Every dog has its day
Cats and Dogs...something I’ve had on my mind occasionally for past 6 years...some like the warm and fuzzies when seeing a blind person with a seeing eye dog. Not only must the human comply with rigid, capalist, work schedules, the Dog must also comply, rigidly, also against innate tendencies to the man-made world.
The blind person is usally appreciative of the dogs help and treats the dog with great kindness and compassion, even removing the working harness as frequently as possible to liberate the animial from its bondage, however, from the seeing eye dogs I’ve known, this whole thing is cruel to both dog and blind mate. A compounded problem, due to this militant socio-economic system.
The upside to this is the love exchanged between human and dog...much of the time.
Posted by joe of maine on from 04/14 at 09:17 AMDogs ‘n’ Cats: domestication of pets originally included an evolutionary bonus; dogs get a substitute for the pack and provide protection, cats get shelter and mind the rodents. Now, neoliberalism is having at this long-term arrangement. Cats should go on strike (like they aren’t already!) and pit bulls should march on D.C. As for that ‘hood, the city laid off the dog catcher 2 years ago.
Almost Tax Day: About once a year, Parade runs a snippet about corporate tax abuses. The first one I saw was about ‘82. The drop in corporate tax payments since the 50’s is a large smoking gun of overall decline, and perhaps why the wealthy get so exercised about taxes - “13% on $12.5 million? Outrageous! I only paid 4% on my business.”

Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 04/14 at 09:45 AMHello Expendables. It’s sunny and bright but still a little chilly in Astoria.
Idea: Aim the roving dog packs at the corporate fat cats.

Happy Monday to all the Expendables.Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 04/14 at 05:35 PMFunny thing is that I was hoping to make more posts than usual this week...but now I might need to leave things up longer to make sure we get everyone involved.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/14 at 06:21 PMGood morning, my fellow Expendables.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/15 at 04:02 AMNo, Thank You Dept.: This has been feared by the owners and rulers for almost twenty years now http://tinyurl.com/2vyoh4
It’s a fine example of the economic term ‘moral hazard,’ which is normally applied to poor people and the bare means of survival. I just wish someone would tell Ben Bernanke and company that it’s tough love and for their own good.

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/15 at 07:57 PMGood morning/night, Mickey - and Joe of Maine, Zen Prole, richie and James. Thanks for another interesting post, Cool Observer - and thanks for all those comments and links coming from the expendables. Very similar stories about people leaving pets behind could be told about certain Australian neighbourhoods.
Just returned to Daylesford after spending three days in Melbourne, where I got everything I wanted. Among other things, I bought a great collection of essays by Eliot Weinberger, ‘What Happened Here - Bush Chronicles.’ I’m sure his name rings a bell here ..
Ciao,

Here’s a great book - read bits and pieces today, and have ordered it:
http://www.lrb.co.uk/v30/n05/lanc01_.html‘Flat Earth News’ - describes the present state of journalism in the UK, but applies in the US and Australia as well.
