Posted by Richie on from N FT MYERS FL 10/19 at 08:21 AMHello Expendables from rainy Astoria. Sending good health vibes to Brother Richie...and wondering where the hell everyone is today.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/19 at 04:29 PMHugs to you, Richie.
Mickey...I have been super busy today but will return later.
Here is a link to my latest.

http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_686.shtmlPosted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/19 at 05:19 PMRichie… I am sad that you are sick. I cannot think of anything uplifting to say to cheer you.
I wish I could just give you a hug.Mickey...I like the way you used GOD in yours. News just said that one of the candidates who is creeping up in the polls will eliminate Social Security. Ron Paul who gives good answers on the war sometimes, is wrong on most everything else.
About fuel...many people don’t have options - no public transportation, solar expensive and unreliable some places. Maybe it should become socially unacceptable to use fuel for NASCAR, private planes, recreational boating, etc.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/19 at 06:10 PMGood evening everyone…
Yes...I occasionally heard that saying...’the good old days’. I guess everyone had their version of what that meant. Within my time on this planet, I thought the good old days referred to the ‘50’s? I don’t know what was so good about those days and frequently thought about what was being referred to. The nothingness years. I guess for many people, if there is nothing, there isn’t anything..to be concerned with, to worry about, to be happy about..neutral?
Well, I agree, there never was any good old days and the crap about the good old days being good was simply crap, space talk, people wanting to be different and their only reference was their memory...oh...the memories...not thoughts of a future. It has been said, alcohol kills memory cells, probably other cells as well. Maybe the good old days meant someone was too damn drunk to be aware of anything?...escapism.
The late ‘60’s was a period of interesting time...I can’t call it the good old days, however there was a glimpse of something, that I think many people described as being different, what ever the hell that means for every individual...LSD can certainly create a different experience and as a friend once said, “I can’t tell if I did too much acid...or not enough.”
Perhaps an accumulation of changes, and for the individual, externally, internally, the effects, the response to.........

The aspiring for something ‘higher’, higher what?
So...the intentional effort to become more aware, conscious, perceptive...religions might speak of aspirations to be closer to a ‘God’, and what did, does that mean? The higher self, with greater compassion, ethics, empathy?
If that’s what is true...then God, might be replaced with one more O...Good...it’s good to do good, it good to live a life in relationship to all other life forms fairly, equitably. This will be the good...days.
Posted by joe maine on from 10/19 at 06:36 PMIt’s good to live a life in relationship to all other life forms fairly, equitably.
Right on, Joe..

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/20 at 08:22 AMGood morning Richie, joe, and Mickey..."fairly and equitably” implies justice. It seems to me that the quest for “justice” is the highest of all human pursuits.
I woke up this morn to a Congressional hearing about the Jena 6 and how the Justice Dept. screwed things up. One Congressman from Minneapolis (I forget his name) really did a good job during his questioning of the Justice Dept bureaucrats.Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/20 at 08:50 AMGood morning everyone...Today the Maine coast weather is overcast and warm. Fall colors are great, high tide presently...The man-made environment is corrupt.
Posted by joe maine on from 10/20 at 09:13 AMjoe...you are blessed. Anyone who can hear the crashing waves, smell the salt air, and see sunlight glimmer on the wing of a gull is blessed.

