Humans vs. Oceans (a reprise)

  1. One of the big upsides I can see to the current reduction in jobs is that maybe, just maybe, those abruptly out of work might start thinking about the bigger picture (once they get burnt out on the search for a replacement gilded cage....)

Yeah, too little, too late - but what can you do?

  2. Hi subgenius and all yet to arrive…

Mickey, about your poem - my thoughts exactly.

I have not had time to thoroughly check out Richard Marcus - is he implying that we should not do all of those things?  I would tend to agree with him in that case. Too often the suggestions put the burden on the little guy. Also some unintended consequences (mercury? in the new type light bulbs create a disposal issue, many already only use their cars for getting to and from work, many already endanger health and tempt frozen pipes by setting the thermostat too low, etc) I guess my point is that the focus is misdirected. We should be looking at the big causes of pollution such as war, industrial damage to the environment, corporate destruction of the rain forest…

About trees...when I moved here I planted a lot of them. I am a tree hugger. Many weeks of non-stop rain has caused many problems for many people. I have been working in my drainage ditch for so long that I am hoping that wearing mud-covered clothing soon comes into fashion. Back to the tree issue - my favorite very large plum tree, 25 years old, is now horizontal - blown over in the soft water logged soil. As I have been saying for a long time, I need a man - preferably one with muscles and a chain saw. Hey, think ‘free fire wood’.

Now, I am off to gather the animals in 2s, and start building an ark.

  3. Hello Expendables. We’ve got lots of rain here, too...but nothing like what RMJ describes. Good luck with the ark.

As for Marcus, he wrote that in a review of a Derrick Jensen book. The point, as I see it, is that those measures can sometimes be helpful but they pale in comparison of what needs to be done and they obscure the real criminals.

subgenius: It’s interesting how folks suddenly downsize and think “greener” when money gets tight, huh?

  4. Too much rain in Brunswick also, too much corruption in america, North Atlantic ocean is losing it’s salt, Americans are losing their minds, missiles going through in Europe pointed at ??? Assistant to Obomber states, “we don’t need the Russians” and who the hell in their right mind would want or need us?

Cynthia Mckinney in jail in ZionLand...Is Obomber going to rescue her?

Political coup in Honduras, one coming in Turkey and we bump into buildings due to focusing on cell phones and eyepods as we stumble down the street oblivious to everything. If americans purchased more eyepods and eyeshadow the economy would ‘pick-up’. Well put the economy in your pickup and drive off a goddamn cliff!

  11. I love visiting here at Mickey’s website, first, because I am not forced to.

Like forced to watch TV this morning.

I tried to shut it out, but I couldn’t.

On Good Morning America it was a soul-singin’ “Brotherhood from Sea to Shining Sea.”

On the Price Is Right it was Armed Forces Day.

“We’ve got a brand new War for You!  Come On Down!”

Behind Door #3:  An all expenses paid vacation to Davos, a winning bid to eat lunch with Warren Buffett-- and An inflatable Hot Tub!

    Titter titter, SPIN!

(Why do poor, uneducated people find dignity in our culture only by putting on a uniform?)

    Sigh.

Why do I feel like shit?  Because I ask these questions? and mock our culture?

...when “it’s (supposed to be) all good?”

    Best wishes--

  12. Robert 11,...The way to deal with an unruly TV is to take it up to the 4th floor and with great force, throw it onto the sidewalk outside.

If you are limited to ground floor level, get a 22 ounce claw hammer and proceed to alter the pixels.

If neither of the above are possible, simply walk away. But I would shoot for the first option. It would be fun.

  13. Hello again. Robert, nice to see you commenting again.

The excellent Bill Blum does it again:

  14. We have quite a bit of rain in Daylesford, too, but again:  not half as bad as the one described by Rosemarie.  And by sheer coincidence I have just printed Bill Blum’s latest Anti-Empire Report, Mickey # 13.  Thanks for the link anyway - well worth clicking on.

‘We should be looking at the big causes of pollution such as war, industrial damage to the environment, corporate destruction of the rain forest…’ Too right, Rosemarie - but I would add unrelenting population growth and the strain 6.5 billion people (there are forecasts that this planet might house as many as 9 billion people in 2050, unless it is trashed completely by then) as another big cause.

Kindest regards also to sub-genius, Joe of Maine, richie and Robert B. Livingston.  That’s quite a line-up of mindless TV there - reminds me of similar programs on Australian TV.

Have a reasonably good weekend, all of you!
