I think it is.”’

just a few days before his death.  I can’t wait to read it.

  2. goos points?  what’s a goos point?

  3. Not sure what a goos point is, JOS, but it sounds promising.

  4. Fascinating Carlin interview-- while reading it, I was thinking of Mumia Abu-Jamal whose prison radio broadcasts also display an abiding concern for penetrating reality and finding freedom, wit, and a personal poetic inflection.

When I first heard about him some years ago I figured he was a “cop-killer” merely because the broadest consensus said so.

I had a lot to learn-- and hope I am still learning.

Every one of Mumia’s broadcasts is a gem of eloquence--

Those here who admire Nader will certainly thrill listening to his latest: http://tinyurl.com/66g4az

Elsewhere, Dave Lindorff is asking if Obama is not really Hillary Clinton in corporal form.  A very sharp essay that will be a definitive resource, I think, in years to come: http://tinyurl.com/594yds

  5. I am feeling a general distress-- seeing another relatively quiet day here at the Cool Observer.

I hope I am not dampening things with my input-- do others ever get that feeling?

But I’ve another link to share from someone else whose words have the consistent ring of truth, or as he might say, the lost ability to reason empiracally-- Eric Larsen-- who quotes Mickey at:

I am still lingering over his recent book, A Nation Gone Blind-- highly recommended.

  7. Hello Expendables...from humid NYC..

Robert: I am also bummed that both traffic and commentary have plummeted on the site. The dip in traffic is probably due in part to the fact that I haven’t been writing articles on other sites. The lack of commentary is another story. Certainly not anyone’s fault, per se, but perhaps symptomatic of a general feeling of distress.

  8. Hi Mickey, Robert, JOS, and all…

Mickey, traffic is slow everywhere. Hopelessness, burn-out, apathy - a growing acceptance of powerlessness.

    JOS...Did I wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

I have not yet read the Carlin interview.  One of the things that I heard him say recently was about how he distrusted “groups” - all groups. Before you know it they start wearing armbands, adopting a flag… Reminds me of what Click and Clack said - that we all should break up into groups of ten, because any more than ten becomes unmanageable.

Great cartoon there on the front page !  My VFP friends will like it.

Right along side of me in the book case I have “Steal This Urine Test” and “Woodstock Nation”. I do not have “Steal This Book” because I could not steal it from the library.

The wildlife is fighting back. Did you hear that it was muskrats that caused one of the levees to breakthrough?

  9. Thanks, RMJ. I just now added that cartoon. Good catch.

  10. This is off topic, but as I sit here I am hearing the blasts of a “hail cannon” on the other side of the mountain.  That’s the latest controversy in town. Bet most of you don’t know what a “hail cannon” is.  I just learned about them myself… another attempt of man to outsmart Mother Nature.

  11. I looked it up, RMJ. Human beings might be considered funny if they weren’t so pathetic.

  12. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT...wasn’t it in August 1953 that the USA destroyed the Democracy in Iran.  Here we go again. And we wonder why they hate us.

“WASHINGTON , June 29 2008 (Reuters) - U.S. congressional leaders agreed late last year to President George W. Bush’s funding request for a major escalation of covert operations against Iran aimed at destabilizing its leadership, according to a report in The New Yorker magazine published online on Sunday...”

  13. “...One has to ask the question, how many civilians have been killed by Iran with nuclear bombs? If Iran has never killed anyone with a nuclear weapon, maybe weapons in Iranian hands would be less dangerous than nuclear weapons under the control of a nation that has a history of using them to kill civilians....”
From an old RMJ article on DissidentVoice.

  14. One day no one will leave any comments anyplace on the internet. There will be no new posts, no new articles, no new webpages. There will be no bloggers, no web designers, no ISPs. There will be no internet.

    It will be okay.

Meanwhile we’re here and there. We’re gone and then we’re back. And then gone again.

A NYT magazine article this weekend on the much declining birthrate in Europe provided a lot of food for thought.

I am not going to be distressed unless I have to be.

  15. To both RMJ and Keir, I declare: Well said…

  16. What can I say:  great poems, great interview, great cartoon, etc.  IOW:  this is my favourite blog, even if I’d (still!) call myself a ‘lesser-evil person’, unlike the Cool Observer and most other expendables.

It is a rather dreary day in Daylesford - once the rain stops, I’ll wander into town.

Be well, JOS, Robert B. Livingston, Rosemarie, Keir and Mickey!

  17. remember we are the expendables...we don’t really fit in with others...whether they be conservative, liberal or whatever.  There aren’t many of us out there I guess, hence the lack of traffic.  I like to think that the lack of commentary is due to our desire for quality over quantity.  So keep your heads up…

Thanks for the birthday wishes RMJ.

  18. Thanks, JOS. And hello Helga.

    There’s a new/old post up now.