Posted by joe maine on from 10/20 at 10:02 AMA rainy Saturday morning in Eastern MA, but that’s good news. We need every droplet.
“Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire.” - J Hetfield.
Geoff Charles on WHJY in Providence had an excellent drive-time rant (5:05PM) yesterday, contrasting the allegedly benighted peoples of the Third World and the death race called Western Civ:
“One of the fire starters in the anti-immigration media had me blowing coffee out my nose and all over the morning paper when they referred to the 3rd World as a hell hole.
Belize is a hell hole? Jamaica ? Costa Rica? I didn’t know these were hell holes. Perhaps the lack of poured concrete freeways and ruined landscapes plowed flat and lifeless for condominium development makes these tropical paradises’ hell holes? Or is it the delicious fresh fruit and fish sold for small change in the open markets that makes these places an expensive resort for suffering?
Most of the people I’ve made friends with in the 3rd world are quite content with their uncluttered lives. They don’t have the same skyscraping inhuman urge to blow through life grabbing as much as they can like people do in the United States. And, oddly enough, either their diets or their way of life leave them much more medically fit to exist without dosing their emotional traffic tie-ups with costly pharmaceutical concoctions that leave so many Americans adrift in chemical comas. A guy I met in Negril gathers up used rum bottles, rinses them out, and fills them up with fresh squeezed orange or sour sap juice. He walks the 7 mile length of one of the world’s great lengths of pure sugar sand hawking the juice he totes in a shoulder bag. Covens of American tourists, stretched out in the sand like strips of pale fatted bacon, spend gobs of their recessive credit card dollars getting away to Jamaica so their nerves can be massaged by the intense Caribbean winter sun. The cost of such natural therapy can run into the thousands.
A bag of Blue Mountain grown sweet sativa can cost $200 American . That’s cheap considering the bag you receive from the Rasta man up on the cliffs is the size of the yard clean-up bags Americans used to get rid of their leaves in the Fall. So you tell me? 3rd World Hell Hole?
I’d trade being stuck in traffic 5 days a week, working under the whip of the 1% of the rich who have systematically looted the middle class , with the fragrant trade winds of the tropics and the simple, uncomplicated life that awaits. I’ll cook jerk chicken for tourists before I die the death of a wage slave in the United States. Check with the Devil next time and see what he has to say. You’ll find him smoking a Cuban cigar as he gazes at the sun setting on the far away rim of the Caribbean sea. Tell him the 3rd World is a hell hole. Once he stops laughing and ashes his cigar in the surf you’ll learn a lesson that’s missed by the corporate chorus boys back home who prefer concrete to contentment.”
The punch line is that HJY is a Clear Channel station.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 10/20 at 10:57 AMHi, Mickey.
Thanks, joe. Someday I will be take you up on that invite.
Zen...You say it very well. Most people have been brainwashed in this country to think that the whole rest of the world is inferior.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/20 at 05:17 PMRMJ, most AvAms I’ve encountered online suffer from “shouting at the mirror” syndrome - what does that mean for your “the whole rest of the world is inferior” theory?
England lost a disappointing Rugby final to South Africa. Given that it was a minor miracle we were even in the final, having beaten two paper-favourites in Australia and France, I shouldn’t be too disappointed, but it was a poor advert for rugby - a supposedly superior team scraping home without the slightest demonstration of their alleged powers. I’m curious Mickey, does the physicality of rugby appeal to you at all?
Posted by Mew on from clophill 10/20 at 07:06 PMMew: I know virtually nothing about rugby but it does seem like something that’d be fun to watch (and perhaps play).
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/20 at 10:49 PMGood morning Mickey, Mew, joe, richie, and all others.
Yep, Mew I do think that most AvAms think that the rest of the world is inferior - so inferior that we have the right to slaughter them without blinking an eye. Today the news is reporting that we just killed 49? more Iraqis. The news specifically said that the killed were “criminals” - no trial by jury - just a trial by innuendo. These innocent civilians were declared guilty by the Press. I beleive that these subtle inferences by the Press are far more damaging than Bush-speak. When Bush talks, everyone knows that he is probably lying, but too many here don’t notice when their thinking is molded by the media.capcha says “husband” --- been there, did that. Once was enough.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/21 at 08:40 AMOn second thought - if I found one with a chain saw and a snow blower, maybe I would reconsider.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/21 at 08:41 AMAbout the recent FDA ban on children’s cold meds - I knew that they were dangerous 40 years ago, but I did not have to bow down to pressure from the pharmaceutical companies like the FDA does.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/21 at 09:05 AMGood morning everyone...it’s another gorgeous day on the Maine Coast, 61 degrees, feels warmer.

Economics of Scale vs. the Scale of Economics:
Kirkpatrick SalePosted by joe maine on from 10/21 at 11:50 AMAnyone remember Rod Sterling and the Twilight Zone??? Very relevant for today and very relevant for Expendables. Today’s program is about the government declaring people “obsolete”. Rod’s quote about the government, “Logic is an enemy. Truth is a menace.”
